Box freezes while powered off and will not come out of standby (high eco mode)

(Apologies if this is in some thread somewhere, search returned no results).

My box periodically freezes while in high eco mode standby. The remote and all of the buttons on the front of the unit are ignored but the orange light is still lit. The only way to 'boot' the box is to do a hard reset by switching it off and on again using the power switch at the back.

The problem has happened 3 out of the last 4 days and only began since the latest October software update was applied. My box us usually switched to standby between 23.00 and 19.00 while I'm at work.

I have a trial Humax DTRT-1000 box.
Manufacturer software: 8.4.20
Component software: 1.1.6
Platform config: 254

Anyone else having the same issue? It's really starting to annoy me and I am missing recordings because of it.

I've had something similar twice since receiving the 30/10/2012 update. On both occasions the box had been in high-eco standby mode but then commenced a scheduled recording. The box could then not be taken out of standby with the remote or buttons on the front. The first time I power cycled the box to restore normal function (but that resulted in a partial recording), the second time I left it until the scheduled recording was over by 10 minutes so the box should have been truly back in high-eco mode standby at which point it correctly powered up via the remote (taking the usual 103 seconds to come up from high-eco mode standby).

I've just been studying my recordings since this problem started. 2 have been part recorded probably because I power-cycled the box. Maybe if I left the box to finish them they would have continued ok as you found Keith. Trouble is I've no idea what is recording or even if the box is recording whilst it's on standby!

I wonder if this occurs when it is in low eco mode? I may have to test over the coming week and report back.

I'd be interested to know if YouView are aware of this issue.

I have the same problem. When powered off (on high Eco mode) overnight or even for a few hours, the box will freeze at the "nearly ready" stage of boot up

It started happening since the software update for me, too

Hi Clair - it sounds like your problem may be more like the one on this other topic

    http://community.youview.com/youview/...

where a box in high eco mode does start to come up out of standby but then appears to hang but will eventually boot, whereas the problem reported on this topic is I think about the box not responding to the remote or buttons on the front to even start coming out of standby.

So if you have not left your box for several minutes when it appears to hang it would be worth doing that to see what happens. If it turns out it does then boot it sounds like the other problem which will hopefully be fixed soon but can be mitigated if desired by switching to low eco mode.

Looks like it is - I've marked as I have the problem too, and hopefully it will be fixed in the next update, I'll go into low Eco mode too. Thanks :)

My freezing as originally described above has now transformed in to the double boot bug so I suspect they are part of the same problem.

I have the same issue as you Keith, can't get the box out of standby whilst a scheduled recording is running. Will have to wait for the recording to finish. I'll see if changing eco mode to low makes any difference.

    @ Max, Keith, Rob:

I believe my freezing in standby is also triggered when the box is recording in high-eco mode as this is the only time I've had this issue.

i too am experiencing hanging on boot from eco mode.. would really be nice if this just worked.. all these updates seems to make more issues than they solve..

    another +1 from me.

The youview box was on this morning but then not touched for 3 hours, so turned off and went into High Eco mode.

i tried to turn the box on at lunchtime and it didn't boot. The light on the front changed from orange to blue and it appeared to be booting, but after 4 minutes of waiting the front panel was blank and the TV was blank.

I tried the reset by holding the button on the front for 8 seconds and it tried to reboot, but again would not boot.

I power cycled the machine, using the button on the rear of the machine and everything booted fine. The machine has been working fine since.

    SW Version: 8.7.0

Exactly the same at lunchtime today as the day before.

I wonder if the problem is caused when the box goes to standby using the sleep timer rather than manually being put to sleep?

I didn't realise this problem had already been reported. I raised a new thread here:

Humax box doesn't want to come out of standby

These sort of problems shouldn't be happening with a system that is supposedly consumer-ready.

...and it is still happening. I lost another recording halfway through yesterday when the box wouldn't come out of standby for 20 minutes after pressing the on button on the remote and seeing the panel lightgo blue.

It rebooted itself back to the Humax screnn three times before eventually starting, by which time the recording that had been in progress ws cut short at the time I first pressed the on button.

    Useless!!!!!
