@Geraint Morris:
Useful for setting a record if away from house, but font is way to big as are the channel names. On my iPhone 4 I have to scroll sideways just to view a programme title.
@stuart621:
Well I think it's great and have no issues with font size, colours or anything else.
Series record and search will hopefully be useful future additions but for now it is brilliant.
@Roy Brown:
Also for the Record Request status for programmes to be shown on the EPG screen....
@stuart621:
Yes, along with the status of previously set up recordings.
@Joseph Bool:
Great, works well. Series record missing though?
@sarumbear:
...My only gripe is the way the timeline works. It cannot go beyond midnight. You have to select the next day from a menu and then scroll to the left to see the beginning of the day. To see a program starting 5 minutes passed midnight is a very laborious process.
Yes, this version 1 but who on their right mind thought of such a UI is beyond my human capabilities.
@Gareth Williams:
The Apple Remote app has a handy feature when used with the Apple TV, which would have been useful on the YouView app; it allows you to input text using your iOS device's keyboard. I'm hopeless with the mobile phone style text input on the remote, and certainly can't do it in the dark.
@Owen Smith:
Nice first start and I have successfully set a recording with it. I'd like to see the following improvements:
* Ability to set series link recordings.
* Show the sheduled recordings already on the YouView box. I'm in danger of overwriting a series link I already have with a one off recording from this App, or just wasting time wondering what I've set to record.
* iPad specific version (preferrably with iPad 3 retina support), because the iPhone sceen emulation looks really poor and a native iPad version could display so much more information.
@DA:
App works a treat. I have some feedback and suggestions:
* Please add continuous scrolling through midnight into the next day.
* When a new day is selected the guide should stay where it is scrolled to instead of going to the top.
* Increase definition/size of the dividing line between when programmes start and finish.
* Add series record.
* Add ability to change the text size (smaller).
* Add search.
* Add an icon to show which shows are due to be recorded (could be part of a wider schedule management section). This could also allow in-app clash management.
* Make API available to other sites such as tvguide.co.uk so you can set a remote record from there.
* If you have the iPlayer, ITV player or 4OD apps installed it would be good to be able to scroll backwards and watch a programme on demand in one of those apps right from the guide.
@par:
Great app could you add the ability to delete channels too from it (such as shopping channels etc for me)
@The Meek:
Piers, I am surprised that each “remote record” mobile device can only support one YV box. I have 3 HUMAX DTR-T1000GB boxes and can only control one per configure session – hardly “remote” for >1 YV box.
I thought BT Vision were planning “multi-room”. But this mobile UI functionality shall not support a “multi-room” YV service. Should I visit confused.com?... Why can’t the mobile UI user configure and select >1 YV box?
Series record does really need to be supported too. I also feel that an auto delete period function should be provided to help manage topical recordings that have a shelf life such as the news/politics shows/question time etc. (guess this goes for the box EPG too).
It should be noted (in all marketing media and mobile device setup dialogue box) that the use of mobile devices with the YV box such as “Remote Record” prevents the use of “High Eco” mode.
This makes the YV box less bedroom/quiet-room friendly.
I was away on business last week so have only just had a chance to review this feature (and pay attention to forum) – apologies if this comment has been discussed earlier.
Piers, Please review the HTML grid interface provided in the DigiGuide Windows product option (it includes a webserver too, http://is.gd/A2N4iL http://is.gd/2hvql4). This is very intuitive and works well on all devices that I have tried via the web browser. Some iOS users have attempted to justify a YV iOS app’ based solely on “better user experience”. Please take off the mobile device blinkers and review the DigiGuide web interface... they may also be able to provide YV a very good opportunity too.
Please do not waste further programming resources on proprietary platform app’s (that’s code for android), please develop a YV HTML user friendly UI as demonstrated by the above.
@gomez:
Am I right in thinking that you have to be sat in front of your Youview box to be able to pair it with a remote device? So if while away for Christmas I couldn't borrow a friend's iPhone and use that to set an ad hoc recording?
@soupyc:
Anywhere to leave feedback specifically for the app? Showing what is recording/clashes is a MUST for the next update of this app. Just showing 'Recording sent to YouView box' is no good when I have other recordings which I want to overwrite with a new one. Especially when the reason I am doing it from the mobile app is because I have no access to the box to cancel the other recordings.
I've added this as a second reference to item 26 in the consolidated list of improvements and feature requests
Either way, apps for all iPad models are the norm.
Self-centered?
Do you have some sort of literacy issue that prevents you understanding that
"perhaps to be politic once an Android version is released"
means after an Android version is released?
How is it self-centered to suggest something I would use is left until others also have access? I'd have thought that was the complete opposite to self-centered.
>>The new iPad retina display has a resolution of 2048x1536 whereas the earlier iPads have a resolution of 1024x768, i.e. the retina display is 4 times the resolution.
Isn't that twice the resolution? 2048x1536 / 2 = 1024x768.
But as I said above in response to the question about which iPad the app would be for, a single app will run - subject to any hardware limitations - on any iPad model so only one app version would be needed.
Not-so-nice-Martin on form I see :-)
The app error could be better managed than 'implying' it's an issue with the local device or network rather than being a server-side issue. Had me hunting for a network problem which wasn't there.
There needs to be some planner function built in to the app so at least you can check to see if recordings have actually gone through.
