Well as this is the thread Youview have pointed me too I'll give my feedback on 'next gen' as rolled out as 27.47.0 and 27.50.0 here
Summary: a big mistake in so many ways
Detail:
Good points:
The opening screen is good
The tiles when you then scroll over to My BT are good
Bad Points:
The Tiles are a silly way of presenting what is essentially a list of recordings as was available with the previous builds. There should be an option to present recordings as a list. That's what Sky does (yes even Sky Q, I've tried ). Tiles look good for static and visually distinguishable information but that's not what we have here. The tiles for one BBC programme looks very similar to that of another but different programme.
That you can no longer see the number of recordings in a series recording (other than the currently highlighted tile) makes it very difficult to determine what t sacrifice when the disk is getting full
The removal of functionality where you used to be able to see exactly where you were in a programme buffer (on paused TV) is very irritating. Yes there's a little purple bar but it tell you virtually nothing. We used to be able to see real numbers
None of the existing core flaws have been fixed. For example the compulsory power down (killing the programme in view buffer) is still there for no good reason, the BBC Text function still doesn't work, the catch up TV programme functionality is so lame compared to a Sky box it just isn't usable.
Unacceptable Points:
The inexplicable removal of the ability to input a 'start from time' in a long recording has seriously degraded the usability of the box.
The complete arrogance of using a already contracted customer base as a press ganged Beta test force for a build aimed at future gimmick levered sales may be technically legal but it's an appalling way to treat customers damaging their product to save the company doing proper research. It gives me no confidence in the brands involved and my You View Humax box has now been relegated to occasional last resort use.
All in all if the intent was to drive me away from BT and into the arms of Sky for TV and Broadband then well done YouView/Humax you've very nearly succeeded. Unless they fix this folly soon I will certainly NEVER ever spend money on any Humax product and will advise others to avoid their products like the plague. YouView/Humax clearly do not understand how users use PVRs and have no respect at all for existing customers who it seems can be used as pawns in their product development game.
Calm down. I don't have a generic problem with the board or posting. I have a very specific issue with this 'Visionman' person, and as there seems to be no way to PM people on here, it's unfortunately being broadcast on the forum.

What I find most egregious is that they've started rolling out this new ( ****) software 'downgrade' 4/5 months ago and they keep on rolling it out even in the face of all this disapproval and negative feedback. I never should have received this downgrade a few weeks ago.
A couple of weeks ago I did a search of the previous 30 days to find people who had said that they wanted a list version of MyTV rather than tiles. Since then I've added recent additions. The sizeable flow has reduced to more of a trickle, but they keep coming. I think they're mostly new contributors to the forum...

And I'd add that this forum would be a more pleasant place to visit if we tried not to attack each other on a personal level. And before someone else points it out - yes - on occasion - I have been guilty of it myself. As I said before, I believe we all want the same broad end result, but inevitably won't agree with everyone. Let's agree to disagree in a pleasant way, and respect everyone's right to expressing their own views.
Apart from which, personal attacks are against the forum guidelines. Anyone who believes they are subject to such treatment can report the offending post(s) - a suitable course of action.

'Old style' sky hd box .not sky Q. Has lists . My recordings just work. No premium channels. Happy. Back room got old box of eBay old software of youview. Disconnected from internet so assume no tiles will appear.

I understand your anger, Scott, but I notice you are a fairly recent arrival on the forum. Welcome. Some of us have been here for a few years, and, truth be told, at times have felt much the same. However, I may just be an optimist at heart, but I do see signs that things may change. For all the frustrating ill-thought-out design faults of the UI, the YouView box functionality is, on the whole, excellent IMHO. That it could be better I have no doubt. For that to happen, the YouView team need to pay attention to the strong user requests/complaints on this forum. As someone with a background in computing I am aware that making 2 lots of code changes at the same time is not a sensible thing to do. A major rollout is taking place, so I don't expect an immediate response to the many feature requests on this forum, and am prepared to bide my time until a reasonable period has passed for new features/changes to arrive. THEN - if it is obvious that the team are still not making reasonable changes I may seek alternatives. However, just at the moment, the box does what I want (admittedly not in the way I'd like). Apart from which, I am not convinced at the moment that there is a box out there that would provide me with everything I'd like to see.

Cool. No use to anyone who doesn't have a satellite dish of course and/or doesn't subscribe to Sky. And using an old disconnected YouView box doesn't quite count as voting with your feet, does it? :-)

I agree with that cw. My feeling is that there are quite a few people here who enjoy a good discussion/argument. The problem at the moment is that there's not much for them to get their teeth into. And I don't think this is going to change much until the next significant update (whenever that may be).

fair point about the 2nd box - but i was a BT TV customer so had Youview via them - BT knew why I was leaving. I know Sky is not perfect but 12 months from now i can see if Youview has listened to its user s.

Visionman, you just need a basic Sky subscription to record, not necessarily "premium" channels. But the point is you do need to pay in order to use their box as a PVR.

Oh yes, thanks for the memory jog, chiz. £10.50 a month the last time I looked, which was some years ago. Total £126 a year. Not ideal and if I wanted to leave that wouldn't be an option for me. I'd rather just go out and buy a no name supermarket recorder (which might come with lists) such as a Vestel. Still, each to their own.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

That's 117.
Apart from which, personal attacks are against the forum guidelines. Anyone who believes they are subject to such treatment can report the offending post(s) - a suitable course of action.
Back room got old box of eBay old software of youview. Disconnected from internet so assume no tiles will appear.
EDIT: Oops, bumped along, I was talking to Scott for the avoidance of doubt.
My feeling is that there are quite a few people here who enjoy a good discussion/argument. The problem at the moment is that there's not much for them to get their teeth into.
And I don't think this is going to change much until the next significant update (whenever that may be).
Would you like to explain yourself?

Brilliant.
Perish the thought that one would name names on here!!
