Hi Chris - no a factory reset does not take you back to an earlier version of the YouView software, it in general only reapplies/resets the latest version already downloaded to the box. Fundamentally the YouView train only moves in one direction, it may speed up or slow down but it never goes backwards
I might add it does though seem like the train dropped off the buffet car, and a few other elements essential for a long journey, whilst passing through a major station recently. Hopefully someone will find a way to reunite such carriages with the train in the near future further up the line ;-)
i find the new update a total con i now cant get discover and i miss the small screen when looking at the guide, i am also getting the bt logo coming up even though i bought my box and don't have bt tv. This is not the box i bought.
Shame because navigting to oldest recordings in my view is now horendous

I was really looking forward to this update. Only found it a bit disappointing. The EPG seem to be faster, but some features are missing. Like the small screen in the menu, Big time display on EPG when going forward and backward on EPG. The old way of displaying program where a short description of the program are show without pressing info button
Wish list
Able to go backward seamlessly when a program recording by schedule, without pop in to MyView
24 hours time format
Youtube
Disable search entries from Netflix and NowTV when account is not logged in
Font size (Not zoom)
Automatically switch between HD and SD channel when regional programming is not available on BBC Channels.
Update 27.46 came in without me saying yay/nay which seems a bit off since it's a major change. I miss the box upper left with the channel preview but my major gripe is reserved for the recordings list with those little confusing images and incomplete text. Can I *please* have a simple text list of my recordings. If I had the option I'd revert to the old software simply on this issue. But I don't have the option - see above for installation/imposition without permission. I do like the other features I've seen though - clearer settings options & much better contrast of text to background in listings spring to mind . One difficulty I'm having is that BT player doesn't seem to be working at all - simply "loading..." followed by a blank screen when it's selected. I have BT as ISP but I don't have a subscription to BT tv, which might be the problem. Please keep the updates coming!
Earlier in this item Visionman was quite adamant that "...the BT Player is a subscription service, so if you don't subscribe to BT TV, you can't access it..."
Here's a comment from another forum: "You don't have to have a BT TV subscription to access the BT Player. You have the option to rent/purchase On Demand content from the BT Player."
I have just registered so i can feed back my utter disappointment and dismay at this supposed improvement that has changed the way i use the box. Like others i would like the list view back!!! This alleged improvement is far from it and my wife and I are deeply annoyed at what has been done!!!
I don't mind *most* of this update, except the loss of the list view in recordings. This new icon based system is very confusing and difficult to read, especially for thise with 'challenged' eyesight.
Please can you add an option to see recordings in List View or let me 'downgrade' to the previous software? Urgently! Thank you in advance.
List view back please!!! I have just joined to find out what has happened...
Thanks very much for your response. It is good to know that YouView are reading the customer feedback and intend to take it on board.
It is not so good that we cannot reverse this unwanted software change, which is clearly what everyone wants. The most worrying part of your response, however, is the following:
"We believe the visual changes made in the new update to areas of the UI will make it easier to use for viewers going forward...."
You seem to be saying that the chorus of customer dissatisfaction is just wrong, and that the handful of people who work in your office have decided that the UI is now easier to use. With respect this is simply delusional - it reminds me of the Trump administration's "alternative facts". Please do not stick your head in the sand over this - listen to your customer base here, acknowledge that the UI has got worse, and use the next update to restore the features that made people like YouView the first place. The history of technology platforms tells us that it will not survive for long if you do not listen to your customers.
So i have registered just to find out what on earth has happened. Who in their right mind thinks the icon view is an improvement!! Please return the list view. Or better still give the user the option... Shocking..

Please stop posting comments here, there and everywhere. M Jarvis. After all, you do want people to read them. do you not? Not that thats your fault. Its a limitation of this forums software. At the bottom of the last page would make your comments more linear and continuous for all to follow.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.
Bit disappointed - The recordings screen with images takes far longer to navigate. For most programmes only a tiny part of the title shows up so it is hard to identify programmes if you have a large collection. With the previous version I liked that I could side click to move to the next screen. I'm also not sure what order recordings are arranged in.
Suggestions - settings option to choose list or thumbnail view - arrange by option for recordings (as in older boxes) to sort by date/title
Thank you!
Please return the list view and in future give the user a choice when to upgrade. This is a Shocking way to treat users.

Thats not going to happen in the short term foreseeable. What you've got now is it. The tiles are staying.

Like so many others here, I joined this forum specifically to express my dissatisfaction with this software update, and I think what everyone would like here is a little reassurance that something will be done to sort it out - especially the return of text lists for recordings, and sorting out of the horrible mess that the series records now are. And I'm not getting it - it just feels like we're being told tough, we've tested it, this is what you are getting....
I have joined as well to express my views as others have mentioned, can we have the list view back please.

Visionman do you work for You view or Humax? I have been directed to this forum to offer feedback. That is what I am doing.
Talking about order and ordering, if I don't want to lose the TV screen, I like to use the mini guide in this format -
Though in this format, when channel searching, up is down and down is up. Or you can just punch in the channel number and the mini guide will remain in the same format as above. Below is the standard format.
There is a youview logo on the bottom of the mini guide

I add my voice to the complaints. The latest update bricked my T1010! MyTV is hopeless and tediously slow. I cannot accept that the upgrade is irreversible. We have rights, consumer rights and this update has forced me to consider other options which will cost me more money. I say we write to the Which? It is totally unacceptable for Youview/Humax (although they are blaming Youview for the upgrade) to render our boxes obsolete. We should all be compensated.

