I can see no technical or aesthetic reason for this. It's particularly annoying as one can see the main 6 HiDef 'terrestrial' channels at once while scrolling, but if you want to look at or set a BBC1 or BBC4 program to record, you have to then move the list back by scrolling ."
I'm sorry but I have to take issue with that.

    • You had to scroll the list before and this new EPG is no different.
    • There are 4 main HD terrestrial channels (plus CH5), not 6 (and BARB figures back that up there).
    •  "I can see 6 channels at a time, but can only 'highlight' or select the center 4"
    • I sorry but that is not correct. One can perfectly well access the bottom on screen 6th channel and land on it with no need to move the cursor again.
    • "the the list [then] jumps up or down so the highlighted one is in the middle 4."
    •  This in no way is a barrier to using the EPG as one did before.
The main feature a lot of users have called for is the return of an EPG wrap-around.
and necessitates many more button presses than with old gen. Quite why they thought it would be a 'good idea' is beyond me.
Just like them putting the MyTV menu option 2 clicks away after pressing the blue YouView button - even further away than on the OldGen system (which was only 1/adjacent) when in 90% of the time it will be the only reason you go to the menu in the first place. Now the adjacent option is 'Players and Apps' instead.  (Who goes to 'Players and Apps' anyway?  Isnt the selling point of YouView because its EPG automatically links and plays the programs from the GUIDE in the first place?).  Even now, it defaults to landing on the GUIDE option even though there is a dedicated GUIDE button.  Its all screwed up IMO. (The default landing option upon pressing the YouView button should be MyTV). But then again, it isnt Youview that has to pay for your remote's batteries so why should they care?

    Consider that feedback, Youview.

I for one use 'Players & Apps' as I save my favourite shows within the players I use. I do agree however that 'Mytv' should be the default landing option when pressing the Youview button.

That was called for even before the original day zero public launch with the T1000.
Its what everyone wants, but they just won't do it. Absolutely refuse to, even.
I've had a few deep conversations about this with another user on here, and we both came to the same conclusion. But I'll leave other forum members to publicly post theirs.
I use the Players & apps too, as they are superb. I'm not having a go there, btw, as a YouViews functions are diverse to say the least and from the comments posted on this forum many different people use it it many different ways. Each to their own.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

So are there any plans to do the following?

    • Reduce the amount of time the OSD is onscreen e.g. when you pause, continue playback etc.?
    • Return to a title based display with pages we can skip between to allow us a much faster way of navigation the likes of a series folder with a large number of episodes?
These are two of my biggest grievances with the next gen update as they really do feel a like a step backwards for the user experience.
I too find those two things to be the worst aspects of next gen. The OSD should be user controllable in terms of how long it remains on screen (like it used to be a while ago). My OSD lasts for eight seconds now, up from the already ridiculous five secs before the 28.26 update.

Also downsizing it would be a step forward, and bringing back the time features on the timebar so that they are actually useful instead of the "info" that's currently on there.

I don't know if Youview monitor every thread but you've asked for problems to be included in this thread Sarah. My box's live buffer has gone whacko since the 28.26 update. It no longer functions correctly if the box has been on a channel for more than two hours. It was neverba problem before.

I've already started a thread about this. I don't use a lot of the extra features on this box, I use it for two things: recording programmes and live pause. The loss of the second thing is a major issue for me. All of this has been covered in the other thread. Apologies if I'm repeating myself unnecessarily.

    Feedback for YouView:

I hate the tiles anyway.  But then this is my RECORDINGS screen right now:

    image

I should complain that they are not all BLACK (which would be preferable if we really must have them).

Want a laugh?  Take another look:

    image

"Tonight At The Palladium" - given the BBC iPlayer APP logo for its tile.    And the irony is that Tonight At The Palladium is an ITV program!!

(And no, I have no internet problems.  Everything is fine and fast.  And if it wasnt all tiles would be the same).

So, Youview, are you acknowledging this happens and that you will work to fix it (or just get rid and give the Text list back)?

Grunders your example appears to relate to a Wednesday 14 June recording. This software release appears to have launched c 10 July and presumably was phased so are you highlighting issues that existed on your box prior to it updating to BT software 28.26.0 ?

Nope.  Up to yesterday this all looked fine (all recordings had all the correct tiles).  So this crazy display has happened today.  However, I think I remember seeing a similar report of such crazy disaplys iun the previous 27.x.x. versions too so it is definitely a bug that happens radoimly...but happens all the same.

Here is a screen shot of the same screen just before I deleted one program (Eastenders - the 2nd tile) and the screenshot above.  You can see there that the 'London Palladium' tile didnt have an image at all (like the other blank ones).  Subsequently, after the deletion the Iplayer APP  logo just appeared on that tile.

    image

    I just checked again.  Now:

    image

Now the "Tonight..." program and most of the others have just got its tiles back - I say MOST, but not all.

This thing is living!  .....I'd rather it didnt.  I'd rather it displayed as it should do and stay put.

I had it confirmed to me by a friend that this is a known bug which is being worked on. When she contacted Youview directly she was told that the random pictures and blank tiles is one that has them scratching their heads but that work is being done to sort it out.

Time to write another observation of a fault that I have witnessed in this infested NewGen software a few times bit not yet reported.

