Players on Sony Android TVs - sanity at last?

@Sarah @Louise Murdoch

I see from the review of the Sony KD-49XH9505 in the latest What Hi-Fi? that the ITV Hub and All4 are now available even if you have disabled YouView.

You can’t go very far on the Sony Community without coming up against the gripes that:-
(a) these apps are only available on the YouView UI and
(b) you need to have tuned the TV with a terrestrial aerial in order to get them.

So (a) seems to be now officially solved, but the ragazine is silent on (b)

Do you know what the situation is on this?

    Hi @Roy
    Newer Sony 2020 models do not need an aerial in order to use the ITV Hub or All4 apps :)
    Thanks,

    Is this via a software update as I have the KD49XG9005.

    @DJHB1980

    My understanding is that this comes with the new H 2020 TVs.

    I don’t know if it can, or will, come to your G, and older models.

    Do you know no rest? And why? You don't even have one anymore.
    I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

    Even if I still had that 2015 TV, there are many models that followed that I haven’t got. But as YouView on Sony Android TV hasn’t observably moved on since then, my advice on that topic seems to be as current as ever.

    Why do the Players supplied by, or through, YouView on Sony TVs before 2020 say that you can’t record anything while they are playing?

    This makes no sense, and isn’t some overall resource limitation, as it is entirely possible to record while running Netflix.

    As a larger question, it would be useful to know what limitations YouView impose on the Players, over and above anything in the plain vanilla versions we might find on other makes of smart TV, say, both for the pre-2020 situation, and for the current 2020 situation, where ‘(YouView)’ has suddenly appeared after ‘Sony’ in the Manufacturer’s name for each model:-
