There seems to be an issue here in that if tiles are implemented correctly then it can be easy to navigate. The issue for YouView is that it's implemented this 'update' very badly and omitted features that existed before and people liked such as 'hide channels and action panel'. If they say they can be put back OK then why omit them in the first place. Very poor implementation and testing.

    Fredy,
It obviously was NOT tested by USERS (who, after all are the customers!!)

Following your valuable feedback on MyTV there are a number of improvements that will be rolled out to your box shortly.

    These include;

    •    Easier navigation with a new layout of 12 equally sized, larger scale tiles
    •    See more of the programme title and details with the new larger tiles
    •    Start at the beginning of a series folder as we now land you on your first recorded episode
    •    And in addition, the main menu will now timeout after 30 seconds so you can get back to watching your favourite shows quicker

The phased rollout of the updates to MyTV start shortly. We will let you know as soon as possible.

Thank you again for your feedback.

@thebearhouse etc. I am surprised that your username has been allowed, it looks like advertising.

And NextGen was intensively trialled before release, please do not be so churlish as to suggest otherwise.

What a ridiculous comment, who do you imagine it was tested by?

It obviously was NOT USER-tested adequately or there would not be fixes to the "new" version coming so soon.
This is almost exactly what Microsoft experienced with Windows 8 - it was a disaster. The customers did not accept it, so they then rushed out 8.1, to ameliorate the issues.

"•    Start at the beginning of a series folder as we now land you on your first recorded episode"
So - the 'fix' will be for us to come back to the _first_ episode in our series record.  I guess that we might not want to delete that, ifwe  are intent on keeping the whole series.  I doubt that we will want to watch it again, either.  More likely, we will now have to scroll forwards through your recorded series looking for the next _unwatched_ episode.  Is that any better?
It will work for me, as I often don't start watching a series until there are a few weeks already recorded, and I _do_ generally delete them once watched, but not always.  I would have thought if it were to be changed, it should be changed to take you back to the episode you have just watched, like it used to . . .

OK, it is difficult to express this in the context of recent discussions about NDAs, but who do you imagine tested it other than users? And how is it obvious? Don't interpolate your own views and prejudices across an entire discussion.

Well at least something has actually been done, although the only improvement at such is to go to the first prog in a recorded series. Alleluliah. Still stuck with the awful tiles though eh? Is that the whole list or are there other things too Phil?

I much prefer the tiles to the old list. Easier to navigate by far.

Thanks Phil, these should make the interface a little better for all although not as good as a list based interface option for the many who would prefer that. Can you give us any idea of the planned timeframe between updates ?

You're not going to get lists back and YouView will never comment on their development timeline, it has been quite a big step for them to react and respond in the way they have in this instance.

I agree redchiz. I like the tiles, the large Hero tile made things seem a little out of place so equally sized tiles with more information sounds a good way forward.

People don't believe just because you don't like the tiles that you speak for everybody. Testing is very user defined, Sanj has offered you the chance to put your names forward. If you want a voice on what the updates should look like feel free to join and put YOUR opinion across.

@redchiz regarding topic titles. Just as much a mess as the YouView implementation. thebearhouse actually said adequately tested by the way.

@Fredy, not perfect, but this one clearly states "Forum Feedback on MyTV..."

giffgaff promoter said "It was NOT Beta trialed before release"  (sic) that is what I was referring to, sorry for not quoting previously to make it clear.

@Fredy - you could test things forever and some people would still find things they don't like. If you really think these things were 'missed' during testing you really are naïve. The same story happens everywhere, including the first gen of this UI, there were many things picked up by testers before release that were never implemented.

many like the tiles interface, many prefer the list interface, so a good solution would be the provide both.

@redchiz it is beginning to look like it was tested by trialists who as long as they had tiles then they wern't bothered about the rest. I personally am happy with tiles or lists but do not like the other facilities that were there before going missing. We have only been told 'soon'. lol.

No, the main menu of Search / Guide / Player & Apps / MyTV etc. with a row of contextual tiles below the headings - what you get when you press the blue YouView button on your remote normally. It appears by default when you turn the box on, but will now disappear sooner if you don't close it yourself with Back, Close or the YV button again.

redchiz, given the big selling point of NewGen was that it allowed quick updates, it would appear reasonable to ask likely timeframes between updates.  If they are not going to give us an idea then they can tell us that.
