"The second bug is now that as a BT customer I only have the standard definition subscription, if I search for a program it puts the HD versions I am not subscribed to first...."
I didn't know there was such a thing as an SD-only subscription. Would anyone with BT TV care to comment?
I'm on the BT TV entertainment max package and have been for over 2 years now. Its a similar package to the BT TV total entertainment package and includes the HD extra add on as well as the kids channels. Entertainment max is only for existing BT TV customers that was already on a lower TV package. All BT TV packages that are not total entertainment or entertainment max you have to add the HD extra bolt on and kids bolt on at an extra cost. 80% of my TV viewing now tends to be HD. I have also been using Netflix just before BT started offering it and share the monthly £7.49 fee with my sister. It was my sisters idea to get Netflix and we both use Netflix a lot. My sister don't have BT TV but she dose have a T2000 1tb Youview box that I got her for her Christmas last year. I also let her use the BT TV app on her IPad mini 2 using my account.
Hey! I've just noticed the episode picture tiles are all different on most of the series provided by the BBC (All Round to Mrs Browns, Doctor Who, etc). I also notice the BBC1 HD screened film Guardians of the Galaxy just has the BBC logo on it, so I guess they didn't have the rights to display a picture. Much better, but I take it these pictures are provided by the broadcaster, which could be and probably is problematic where older series are concerned, such as Fraser or Friends.
Well you would think that, in the absence of a thumbnail, it would attempt to derive one from the initial frames of the recording itself. I'm sure it wouldn't get it right every time, but it would be better than nothing. As it is I have the lousy tile interface where 80% of the tiles are blank.

Interesting to see you are ken to get tiles with pictures on. Most people around here would love the blank tiles (the pictures are distracting at best and offer no extra information to that of the (heavily truncated to 4 words) title of the program in text.... or even the complete removal of them altogether.
More feedback of problems for youview (and I would put money on that no one has reported this yet):
1, I had recorded "The Graham Norton Shows" on BBC1 last week. Tonight I came to play it back. In MyTV, the 'tile' had the correct still image of the program and I began watching it. After some minutes I stopped playback and had a browse around the system. Then I came back to resume watching the program. This is now how the tile of The Graham Norton Show (BBC1) now appears in my recordings:
It now has the TINYPOP/KIX App avatar (as found in the players/apps menu)!
2, Oh, and the Players/Apps: this is how the Players/Apps appear in the selection bar:
Note that the "All 4" app (3rd one in) shows up as The Graham Norton Show! (And yes, if I select it it does load up the All 4 app).
3, Also (for the next problem) note that Demand 5 does show correctly in the above picture (4th along). Now look at how it appears if I go in to the detailed expanded menu of the Apps:
Here you see that the "All 4" app DOES show correctly (and not as "The Graham Norton Show" as it does in the selection bar), but now Demand 5 has lost its avatar (as well as S4C - both of which displayed correctly on the Player/Apps selection bar).
I have a BT T2200 on a TalkTalk line with 27.47 exhibiting unusual behaviour which I was about to report on the BT 27.47 thread, but the screenshots from Grunders would suggest this symptom is still around with 27.50...
I'm of the understanding that TalkTalk's "player" is called "More TV" (equivalent to the "BT Player").
So they both have the same position on the mini-guide main menu - between "Players & Apps" and "Settings" (or between "MyTV" and "Settings", if your box is a recorder.)
But when selecting the "Players & Apps" option, if you're with BT you get the BT TV Player, but if you're with TalkTalk, their player isn't listed.
Here's a screenshot of the CEO of YouView with his head in his hands just after seeing what programme details have been put on the banner when pausing MotD.
This isn't a massive problem, obviously (a quick back out of the recording and into it again rectified the data), but it IS yet another bug which is more evidence in favour that this NextGen has not had any thorough testing.

If you think that, then you should have seen it before it was thoroughly tested :-)
But no matter how good the testing, there will always be something that slips through - the above is probably an 'off by 1' or similar - and you will need to amass a fair collection of bugs before you can dispute 'thoroughly'.
You can say what you like about the design though :-)

Hi Grunders - to add to your point about truncated titles on the tiles, the update in 27.50.0 changes the truncation point to about 20 characters whereas before that it was about 15, and in old gen it was about 35.
I posted more details about title truncation and some analysis of a days worth of TV listings for channels 1-5 on the main MyTV feedback thread. As I've noted there there are various things YouView could do to improve matters including a simple solution of line wrapping the title over 2 lines if required which would restore space for titles as supported in old gen. YouView could of course also easily offer an option that turned off the tile images to give people a grid based text view as a step towards the simpler lists requests.
Whilst I think it is important that they work to improve the primary (and only at the moment) layout of tiles to make it as slick and useful as it should be, I would be even happier if YouView would acknowledge that they have set high standards in accessibility features and that to offer a list view would seem to add to that approach based on a number of people's feedback (or if that is not actually a reasonable view then that they comment on research and engagement with RNIB and others they have worked with in the past which indicates how further enhancements to a common tiled approach should be then seen as accessible enough).
Twice now in the passed 3 weeks or so I have had to reset up the IPTV channels I get as part of my BT TV entertanment max package on the G4 box. Its anoying when this happens. It happened this morning after I used the BT player. Never used to do this. Is there a big in the software.
New interface is terrible. Give us more options in "Settings / Accessibility & Language / Appearance", including one to revert to lists with no pictures.

