I can’t understand why they won’t do this yet there commercial partners have allowed the 15/60 second skip function.

I didn't get one of those... much appreciated

I thought "upgrading" to  Youview box would be an improvement but because of the inability to reorder channels it has been a step down instead from my normal TV. The sooner this is fixed the better.

Don't hold your breath - this glaring omission hasn't been implemented, despite the world and his wife complaining about it since the product was in pre-retail testing. Basically the YouView team have ignored this, and many other reasonable requests.

As an minor update, the next gen software that begins rolling out on 29/11/2016 has temporarily lost the channel hiding feature. Already hidden channels will stay hidden but if one unhides them all from the settings menu then you cannot hide them again. The feature to allow channel hiding is expected to be re-implemented for the next gen software in due course.

In the meantime, or as a complement to hiding channels in general, note the next gen software has parental settings which include hiding all the adult channels and categories, requiring a pin to access age rated content (PG+, 12+ or 15+ options), and an option to require a pin to be entered before one can access after the watershed recordings or content rated as guidance.

More general channel list management such as favourite channels lists, channel reordering, or at least promoting the HD versions of channels into the SD locations in the EPG still seem doubtful :(

No, you can now hide channels, in CurrentGen at least, and this feature is coming back to NextGen this year, we are told.

Though the sorting of channels into your own preferred sequence, and the establishment of Favourite Channels among the ones you haven't actually hidden are still proscribed items in the YouView pantheon.

What does Current and Next Gen mean? I have a DTR-T2000 and can hide channels.

Hi Bradavon - current gen is a short hand reference to the original YouView software that boxes have used since the 2012 launch. Next gen refers to the major rewrite YouView have done to produce a next generation of software. They have been working on this for some time, have been running confidential trails towards the end of last year, and as of late November it began to roll out to TalkTalk customers. BT say they will commence a roll out in the Spring and it is expected that other ISPs and retail boxes will get it then or a little later.

For some more details see You would know if you had the new software as it looks quite different. If your box was originally from BT then you can expect to get the update in the Spring, if it was bought retail then it could be around then or a little later :)

    Thanks Keith.

I've heard about that. Any idea if you can rewind live TV and record it in the new software?

That's the only thing that annoys me I could do on my Humax Freeview+ box. On Youview if you rewind and press record it'll only record from that point.

My Mum's TalkTalk box as of Christmas didn't have the next generation software. It's the one without the ability to record, just pause live TV.

Is this box also getting the update?

"rewind live TV and record it in the new software" - not happened yet, and is unlikely (unfortunately).
The smaller box will be getting the update.

Whilst the next gen software so far has a few small functional improvements (and a few backwards steps too that one expects to be sorted in due course), at present the consolidated list of improvements and feature requests remains as valid as ever (and updated with a few notes where next gen has an influence), so no recording from the live TV buffer as yet :(

As for the TalkTalk rollout, it began towards the end of November, and a few weeks ago there was mention of about 150,000 boxes now having it. The TalkTalk live box user base is I think on the order of 1.3m so there are plenty of people still to get it.

In particular YouView have taken an approach of 'no box left behind' and thus it should come to all connected boxes in due course. Overall for the average user I would suggest if you do not get it for a while then you will not be missing that much and might actually be missing some discomfort from the currently rough edges (e.g. no interface to manage hidden channels yet, bumpy journeys and UI for the recordings section) :)

1.3 million talk talk customers, although you could say 1 million of them are actually retail customers...

Maybe the 150,000 that have got the update are talk talks total subscribing customers...

Isn't the difference between TalkTalk TV customers and TalkTalk TV customers who pay for additional channels past those offered by TalkTalk.

I imagine the number of TalkTalk TV customers is measured by those who have a TalkTalk TV box connected to their service. Much the way that YouView measure their own overall customer base. Or BT presumably. Or PlusNet, hang on, now that would be interesting. The fact that a competitor wants to diss another and play silly buggers over this is not a surprise. Especially as that competitor has also been playing silly buggers with their own near-monopoly broadband service for many, many years. Sorry VM, thought I better apologise in advance.  ;)

Talk talk had the chance to reply but to say their response was 'non-descript' would be an under statement.

What agenda do you think Mediatique have?

Yes we don't know what BT's figures are but I would suggest getting bt sport would be a bigger reason to pay a subscription.

Maybe you need to work for talk talk redchiz, as given the opportunity to defend the statement at the court of arbitration knowing the facts they didn't.
Whereas you not knowing any facts jump straight to their defence and call liars...

Although they probably couldn't afford you :-)

As for broadband figures I think you will find ofcom produce those..

BT Sports numbers number in the 5m region. The majority of which don't subscribe to YouView. I thought in submission John Petter did the ****** on TalkTalk in no uncertain terms and he was well out of order. All information gained from having access to TalkTalks sports users base.
    Well out of order.

Which "Court of Arbitration" is this? Are you perhaps confusing it with the Competition Appeals Tribunal from which you sourced your quote, where BT were once again whingeing, unsuccessfully, about access to Sky Sports? You're right, they couldn't afford me. But you? Probably.  :)

EDIT: overlapped posts, I am sure you can see that my remarks were in response to scott, not VM.

Unfortunately when you are fighting your case in court you use every method at your disposal. If he was lying talk talk could prove it in a second.
This really is just an answer to something we have wondered about on here for a long time, namely how many isp customers should really be quoted in the retail YouView figures in all reality....

That's a very derogatory remark about me redchiz, how do you know my worth. I upped you in my comment, but maybe that says plenty in itself....
