Close button best avoided?

Box froze last night after I finished watching a recording (Utopia, C4, part of a series and therefore in a "folder" on the recordings list.)
I pressed the Close button while in the folder. The box exited to live broadcasting but froze.
As there was a recording scheduled to start (Chivalry and Betrayal, BBC4, also part of a series), I left the box in its frozen state until that programme was over, then power cycled it and it restarted normally.
The programme that was scheduled to record failed, as I expected, but also the other episode in that folder, which had been recorded several days ago, was also now marked "failed". Why did that happen, I wonder?
The box has come out of (low-eco) standby normally this morning.