Although the 20 character limit is still too short they dont apply it to the quick bar:
Eg,
It makes the point of the quick select bar even more useless (ignoring the space it takes up on the screen and the 'in your face', occasionally random images, more 'remote control work' and unfriendly to visually impaired - all of which only serves to strengthen my call for its complete removal).
Hear hear! (for your statement aboiut the RNIB engagement). I have family members that are visually impared and coped fine with straight high contrast 'text on plain blackground' writing. Now the 'in your face' images just make things extremely difficult for them.

Good point about the quick bar tiles still being the original size and hence limited to about 15 characters. I not found the quick bar to be of any great use to me so never use it. I do though have a harmony remote so have a quick single button press to get to the full MyTV recordings list ;-)
Yes I do but the older BT T1000 I no longer use for BT TV I just use that box as a Freeview PVR and for the free catch up players. It's the G4 box that I use for BT TV.
Having just had the update, I was immediately disappointed for 5 reasons and wish I hadnt had it:
1, when calling on a recording for playback we can no longer enter the user choice of playback begin time (ie, tap in 10:00 to start playback after 10 minutes in to the program). Now it seems to be either from the start of the program or wherever you left off watching. Terrible. This is highly important to be brought back. Imagine a recording that is 3 hours long (like a film) and you stop at 2 hours. When you resume the next day you want to start from 1 hour in again to remind you where you had seen up to or want to show a scene to your partner at a specific point you noted. Now you cant without the ball-ache of laborious rewinding/fastforwarding.
2, The GUIDE which shows the *popular* programs on show now for quick select is typically showing the SD versions (channel 1, 2, 3, 4 etc). I never watch SD channels (big screen, fuzzy pictures with SD) so they are pointless and take up space. Need the choice to remove the feature or tailor it to show only HD versions of the channels.
3, On the old software, during INFO of a program (eg channel 1) would show similar to "Available on HD/Watch on HD" where you can effectively go to the HD equivalent channel. Now it doesnt show this.
4, The 'background program image', although can be turned off if a distraction, is no substitute for the 'mini preview' window that used to show in the corner whilst browsing the guide. Now we have completely lost the ability to keep an eye on the current program whilst taking time to review our guide and MyTV options.
5, The program 'splash screen' image of the recorded programs are hiding the full program titles. Titles used to be seen in full in the old text based system but this flash version concentrate more on distracting image to the detriment of clear visible program title information (where it is longer than, say, 4 words). Example, it would now show "The Graham Norton S" instead of "The Graham Norton Show". Or "New Celebrity Juice:.." instead of "New Celebrity Juice Xmas Show" (which is a very different show to the normal one). This is VERY bad. You would need to start to watch the program before being able to determine which it is (or press INFO). Why should we have to do this?! (A clear sign of style over substance).
I wished I hadnt done the update. It was a backwards step in favour of using program imagery and removed some key useful features.
I totally agree about the pandering to the illiterate in the way recordings are now shown and not listed. It is especially difficult on a small screen. The pictures used are not necessarily representative of the show recorded. how do bt expect you to recognse a picture from a show you have recorded You patently haven't watched it so the pictures are meaningless. Give us the option to have a written listing without the silly pictures.

I should point out that I'm not particularly keen to get tiles with pictures on, and I agree that they're an unnecessary distraction. But even without them the layout and truncated text are significantly harder to scan than a simple list.

Hi Ad, I like the tiles and I do not regard myself as illiterate. So if you have any other points to make then do try to make them without being offensive to others.
Darren do you have more than one Youview box connected ?
Just of the phone to BT after on phone over 30mins and after going though all the settings on box and a rest, channels are still not working 100%. I can grt them to work but if I put box on standby and left it for 5mins or so then turn box back on I get the same ipc 6017 message and then have to reset up my channels. Guy said he would have to past it to BT tech team and get an engenier to have a loot at it. They coming Friday morning and will look at the BT green cabinet two streets away before they come to house. Think my sister is day off work on Friday so will have to ask her if she can come round in the morning for the engenier as I will be a work part of the day. Glad its in morning as that will give my sister the rest of the day to herself.

Hi redchiz
I see the options for Series tile handling, in ascending order of attractiveness, as:-
Land on last tile, no option to cycle round Land on first tile, no option to cycle round Land on Last Watched/Part Watched/First Unwatched, no option to cycle round. Land on Last Watched/Part Watched/First Unwatched, and the Skip << and >> buttons take you to First and Last recordings respectively.
We have reached option 2, which as you have noted does not suit everybody, but probably suits more people than Option 1.
When YouView have implemented option 4, all that will be left to consider is why, if a grid is so good for Recordings and Scheduled, it has not been employed for Series, when it would make any more arcane selection options than the above easier to carry out.

Hi Roy,
Not sure why you aimed this at me, rather than generally?
The difference within a series is that each episode has it's own information bar automatically displayed beneath. I will leave you to tell us whether (you think) that is a good thing, or not. :-)

Have you tried a soft reset, or an MM 2 or 4 reset, as much discussed in various threads?
These boxes don't always seem to come back 'clean' from the update :-(
