As disappointing as I said it'd be.
I never said it's a wonder fix I said the improvements are a excellent start to improving the already fantastic next generation software.

Ceg should be no surprise to you I described next gen as fantastic you know how much I like next gen

I'm afraid I'm not at all impressed with the update. The inclusion of pictures makes the "My TV" recordings and schedule harder to read than the previous text based model and in my opinion adds nothing to the layout at all. After watching a recorded program (one that is part of a group of recordings) I press stop but I no longer get the option to delete, I have to go back into the group and scroll back to the program just watched in order to delete it. As you press stop you are immediately thrown back to the most recent program in the group which I fear may mean the wrong item could be deleted. As far as I can tell the option to record a program or edit the recording from the info screen has also been removed, I found that function very useful as I use a none standard one for all remote.
The only good thing I've found so far is the extension to the guide now being 14 days instead of 7 but I'm afraid with what I consider to be the drawbacks this update gets an overall thumbs down I'm afraid.
What have they done to my youview box!!! Returned from holiday to find my box has been updated. I always thought updates were meant to improve systems but in this case not. I hate the new recordings layout, I hate how, when you've watched a recording, you have to go back in to the recordings to delete it. Nearly deleted the wrong episode more than once. Also my remote doesn't seem as sensitive. I've yet to try some of the other features but I'm definitely not impressed and reading these comments don't think I'm alone

No, you are not alone (he says quickly, before our lone resident rebutter arrives to post that it's 'Brilliant!').
YouView have taken the brave decision to rewrite the software from the ground up on the more modern, and now mainstream, HTML 5 software platform.
And they have chosen to release NextGen, as it is called, to everybody, willing or not, at the stage in the conversion they have reached.
It is not complete yet; they have replaced the lists of old with tiles - little thumbnail pictures - for the more modern look that much of YouView's competition has espoused, and they have made some pretty bizarre decisions about how the UI (User Interface) should work, based apparently on focus group feedback. Including what you now have to do to to delete a recording.
It should go much faster now on all but the slowest of internet connections (what speeed do you get?), but it should not have affected how your remote works; this may be coincidental, based on your batteries running down, or your box may benefit from a soft reset (a lot seem to need this after the update).
But (assuming you are posting under the release you are actually on, 27.47.0) wait and see the better tiles presentation in 27.50.0 when you get it.
YouView will be fixing a lot of the things currently wrong with NextGen over the coming months, but the much wished-for return of Lists (at least as an option on Recordings and Scheduled) has not (yet?) been promised.
Though I do think YouView owe its customers that, at least, even if they weren't planning it, as an olive branch after this premature release of NextGen.

I suspect that the comment about the remote might be a subjective thing I've noticed. When going into my recordings you get into mytv, which is already showing the recordings as tiles. But at that stage you're still in the choice for recordings or scheduled recordings, and it isn't obvious that you need to press ok yet again before you're actually 'in' the tiles. I could be wrong but even down arrow doesn't seem to work there for actually moving onto the tiles. I find it always throws me because there's no visual clue that although I can see the tiles I can't do anything yet till I've pressed ok. It gives the impression that the remote isn't working. Could be other places like that in the UI where there are no visual clues what you have to press next.
By the way these comments apply equally to the 27.50 update, which is exactly the same in this respect.
I agree. Got my box updated this morning. The new recordings page is horrible to read and I can't believe there is no option to switch back to a list view. I also don't like the vignette effect when seeking through content as it makes it harder to find an exact point when watching dark content. Also, as others have mentioned, as soon you finish watching a program, it takes right back out to the recordings screen. I then need to go back into the series folder to select the just watched program so I can delete it. The user experience with this update has gone downhill in my opinion.

To be exact, series recordings are still in the same order they were in before. What has changed is that the landing point when you go into a series is now the oldest recording, not the newest as it was before 27.50.0
There are a couple of other changes in 27.50.0, notably an improvement to the presentation of tiles in Recordings and Schedules.
But it is more of a "Hey, we're listening, and here's something quick* to demonstrate that" than the more considered and fuller rejig we are all waiting for - an hors d'oeuvre, rather than the main course.
*Well, I hope it was quick. If this is what YouView have been working on for the last three months, we are all doomed :-)

Roy (aka Black Knight!).... remind me how I check to see which s/w version I have pls? I've just come back from a break to find the BIG tile now seems to have disappeared :-), or is it just me? Cosmetic change and there was no reason for it before but perhaps someone has listened to us and it was a quick fix!?..or is that me getting way too excited!!!
Watched a bit of catchup at lunchtime and as you said, found the landing point in a series is the oldest, but there was no way of knowing that apart from attempting to watch and hoping I was getting them in the right order and not launching the latest first thereby ruining the 'story'!!!! Oh well, all this is keeping the ol' grey matter functioning! ;-)

I will leave your chosen Black Knight to answer your specific question.
But you have used the word "catchup" where, I think, you mean recordings? So please don't scramble our brains any further by mixing up terminology!

I will leave your chosen Black Knight to answer your specific question. But from what you have described you are on 27.50.0, that has indeed shrunk the big tile and changed the landing point for recordings from newest to oldest.

Black Knight is what Ceg christened Daniel for his indomitable championing of NextGen in the face of the storm of criticism on here, and indeed, the objective state of the software; it's not me.

I agree I would like the list view back. The tiles are so time consuming, and as others have said, when you finish an episode in a run of several, the screen returns to MY VIEW tiles, not to the specific episode. So in order to delete one recording, I have to go back into the tile, scroll through episodes, select and then delete. Very annoying. Also I don't always watch things I've recorded in chronological order, and now have to scroll through many tiles! The list view - please give us the option of having it back!

To be honest I'm not fussed about list view as long as the interface works. The fact is it just doesn't. It is so clunky that we have completely stopped using our YouView box completely and will be returning it at the end of our contract.
