Caldbeck transmitter retune, lost HD channels

I turned on my tv/youview box this morning and got greeted with no signal message. Had a bit fiddle about and managed to work out a lot of HD channels had disappeared on every tv in the house. Did a retune and...... still missing some HD channels, although most had returned. It seems that the Caldbeck transmitter has been altered necessitating a retune.

I was still bemused by the lack of BBC News HD for instance and google revealed that they've been removed from Caldbeck. Anyone know what's going on and when (or if!!) we'll get these back? It's 2019 and they've taken several HD channels away from us. WTAF?

    Hi @DaveGrohl

I made a thread here which has a bit more detail on the 700MHz changes, unfortunately with some of these events, certain transmitters are losing COM7 & COM8 so a number of channels are lost in the process.
If you have any queries regarding the channels you should be receiving, we would recommend that you reach out to the Freeview advice line on 0808 100 0288.

    Thanks,
    Sarah

Thanks for the details, Sarah.  That explains why I lost all the HD channels unexpectedly.  A re-tune sorted it out but ......

So we've now lost one of the few decent HD channels (BBC 4) from the Caldbeck transmitter.  Well done, Ofcom (insert sarcasm emoticon here).  Really cracking decision there.  BBC4 broadcasts many programmes that are artistic in nature and so benefit from HD.  Ah well, back to the Stone Age...it was fun while it lasted.

    Hello @countryman2 ,
Loosing HD channels sucks, however this is a BBC channel so you have a partial work around. If you tune to the SD version, then press the red button you can "Watch Live" on the iPlayer. Providing you have set up iPlayer for best quality, you should get close to full HD quality even with a modest broadband speed (4Mbs / second).

    Hope this helps

    John.

Err think you'll find Love island was not on BBC 4 nor celebrity juice and take me out, how much culture does one need.😃
