Editing posts on a mobile

I remember people saying the Edit button was not showing on posts they had made from their mobile. Used my new WM8 mobile to post here this evening and I noticed that the Edit button only showed when my finger hovered over where it should be. So tapped at that position and it took me into Edit mode. :)

Nice one. But how on earth do users use the other forum mechanics?

Bold, italics, graphics etc? Heres one word in italics - *bleep*.

And now the rest of what I say is in *bleep* italics too! Which I didn't input.

    You mean like this?

But use angle brackets < > instead of square brackets [ ].

I do. Use < >***< >. And it *still* puts the rest of my post in italics. I'm using Chrome. And thanks for the reply.

Page source reveals it's because you're missing out the forward stroke.

After the word italics, in your post above, you have open-angle-bracket i close-angle-bracket. You should have open-angle-bracket stroke i close-angle-bracket.

(scratching head) But gwatuk, you just did it.

Or am I missing a subtle bit of irony? :-)

In reply to gomez, aisha and gwatul - Thanks.

In reply to me - Doh!.

    I now get it. ****.

    Thanks all.

But they don't exactly make it easy, do they?

It's Get Satisfaction who don't make it easy. A normal forum would give you a button for things like italics, not to mention making it possible to quote the post you're replying to without having to laboriously do it all by hand.

The HTML tag for creating a link is the < a > tag, which stands for anchor. To use a link you also need to specify the web page that the link is pointing to. You can do this by putting the web page address in quote marks after the phrase "href=". After the opening tag you put the link text, and finally you close the whole thing with the closing tag. Putting it all together we get something like this:

    link

Asking for how to do it, whilst showing how to do it. Hence the smiley.

But if I were talking directly to gwatuk, I would have put that another way, lol.

But you already answered my question -- oh, did you think I was asking how to do the link thing? No, I was struggling to catch on to gwatuk's joke.

Maybe I should just shut up. :-)

Writing here, in Reply to This Topic, you might or might not have noticed the comment there in blue: (some HTML allowed), and even if you did, you might not have noticed that it's clickable. Or on an iPad, tappable, and possibly on Android too.

    Click/tap it. It's very illuminating.

As a general rule Aishas are highly intelligent creatures that have a natural gift for magical things.
