ITV hub issue on Sony Bravia TV

Hi, can anyone advise please?

Bought a new Sony Bravia TV and have activated Youview and tuned it. When i try to watch anything on ITV Hub though, it plays the pre programme adverts but can’t play the programme. It displays ‘Whoops there’s something wrong here’. Why is this? Other apps like BBC iplayer, Amazon Prime and Netflix work fine.

cheers,
Andy

Greetings @across1 and welcome to the Community!

All the commercial broadcasters’ Players seem to suffer from this, from time to time.

The basic problem is that the adverts are served from a different source from the actual programmes, and there are sometimes difficulties re-establishing the programme stream when the adverts are finished.

Though nobody has ever been able to explain to my satisfaction why this never happens on the way in to the adverts...... :p

As to what you can do, a thing worth trying is pressing the On/Standby button on the TV remote for just over 5 seconds until the TV (non-destructively) soft reboots.

This may or may not banish the gremlins, but it is the first thing to try.

Please come back and tell us how you got on, and if that didn’t work, we have more drastic nostrums you can try.

Thanks Roy, after much head scratching and looking online for the answer I tried a Factory Reset and it has worked. Bit of pain signing back into everything but ITV Hub is now playing.

    Appreciate your reply though.

    All the best,
    A

Glad you got it fixed. My next option for you would have been to try clearing the itv Hub cache, and only if that did not work either, then the nuclear option of a Factory Reset.

But there is a lot to be said for going straight for the nuclear option, if you don’t have too much that you need to put back afterwards  :p
