Low sound from bt youview ultrahd

We are using a BT Youview ULTRAHD (91-00582) to play to a Phillips TV (32PFT5603/05) via an HDMI cable. The sound volume is controlled by the TV via the TV remote or the BT remote. Sound level on all channels are unacceptably low.

Go through the youview box settings again and when prompted adjust the volume to your desired level. It does warn (for want of a better word) that once set the level will remain at the level it was when the box was set up.

To quote from the user guide:
    Maximum volume too low?
If you need to change the volume on your BT TV box after setting up
your remote, hold down AD while pressing Vol +, Vol -.
    and yes, it does work.

I recently bought a used BT Ultra box and haven't had any such problems.

I use it with the remote not paired to the tv. That means I can alter the box's sound without changing the TV sound level. I haven't come across a single time when I've needed the remote pairing.

Why would you not pair the youview remote with the TV??

Because @sevan erroneously(?) thinks that the behaviour of the remote, with regards to the YouView box, will vary if he does?

@sevan, what do you think will change?

Nobody, though, has yet mentioned that to get the best out of the YouView box, you want to operate it in Surround, rather than Stereo, Mode. And that puts the sound up to 100%, non-adjustable.

One less thing to worry about.....
Where do all those characters that you type in search boxes and which never appear go to?

Paired, the volume buttons change the tv volume, unpaired they change the box volume.

    Thanks @sevan

So they do - you learn something every day.

    From the Guide:-

How to set your YouView remote to control your TV

Before you start, make sure the volume on your YouView box isn’t muted or set too low. Your remote will control your TV volume once it’s programmed, so it’s best to do this now (although you’ll still be able to change the YouView box volume by holding down AD while adjusting the volume).

Though note the workaround in parentheses....
