Hi all. We're looking into it but this is one of these problems that most people are not affected by and it's not possible to reproduce it at YouView HQ. That said, we know it's frustrating and we'll do our best to get to the bottom of it. Here's what we know now:

    1) We can't reproduce on the ISP lines we have here in the office. (mainly TalkTalk & BT).
    2) From the reports on the forum and elsewhere, it doesn't seem to be limited to a single ISP, and both BT, TalkTalk and Virgin have been mentioned. In at least one case, the ISP supplied router seems to be to blame (Virgin SuperHub)
    3) It's not obviously associated with being on the "wrong" ISP tarrif.
    4) Those affected don't seem to have the same problem with PC/web iPlayer.
    5) BBC iPlayer on YouView uses a different method of video playback from the other YouView apps and this could explain why it doesn't behave the same way.
    6) There's no YouView managed software involved, so any fixes will need to come from the BBC or from Humax and Huawei. We'll co-ordinate with their tech teams as needed.

We'll try to to build up a pattern of what's going on, so any specific reports would be useful, including:

date, time, programme you were trying to watch, when the buffering occurred (start, middle or end etc.), SD or HD, ISP, connection type (ADSL/Fibre), download and upload speed. router make and model, type of YouView box (Humax/BT or TalkTalk)

    thanks.

How does the switch communicate with your router? The 20m cable? The Powerline adaptors? WiFi?

I have a problem with iPlayer freezing up after several minutes of play. This is on a BT YouView box plugged directly into a BrightBox router on EE's superfast broadband. iPlayer seems to run fine on a Sony media player I have so I'm assuming the problem is with the Humax YouView box; very frustrating as other catch-up player seem fine on the YouView box.

Go to Settings, and find the tab that lets you update the players. Make sure you have the latest BBC Player, as they did a bit of work on this issue. Might help....

Agree - this is still an issue.  iPlayer through YouView still buffers regularly and fails with 'try again later'. iPlayer works perfectly for us on smart TV, but via the Youview box it keeps falling over. This needs resolving!

Ok, so I've paid my £35 and upgraded my Youview box to the latest 2014 (DTR-2100 version). And.... problem solved! For me at least. So far anyway - I was able to watch the complete hour long episode of Silk last night on iPlayer in HD with no problem whatsoever. This would have been impossible on my old Youview box. Which rather proves that this was a problem with the box, and not anything else.

The new box is certainly a step up on the old - much smaller, and much faster to boot up. Menu navigation is much more responsive too. And the annoying 'clicky' remote has been replaced with one that is not nearly as noisy :-)
The box is designed to match the BT Home Hub 5 in looks, and that included the blue light on the front - so when it is on (and recording too) there are two bright blue lights and a red light beaming out which can be a little distracting when watching TV. Unlike the Home Hub, there's no setting (that I've found) to set the light to 'dim'. I'm sure I'll get used to it though.

Time will tell as to whether this has permanently cured the problem.. I'll keep you posted.

I am regularly getting this issue with pretty much everything I watch on the iPlayer, now i've given up on it and use my Roku instead which works 100% of the time. I have a Humax retail version of the box and have had this issue constantly since YouView was first released.

Looking through this enormous thread of comments it appears lots of us are suffering the same issue.

Come on YouView - SORT THIS OUT please!!!!

Likewise - I've now given up using iPlayer on YouView as it just isn't reliable - regularly gives up whilst viewing - frustrating to say the least and should have been sorted long ago! - have invested in a Smart TV and it works perfectly, so definitely appears to be a YouView issue. If it wasn't for the extra channels on BT (which work brilliantly!!), I'd kick YouView into touch.........

I have this problem. It tends to happen around the middle of the program. It doesn't matter what program it is. There seems to be no correlation. Sometimes it will play the whole thing sometimes it won't.
I'm on TalkTalk Fibre with download speeds ~30MBPS and uploads of 1.5MBPS. I have the standard TalkTalk router (can't remember the model sorry) that came with my package, and it's a TalkTalk youview box.
