I was watching Chivalry & Betrayal: The Hundred Years War, BBC4 30.07.2013, 8:10am ISP: BT Speed: 75.45 dl; 16.13 ul Router: BT HH3 & Infinity modem Youview box: BT Humax
It has happened several times before, but I don't have the details. This one happened after about 15-20 mins into the program.
Happened 15 mins into watching Panorama. Had to quit iPlayer. Went back into iPlayer and moved program to 15 mins in and same thing happened 2 mins into watching. This happened several times, so I give up and watched the program with no problems on PSX3.
That might be a less than optimum suggestion. Look up 'YouView Maintenance Mode' with Google for a range of resetting options that are quite comprehensive but stop short of trashing all your recordings, a move of rather dubious value.
I have this buffering problem. Only on BBC 'on demand'. ITV and the others all OK. Whenever I select a BBC programme its ok for a minute or two then buffering starts and picture freezes. This continues for a minute or so then off we go but within 2/3 minutes more buffering and so on and so on. this occurs whenever I try to access BBC iplayer and has been like this at most times of the day over the last month or so.
Date: 20/07/2013 Time 21:30-22:30 Programme The Apprentice HD When occurred - many many times throughout the programme it buffered and stopped and had to b re-started. ISP: BT Connection Type Fibre (Infinitiy 2) Download/upoad speed : approx. 70/15 Router Make/model - BT Hub 3 + Infinity Modem. Youview box: BT/Humax.
Just as a follow up, although I have given this example this happens EVERY time I use iPlayer on the YouView platform - usually at least once in a 30 min programme. Every other player seems fine and I have not had this issue - its getting very frustrating to watch anything through iPlayer.
On reflection I have to say I can't see the point of reporting which programme/s this buffering happens on. It happens all the time. By all means collect info on ISP/hardware/line speed etc - but programme and time of day seem to make no difference.
ISP BT Infinity - connected via Powerline. Youview box from BT The BBC I Player has never worked for me since 'upgrading' to Youview from the old BTVision box. As most people report, it fails about 20 mins into a program and never restarts. My Panasonic TV and Xbox, connected via the same route work fine.
I just ran the BT line test and noticed something interesting: Directly connected to router: Downstream 34mbps, upstream 5.87mbps, latency 0ms Connected via Powerline: Downstream 22mbps, upstream 5.8mbps, latency 38.38ms. Could it be that the problem is caused by the latency which occurs when using the Powerline setup? Also I have just discovered that BTSport does not work either, error message is IPC6023. Perhaps the Youview software cannot handle the Latency.
may i recommend that you go into your router and set up the quality of service (qos) so that your youview box has the highest priority, some routers donot have this, but if you do try it, it has helped me, I have a 10meg connection and now tv was buffering like crazy every 20 seconds, yurned on qos and watched a film all the way through last night. I have also read somewhere about talk talk saying you need a iptv ready router, which i presume is a router if QOS