    Scenario:

1, Choose a program that is one for many hours (eg, a Formula 1 GP race) and schedule it to record.  Note: I dont know if this step (to record it) is important - its just that I always am and dont know any different.

2,  Watch the program though the LIVE feed anyway (do NOT watching the recording in MyTV, we are watching the LIVE broadcast.)

3,  Several hours in to watching the program (Im guessing over 2 hours) attempt to use the 15second ¦<<  rewind to replay the last 15 seconds.

Results:  It doesnt work!!!  It simply stutters a little and continues to show the live feed.  The ability to rewind/reply the last 15 seconds (or even further) has failed.  Its as though it is now no longer recording the live feed to rewind.

HOWEVER:  pressing PAUSE and creating a buffer for a few seconds, then play (from the buffer) and THEN press ¦<< 15 sec rewind DOES correctly rewind.   But then pressing STOP to resume live broadcast returns back to the problem.

Conclusion:  after a long period (eg after 2 hours) the 15seconds rewind during live viewing fails to work.

Hi Grunders. At what point in switching from live to the recording (which is known as 'chase playing') did you press the 15 second 'skip back' button? In other words what was the time index on the recording when you flicked back?

No, it doesn't. Interesting though that it stuttered. If you had been watching the recording whilst the F1 was still broadcasting live, the 15 second skip has the potential to flick back an hour.
Just for info - watching a recording of a live broadcast is known as 'chase playing'.
I know about these problems intimately and have done for years, far before YouView launched.
I could show you work arounds that work, so long as you don't respond 'I shouldn't have to do that!'

Update:  the recording (in part 1) is irrelevant.  The program I was watching (the F1 race) has long finished and am now half way through the live broadcast of the successive program and the problem still exists.

(When pressing the button the time bar seems to jump back to some time during the last program before then returning back to current live feed).  In short:  its screwed.  (I know that changing channel will make the problem go away and the 15 second rewind will start to work again as expected.  But for how long?  The next 2 hours only??)

There is a known issue with incorrect behaviour when the 'pause/rewind' buffer - the one for the channel you are watching - hits its two hour limit, and has to start throwing away the earliest minutes as the new minutes come in.

As you surmise, this has nothing to do with whether you are separately recording the channel or not.

Seemingly "throwing away the earliest minutes" involves completely forgetting the full 120+ minutes altogether and simply stop remembering anything at all. At least Youview have now had the feedback that it is (still?) happening.

    User Feedback:
I had to perform a reset recently where now I have all the channels back including those previously hidden, so it's even more of a chore scrolling through all the pages now.

An update to restore the hide function, or favourites channels inclusion would
be preferable at this point please.

    Thank You All

PS: Any changes to that effect will not change my viewing preferences, but would save considerable time getting there.

PPS: If said changes are implemented, I would be more likely to drag myself away from very interesting and informative discusions on You Tube not covered in any depth elsewhere ie the supression of the Peoples Republic of Kekistan by the Normies.

    Hi all,

I have removed quite a few posts from this chain as the comments were becoming personal and there was some inappropriate language being posted which is not suitable for the YouView forum as per our Community Guidelines

As mentioned in Community Terms of Use:

Do not make uninvited remarks about typos, duplicate posts, posting styles, etc.

As a reminder, this thread is for users experiencing issues or who want to leave feedback regarding the BT 28.26.0 update. Going off topic and aggravating other users can cause arguments (as it has done here) so please avoid doing this in future.

If you have an issue unrelated to this particular update, we suggest you create a new thread as it'll be easier for you to get assistance with your problem.

If you would like to report a post on the community, please email us at [email protected] with a link to the post (you can get this link by clicking the time stamp on the post) and ideally some info on why you are reporting it as it helps us get some context.

".. this thread is for users experiencing issues or who want to leave feedback regarding the BT 28.26.0 update."

Sarah, while you were here you could have obtained feedback yourself or asked someone knowledgeable about the software to directly address what's going on with the promised reintroduction of the hide channel option, or even a temporary or permanent favourites function to vastly improve usability for the er...user.

    Thank You

I think the point is that this topic is for feedback related to this particular update, rather than another opportunity to raise more general issues, or other problems.

Sarah, while you were here you could have obtained feedback yourself or asked someone knowledgeable about the software to directly address what's going on with the promised reintroduction of the hide channel option, or even a temporary or permanent favourites function to vastly improve usability for the er...user.

    Thank You

Thank you, he is surprisingly cool in the circumstances, but then that is often the way, what can you do? As for the search facility here, good luck, I gave up on it years ago!

The American spirit is amazing isn't it, they just get on with it.

Search and forum layout wise, I just tried and reminded myself
why I always post the same general problems on the most recent update thread> there is no other option available to find<  except a dead link to
direct feedback on the front page r/h side.

I agree that the spirit shown in recent media coverage is amazing,  although I think it is a human trait rather than specifically American, stoicism and resilience in the face of adversity. Coming from a family of refugees who lost everything in WW2 and had to start their lives from scratch I think I have more than a degree of empathy. But enough of this off-topic chat, it is only likely to encourage haters.

    Hi Visionman,
with respect; unless you know a work-around where I can hide channels on my now massively overpopulated TV guide, you cannot help me or anyone else with this same basic problem on all models with Next Gen software.
These are feedback postings intended for those who ask for feedback so they can pass it
    up the chain of command.

    DTRT2100 SWV 28.26

    Thanks
