I have a BT retail box which was not on the list yet for an update to the software which has BritBox. I bought a BT T2200 box today so I could watch BritBox. Guess what. It's not there. The box says it has the latest software Why do I have to wait? How long before I can watch BritBox? I hate these phased roll outs. I am ALWAYS at the end of the queue, no matter what the rollout.
Good afternoon Philip1, Someone's not happy (!) Appreciate you have just spent money, but this is the problem with technology. I'm amazed that Youview are still doing updates during the Coronavirus crisis. I'm another Youview user. You are in a queue, but so are many other users with their Youview boxes. Yes frustrating, but it's not the end of the world.
Most important thing at the moment in time . . . . is that your health is ok. There are more important worries at the moment with the Coronavirus. Britbox I'm sure will be with you very shortly. Can you get Britbox on your Tv or via another device if you have this?
Yes, it is frustrating with some of the Youview updates, but give Youview some praise . . . at least the staff are still working very hard from home to try & help/support customers.
Take care in the meantime. John L
Can't wait for the day when Youview get rid of the dreaded darkened banner when using fast forward/rewind recordings.
I'm happy to buy a third or a fourth box if this would guarantee me the BritBox update. Phased roll-out is a choice made by YouView. It doesn't have to be like that. It creates an artificial scarcity and adds perceived value to the product. We shouldn't just roll over and accept things like some are prepared to do. The world doesn't need to completely stop because of Covid19, particularly in areas where the provision of the service doesn't require working in close proximity to others. The software is done and dusted, it just needs to be sent out to more boxes. A few key presses on a computer somewhere. It has been 10 days since the roll-out started.
I'm absolutely not surprised that YouView is doing software updates. Software development is very often done at home - developers have no need to work in an office community. We should all be working from home where possible.
The problem is that BritBox isn't making its software available on many platforms. If you have a new smart TV you're possibly in luck, otherwise it's Chromecast, the latest Apple TV or Amazon Fire Stick. Maybe I ought to order a new Apple TV? That is guaranteed to have BritBox.
It's not that it isn't making its software available, no one actually wants it. Be thankful that all youview will eventually get it, something that Sky and Virgin will never see.
I currently watch it via Chromecast and much prefer it to Netflix. I hate US drama - I find it way too formulaic. I have Netflix, Amazon Prime and BritBox. I watch something on Netflix once a month, if that, and it's usually British oriented stuff like The Crown. I pay for Sky merely because of the way catch-up is organised - downloading rather than streaming programmes and then series record auto setfor live broadcasts when catch-up episodes are exhausted. Very slick. I never watch any of the Sky channels. BritBox, however, I watch every day. I love it and it's a keeper. I've been watching an episode of Lewis each day during lockdown, as well as Dr Who from the start. I've just started watching Endeavour and I have an enormous queue of programmes in my watch list.
I think I might buy a new Apple TV - I'll get BritBox, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Plex, pretty much all the services I use, as well as a free year of Apple TV+. All bases covered.
Philip1 If only life was simple. We take so much for granted. A lot has changed with technology in a very short space of time. Hopefully you will be happier when you get your Britbox. Maybe Britbox will start their very own forum. I'm sure they will welcome many ideas. John L

I have now ordered an Apple TV 4th generation and will sell both of my YouView boxes on eBay. Life can be as simple as you make it. YouView chose to do a phased roll out, many other companies don't. I had a simple choice to ditch YouView and buy an Apple TV rather than wallowing in the wait for YouView to to decide me worthy enough to receive their software update. Simple choice. Simple life. Move on.