I think you'll find that the latency yo-yo's around anyway, but interesting that you're losing 12mbps of bandwidth over the powerline. I guess it would be worth attempting to connect the YouView box direct to the router to compare, but my guess is that it won't solve the problem.
Like you, I was working fine with my BT Vision box until 'upgrading' to YouView.
Peter Thompson, Interesting you say latency yo-yo's around. I have a Sam Knows box that constantly measures my download speed, upload speed, latency, packet loss etc and latency is normally very constant with the odd spike. Powerline adapters, however, cause a big hit on download speed and it varies like crazy. I have a new office in my garden, wi-fi was too hit and miss - I went for Pwerline but the mains electricity run was just too long (though not as distant as the manufacturers claim to be within range) and consequently I was getting at best very poor performance, at worst no connection at all. So I ran a network cable down the garden connected to a powerline in the house. Result - good performance but amazingly variable. There is a utility that shows the connection speed of all my powerlines (3) and they vary by as much as 50% from one day to another. But I doubt that was causing David Coldwell's problem. But where they can be avoided, avoid!
I got a reply from BT asking me to do a software reset of the Youview box. I followed their instructions for this and after only a few tests the situation has improved a little, I have been able to watch two own hour programmes without a problem, but Top Gear in HD failed after 37 minutes. However, this time I was able to restart it. BT Sport does not work at all. Every time I try it I get a 'IPC2023' message.
Hello all, we are also suffering from Iplayer cut outs. The strangest feature is that, once disconnected, it doesn' go back to the last point of viewing but I have to re-start the whole programme and manually find the last point of watching. It happens when watching CBeebies with my daughter which isn't great... beyond re-setting the box is there anything we can do??
In response to your input on this I'm getting the same issues. Got them all the way through an episode of the White Queen (Episode 7) in HD we watched last night - 5 August 2013. We didn't have any problems with freezing on Sunday and watched 2 hours which was fine but it happened watching on Saturday the week before.
As you've already highlighted the same episodes watching iPlayer on Desktops works fine and in HD. We've got an Apple TV and have used Netflix in HD for about 8 months plus with no problems so looks like it could be an issue with HD BBC Iplayer on the YouView boxes. It seemed to start halfway through the program and then every minute after that for about 10 minutes - then came back towards the end again in minute intervals of freezing. At one point it did even drop out saying that an error had occured. Very frustrating.
I'll post any further issues we get so you can collate information
date: 8/8/13 time: very roughly between 8-10pm programme:Irresistible (Film) when the buffering occurred: whenever we unpaused it after having paused it, also spontaneously 3 or 4 times throughout the film. Iplayer would not respond to Stop but after going Back it would fail to bring up the list of films and give a 104 error. Every time I would have to go one step further back to get the film listed again so I could re-select it and it would restart at the beginning and I would have to FF to where we had the issue IPlayer set to HD but think film was SD ISP: Virgin Media Connection type? (Fibre) download 30mbps and upload speed 2mbps. router make and model: Virgin SuperHub YouView box Humax
I bought a 15m RJ45 cable and bypassed the Powerline connection. No improvement so Powerline is not the problem. I went through a sequence of Resetting router to factory defaults etc. but it did not change anything. Just to be on the safe side, I have even connected router/modem and Youview box to different mains sockets. I sent all my results to BT and they have now agreed to send an engineer. Only snag is that it will cost £99 if the problem is anything of mine!
Hi all. We're looking into it but this is one of these problems that most people are not affected by and it's not possible to reproduce it at YouView HQ. That said, we know it's frustrating and we'll do our best to get to the bottom of it. Here's what we know now:
1) We can't reproduce on the ISP lines we have here in the office. (mainly TalkTalk & BT). 2) From the reports on the forum and elsewhere, it doesn't seem to be limited to a single ISP, and both BT, TalkTalk and Virgin have been mentioned. In at least one case, the ISP supplied router seems to be to blame (Virgin SuperHub) 3) It's not obviously associated with being on the "wrong" ISP tarrif. 4) Those affected don't seem to have the same problem with PC/web iPlayer. 5) BBC iPlayer on YouView uses a different method of video playback from the other YouView apps and this could explain why it doesn't behave the same way. 6) There's no YouView managed software involved, so any fixes will need to come from the BBC or from Humax and Huawei. We'll co-ordinate with their tech teams as needed.
We'll try to to build up a pattern of what's going on, so any specific reports would be useful, including:
date, time, programme you were trying to watch, when the buffering occurred (start, middle or end etc.), SD or HD, ISP, connection type (ADSL/Fibre), download and upload speed. router make and model, type of YouView box (Humax/BT or TalkTalk)
thanks.
Also PLAs? These seem to be getting implicated in some of the BT Sport issues, and I'm wondering now if the buffering here has them as a common factor.
I'd wager that the tablets and PCs that don't have these issues aren't working over those same PLAs.
And it might be interesting to see if a PC on a wired connection over those PLAs also started buffering.

Once again today bbc iplayer programme stops half way through with an error. Pretty much every programme I have tried to watch for a couple months on the BBC iplayer has done this. Itv doesn't do it. It's frustrating. I'm on plus net broadband with a trial/retail humax. About 15mbs download speed. This one was a cbbc programme at 8.30pm. It would be nice to have this issue fixed!

It stopped, buffered for a while, then failed with an error. Picture had been very poor all along; worse than SD. my wife called it 'VHS'. Resuming on iPad, it was, of course, perfect all the way through; no buffering at all, and much better picture quality.

As a counter example, we watched 'Under the Dome' on Demand 5 last night; not a hint of buffering, stunning picture quality, and nothing cut off (except a few limbs as the dome came down, and a cow that had something of a Damien Hirst moment).

I've been following this forum for some time and I've now become so annoyed by this problem that I've joined. This situation with iPlayer is ridiculous. Of all companies I would have expected BBC to have got this gripped. невероятный!
Is anyone taking ownership of this issue and getting it resolved? Seems to me youview should be doing this as its only on their platform that its failing.
Is there any sight or hope of a resolution? As its happening every time using iPlayer to myself and others on this thread I'm sure we can run diagnostics if needed.
As can be deduced from the many threads and comments on the Iplayer issue it has been around from when the boxes were first launched over a year ago. It has been pointed out that it is unique to Youview. It has been pointed out that it is a very fundamental faliing. The net result is nothing happens and noone takes ownership of the problem. Every time I am asked what I think of the box I say dont waste any money on it! No DLNA either yet.

I have 9 different iplayers on various devices. The only one that buffers and stumbles is the one on YouView.
We thought it was our slow broadband that was causing the problem but all the other iplayers are fine.
We are currently watching Antiques Roadshow which keeps buffering.
