New forum feedback

Hi everyone,

We've been hard at work upgrading the current forum to what it is now and it's been quite a hefty process. We've migrated over over 11,591 users and over 7,438 threads from the previous forum plus all the user profile details and posts which go with these, so it's quite a lot of data to pull across!

You should get a pop up when you first enter the site which will give you a little tour, however if you're missed something or are a bit stuck, check out our user guide here

If your username has changed, you can change it to something else on your profile. If you want to use a name assigned to another user, please let me know and I can look into this for you.

We hope that this launch will go as smooth as possible however some things may only come to light once we are fully live. It is not unusual to have a few things to iron out at the early launch phase so if you do come across something please let us know here and bear with us.

Thanks a lot,
Sarah

    Thanks @Sarah,

What a joy to have a proper full featured forum to post on.

Looks good. Can we have English date conventions please i.e. 3 October instead of October 3?

Sarah... It let me in this morning and congratulated me on administrator level. All day it wouldn't let me back in. Have had to create a new account. It's blocking my old login.

    Hiya

Have you tried logging back into the other account in the last 10 mins? We turned off sign in capabilities for members for most of the day so you will not have been able to sign in through any accounts until very recently.

The only thing I will miss is my green avatar but it's a sacrifice I'm prepared to make for a forum with full functionality. Says a lot about get satisfaction if all I will miss is a picture.

I would have loved to have been privy to the conversation when youview told get sat they don't require there service anymore

Out of curiosity what happens to the old forum accounts as I know it allowed you to log into other forums?

I am guessing I have to press the emoji button on the forum. I tried to use the Google keyboard on my mobile but I got a load of question marks instead in my last post that I edited out.

Yes, the emojis we use are from the Apple emoji set so some of them will work if you have an Apple device however if you have an Android it may not work. Basic ones like smiley faces could work on Android however this isn't something we've tested for so far. You can type out the emoji instead by doing a ':' first and then typing the emoji name for example ': cookie :' without the spaces will turn into :cookie:

    @Daniel

You can use the smiley drop down in the editor, but you can also add smilies by typing them in keyboard style, a colon should give you a popup box to choose from.

    John

Edit - typing a colon seems a bit intermittent at the moment

    Hi Daniel,
You can still use your old Get Sat account log in details on other Get Sat forums without any problems. You should also be able to login into one and copy across your profile picture to use on here!

Thanks everyone when I get chance I will take a look at the old get sat account. Thanks for the comments on the emojis.

Yes, avatars are changeable. So just select the one you want and edit it across.

I definitely will be changing it soon for some reason I sort of think that the new one looks sort of like a pizza  :):):)

I don't know if it's just my device, but the format of email notifications could be more compact / mobile friendly.

I'm using the GMail app on Android and I have so scroll the message horizontally to read it all. Unable to zoom out.

@Roy Huge difference having a fully functional forum isn't it Roy. I'm sure you will be celebrating today  :):):)

You will be one of the long term members who more than anyone else is glad to see the back of get satisfaction :)

For some reason the avatar turned out blue however I'm satisfied as it's close enough and don't look like a pizza.
  • DanielDaniel Member, Super User Posts: 1,979 ✭✭✭
@Wayne I will change my forum account to my Gmail address then post if I get the same issue.

    Hi @Sarah

Is it possible to put Keith's maintenance mode sticky back up?

A feature it would be nice if Vanilla would implement would be to include the pagination links in topics at the top as well as the bottom :)

@Wayne I just got two notifications from this thread without issue. Might just be a issue with smaller phones.

*edit* Scratch that I just had a notification where I had to scroll. My phone is large so not a lot of scrolling granted but some was present.

Interestingly if I look via my profile at discussions I created then

    https://community.youview.com/youview/discussion/6251537/top-tip-soft-reset-reboot-power-cycling-maintenance-mode-and-factory-reset

is marked as a 'featured topic' yet it is not showing on the top of the main community page. I wonder if the front page only shows up to 5 featured topics (3 as blocks and 2 more in the list).

    @Keith

Interesting - if you go to categories on the right hand panel and select FEEDBACK then your sticky shows in that category, but not on the HOME screen!

@Anaglypta - interesting indeed. Adding to that the feedback listing shows 3 stickies, yet it seems the consolidated list of improvements and feature requests is also marked as a featured topic for feedback yet not showing there.
  • It's ok. It's only a forum after all. A lot of messing around this morning but it's working now at least.

As you can imagine though a lot of people post here frequently some more than others and the get satisfaction software wasn't exactly swimming in a lot of features. Obviously to a contributor who don't particularly have lots of posts may not have noticed but to ones that post regularly it's a big deal to them.

Agree. And also introduce a 'go to the top' tab at the bottom of each thread.

Home key on my keyboard does that for me! and yes I know that not all devices have that. On my phone though, I can get from here to the top of this thread with two swipes.