@Martin - If the update 'bricked' your T1010 how do you know MyTV is hopeless, do you have another box that it hasn't bricked and what type is that?
@jimb - not sure that is right now but there are plenty of people complaining about having the BTTV logo even though they don't subscribe to BTTV so just need one of them to access the BT Player and see what options it gives.

Martin, what part do you think Humax played in this upgrade?
As I seem to have to keep saying, that's like blaming Dell, or whoever made your laptop, for any Windows update it might have gone through.

In my mind, the crucial difference between the Dell/Windows scenario and the Humax/YouView scenario is that with a PC you always have the option to change the software to something different. Dell sell you the hardware, and include a Windows installation, but the hardware isn't locked to the software.
If a Microsoft update causes a problem there's a reasonable chance that there'll be an option to remove the update. If not, as the owner of the hardware you have to option to restore a backup, perhaps reinstall the old operating system, or even install a completely different one. My old Windows laptop is still running Windows 7 because Microsoft allowed me to opt-out of the Windows 10 update. I was never allowed to opt-out of the YouView update.
In the case of my Humax, I own the hardware, I paid £200 for it (which feels like a completely unsubsidised price), but I have no rights with regards to the software it runs. No doubt I did agree to some legal mumbo-jumbo when I first set up my Humax, and gave YouView the right to do whatever they wanted, but I didn't realise I was supposed to consult a lawyer before using a freeview recorder. Anyway, even if I had been aware, I'd have probably assumed that because, in my opinion, YouView had the best UI on the market, they would continue to maintain their high standard and not make a mess of any future updates.
I'm struggling to think of a comparable situation, where the end-user buys a product but the manufacturer takes no responsibility for changes made to the embedded software.
Obviously the situation is slightly different for people who received their boxes as part of a deal with BT or TalkTalk. For them, like with Sky and Virgin, the software and hardware are both seen as part of the package.

Nick, I agree. I too bought my box outright and feel that Humax must take some responsibility for allowing Youview to saddle us with this disaster of an update. I have complained to them also.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if some tecchie wizard came up with an "update" we could download from somewhere like Filehippo to put things back how they were..............oh what a lovely dream!

Spot on. I bought the box because I liked the system. YouView then changed the system.
I didn't buy my discreet en-suite 5-star hotel room to find myself suddenly dumped in some garish backpacker hostel...

Thing is, you bought a YouView box from a retailer. (Or perhaps you bought it from Humax direct, in which case they are the 'retailer' in this situation).
But Humax the manufacturer make boxes to the YouView specification, which includes being tightly bound by what YouView do.
Think - is the Humax part of the equation any different in NextGen from CurrentGen? No it isn't.
So your beef is entirely with YouView.
Since they are unlikely to give you redress, however, who can you look to for redress?
Legally, your redress is against the retailer who sold you the box, or the credit card company, if you bought it with a credit card
In practice, manufacturers often step in when their products are faulty, but this isn't a case where the Humax product is faulty, so that isn't going to go anywhere.
But you could take the box back to the retailer, or chase your card provider maybe, and say "This isn't the box that I bought" any time in the first six years of ownership, and hope for a pro rata refund.
Even this is a bit unfair on the retailer or credit card company, but it is what they signed up for when going into retailing, or credit operations.
I think everyone is struggling to figure out what it was that YouView did (in the sense of a trespass against the person) in installing NextGen on users boxes, unasked for and without the option of refusal.
It is what is called a tort; but for redress, you would have to show that YouView owed you a duty of care, which they breached.
The breach, for everyone who hates NextGen and wants the CurrentGen UI back, is clear; the duty of care rather less so.
And you would be hard put to get the redress that you want, which is CurrentGen back, rather than a small sum of money for your trouble.
I think your best hope is that YouView fix the worst of the current issues, and you learn to tolerate the rest.
Despite YouView, out leading the pack, deliberately shooting themselves in the foot and now limping round the course, it will be a good while, if ever, before anyone overtakes them :-(

Er, Visionman, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with the title that Sanj gave to this thread, could it?

Can I also add my support for being able to have a list view of recordings and scheduled programmes. I would like to know who claims the thumbnail list is a good user interface. It is messy and extremely difficult to find the programme you want. The thumbnail images are too small to give an image that clearly shows the difference between many programmes and the titles are often obscured by the image whilst also frequently too short to read properly.

It's a wonderful world we live in with such different tastes and opinions. There are people on the BT forum adamant they will be leaving BT because they are not rolling out this update FAST enough to their box....
There are lots of people talking about the great fresh new look saying the old style (including lists) was outdated and they were feeling left behind against the like of SKY and Virgin until this recent update...
of course we all agree about the journeys within the recordings section :-)

It's a wonderful world we live in with such different tastes and opinions. There are people on the BT forum adamant they will be leaving BT because they are not rolling out this update FAST enough to their box....
There are lots of people talking about the great fresh new look saying the old style (including lists) was outdated and they were feeling left behind against the like of SKY and Virgin until this recent update...
of course we all agree about the journeys within the recordings section :-)
