Totally agree with Adam. For goodness sake when will people stop playing with something that isn't broken. A list view is always more efficient and easier to read than blocks that take so much time to scroll sideways through. The new pictorial blocks for MyView is a massive retrograde step. Bring back the old list and fast scroll view we were all happy with!!

Im also still having minor problems watching my recordings.

A mod over on the BT forums did contact be this afternoon and passed my problem over to the BT TV tec team and they have sort of fixed it but I still seem to only have 90% service.

Has anyone experienced this before? Constantly overlaid and shaking cursor in the centre of the screen.

Generally agree with everyone else's criticisms over this ballsed-up update! Namely:
    1. Slow performance
    2. No choice to ignore 'update'
    3. Less informative UI (images instead of text)
    4. Removed functionality; numerous but mostly the progress bar during paused live TV and top-right corner TV in EPG
    5. Considerably more difficult housekeeping, ability to delete recordings after viewing.

That cursor is normally something to do with your tv nothing to do with YouView. What tv make do you have

    Hi both

I think this is the 'teardrop' from the YouView box which says that you have, or you had, something in the USB socket, like a USB stick, an external keyboard, or even just a mobile phone on charge.

Could this be the case, degenatron?

If so, removing the item and restarting the box should get rid of the teardrop.

Re your list, slow performance should not be the case, though the rest of your list is how things now are.

So make that restart a soft reboot; while not recording nor about to, touch the On/Standby button/ring on the fascia of the box for just over eight seconds, until it soft reboots.

Then please let us know if the teardrop is gone, or at least that you know what it is now if you need to be using the USB port for something, and if the slowness has gone or not.

Laughable, isn't it.  *Professional* mainstream technology providers.

    Not.

Can you imagine Sky releasing such stuff and/or leaving it so long.  Let's think about this update:  Came out early part of the year.  Lets assume they had 4 months or so of 'coding' it.  That puts us back to about September time.  AH! NOW I understand why it is like this.  It's the work of school leavers and their first job!  It certainly appears the same standard of it.

LOL.  Good one, Roy.  (Perhaps YouView could hire some of these hackers to do their programming for them, at least it will have been more robust and worked as intended and without flaws - equally appalling as the Cryptolock virus and something we dont want to see, yes, but at least as it would be as they intended.)

Roy, you keep mentioning that there should be no drop in performance and the UI should actually be faster in some cases but multiple people are still posting this as an issue. I have rebooted the box but the UI 'lag' still remains - from scrolling through recordings to a small delay in programs starting after hitting play. On the scrolling front, it appears to me like a drop in frame-rate when rendering the tiles. This is definitely an issue to me, granted not a deal breaker by any stretch.

    Hi Andy

The HTML 5 solution of NextGen should be putting a much lighter load on the boxes than the Flash solution of CurrentGen did.

And this has been my experience both on my T1000, the original Humax box, and on my T2000, the current Retail Humax box.

There are some tweaks - things can glide into place on the newer and faster boxes, while they snap into place on the earlier ones. And this has all been carefully calibrated not to cause hesitations, according to the processing power of the various boxes.

But both boxes sprint where they used to just run.

I did think that fetching tile images from the cloud might be a larger internet load than lists, so people with really slow internet might notice this, but they are cached anyway, so this would only be a one-time thing.

However, as regards resets, there have been a number of reports of boxes running slow, or behaving oddly, after the update, when the reported behaviours are from nothing that is actually in the update.

Which makes a change from most complaints reported which are about things that indeed are in, or are missing from, the update :-)

But how shall we define slow? The last person who claimed his box was slow, and gave a quantitive figure, said it was taking as much as half a second to go from tile to tile.

    I said I couldn't even click that fast :-(

Then I set a benchmark - position focus on first recording, hold down right arrow for 10 seconds, where do you get to?

On my T1000, I was just traversing row 1 of page 3, i .e. 27 tiles traversed with two page refreshes thrown in.

I don't know what the complainant could score, as he was a DBP, and never came back :-(

But if you can kindly try it, let us know the results, and on which YouView box, then we can see where we are.

Okay, my biggest issue with this update is definitely the recording page.
I have a series recording with 45 episodes in the folder for my two toddlers. When you go into the series folder, you only get 5 episodes displayed and there is no way to jump forward a page at a time. When you go into this folder, you are always placed on the first entry regardless of where you were previously. If you want to jump to the end of the list, you can't even tap left to jump to the end, you can have to tap right individually, in this case 44 times to get to the end. Crazy!
Now, what happens if I have done this and finished watching the episode and decide I want to delete it? When the recording stops and you dismiss the notification, it takes you back outside the series folder. I now need to go back into it and tap right 44 times again to get back to that episode so I can delete it!
I love the YouView box but this latest update is beyond frustrating!

You have succinctly described my biggest problem with the new ui - I've been struggling to put it into words!

Why yes, I can actually. And one only has to read the Sky Q forums to see why.
Sky Q is now just over 1 year old and many of the faults prevalent at launch are still prevalent today. Saying Sky Q is a full fat Premium service thats pretty poor imo.

This is made worse by the fact that after scrolling through numerous episodes of Peppa Pig pressing the back button takes you back to TV then you have to work yourself back to the guide and do the whole thing again! Why can't the back button take you back to the recordings list where you left them? Also annoying that new episodes are at the end not the beginning.

Hey hannibal hern, be assured that much of your angst has already been expressed and, hopefully, noted.

Landing on the newest episode was the way it went with NextGen at first, but this was so roundly dissed in much feedback that it has been changed. So there you go, to twist an old phrase it seems that you can't please any of the people any of the time.

Without meaning to be funny though, do most viewers of Peppa Pig care in which order their episodes come?

I did read:  You implied that the young watchers of pepper pig dont care what order they watch.  Im telling you that if they care about whether they have already watched an episode, then they can (and do) also care in what order they watch them. And, of course, the scenario by complaint that 'Hannibal' painted using the Peppa Pig as an example doesnt just apply to Peppa Pig and also affects ALL OTHER series records of any program irrespecive of who the usual demographic is.  And for you to dismiss the care of these Peppa Pig viewers just because they are young, or even rubbish the suggestion of 'hannibal' that there should be such care, is wrong.  But then, as its only your opinion and you are not a YouView employee I guess WE should ignore your opinion just like you should have ignored others (instead of replying because you dont agree).

But then its not the first time you have been told about doing this.  Is it.

I didn't imply any such thing, you inferred it. And you have dragged a minor remark into altogether another argument. Which is often regarded by a particular word on forums, but I am not allowed to say, save that it sounds like grolling.

But it was nice to see them stated so objectively and temperately, something that has not always been the case here.

Sorry about the tpyo from my auto-correct. It has an axe thing :-)
