Function to place bookmarks at positions within recordings

In the trial some people asked for the ability to be able to add bookmarks in to a recording to make it easy to return to/refind a given point within it. This might be because two people start watching a programme but one then leaves part way through (so a bookmark is left so it is easy for them to resume from that point) or because there is an interesting moment that you want to bookmark to make it easy to find again in the future etc.

With the software update on 30/10/2012 there is now an easy way to resume/start a recording at any given minute within the recording (find the recording in the list, press ok and then move the slider on the time bar to the position you wish to start or type in the minute number you wish to start at).

A natural extension of this resume time bar slider would be to create a function to allow bookmarks to be added to a recording which would then show on the time bar and you could use say the skip key to skip along the time bar to different bookmarks.

I had a cheapo DVD player that would allow you to do this, and it would 'remember' between different DVD's up to about 5 IIRC. The bookmark function showed a small image of the picture from the bookmark time too which was nice.

Would make a good addition to the feature set. Didn't Sky+ offer something similar or have I got this wrong? So long since I had Sky,

I don’t think it would be used a huge amount by most people, but I have that function on my current pvr, and when you need it it is really useful. As you say, Keith, a more automated extension of the 'jump to' function. I am always in favour of letting technology do the work - far better than having to write down "17 minutes" on a piece of paper, and then jumping to that point. Bookmark, and go to bookmark. KISS.

With a family who share the same tastes we use this all the time on our Topfield, besides you can do this on other Humax models, I'm surprised this isn't standard on YouView boxes.

Yep, used this feature a lot on my other PVRs. Particularly useful for watching the F1 as I can skip (and bookmark) the 'features' so I can watch the race and then return to them later :)

    cheers,

I have both a Humax Youview (T1010)  and a Humax Freesat (Foxsat T2 bought in 2010) box.

I use the older Freesat box as my main device because it has both bookmark and slow-mo functions ready for the times when they are useful.  It is frustrating that newer boxes lack these user-friendly features.

Even more frustratingly, the ‘jump to time’ feature mentioned by Keith above was lost in the move to NextGen, and has not so far returned.

I rather fear that its continued absence is because it is technically infeasible on NextGen, like the thumbnail video feed of the current channel in the EPG is, and so will never reappear.
