For those of us who might have thought that the Alexa stuff had been put on the back burner, you might be encouraged by a comment in another thread:

(this is for the upcoming voice control to be able to work)
https://community.youview.com/youview/topics/-technical-documentation-for-xmpp-interface?topic-reply...Hi is there any news on when it will be available ?

My friends got a Samsung TV with a voice remote control . And last night I paired it up with the youview box which they had . And it works brilliantly . She is blind so she is now finding it very useful because she can work the box .

I'm visually impaired so I've had to learn how to use the remote control I'm not using the talk talk box , i've got my own humax retail box because the remote control is easier to use .

YouView never preannounce dates. Too many things that could go wrong.

It's quite a paradigm shift for them even to announce what they are working on, as they have here with Alexa.

The first you will hear of its availability is the day a release is made with it in, after which you will have to wait for it to roll out to your box. Could be a day, could be several weeks.

But you may be pleased to know that Humax Retail boxes generally get these releases before the ISP boxes, so having a Retail box puts you, if not perhaps in pole position, certainly high up on the grid :-)

    YouView recently tweeted saying:
"YouView and Voice Controlled TV - See the latest article here: http://ow.ly/6QDi30fr0sc "
Be warned this is a very long read with a relatively short section about YouView.

One thing needs to be noted with the introduction of new features - they have to have mass market appeal, as YouView is a mass market platform, not niche. This new feature seems to be full steam ahead.  :)

Wonder what market share is ?

    18% -

So mass market box goes with mass market Voice device. Which makes sense.

The Amazon Echo(Alexa) us improving all the time and just this week there was an Alexa app update for smartphones to allow you to make phone calls and send messages to others that have the app or an Alexa supported device. I have not tried the new call feature yet with my sisters Echo or her Alexa app. I also got my Echo linked with two TP-Link wi-fi smart plugs. so I can ask it to turn a lamp in living room as well as a bedside lamp in my room on or off. It can also link up with my IOS colander. I also like how you can ask Alexa to add stuff to a shopping list and it displays what you want via the app.
Amazon are due to bring out a new version of the Amazon Echo next month plus other Amazon Alexa products.
