Linear TV - Linear TV is a traditional TV system/platform in which a viewer watches (or records) a scheduled TV program when it's broadcast in the order it was meant to be broadcast on its original channel. The viewer can only watch (or record) the program that the service provider has decided to be shown, according to the broadcast programming schedule.
Cord Cutting - Is the act of switching and cancelling a linear pay TV subscription on cable, satellite or terrestrial Television, to an Internet-based streaming service only such as Netflix/Amazon Prime/Disney Plus. The purpose of cord cutting is to save money each month.
Hope that helps if anyone didn't know.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.
Im now thinking of when my Now contract is up with BT next year then just getting the Now Big Entertainment with HD add on direct from Now. As im starting to get fed up with being with being tied in to a long TV contract. Would just keep the Youview boxes as Freeview PVRs.
I thought BT offered the same flexibility on Now - to pick up and drop packages/bundles at will? Are you saying you are tied in to Now long-term, without this option?
Or are you just tied to a BT TV contract for a YouView box or boxes - in which case, with BT’s new T&Cs since what, late 2019 - aren’t they going to want their YouView boxes, which are only loaned to you, back when you leave your contract?

@Roy im tied in to a BT contract for Now till end of feb 2022. One of my BT Youview boxs is a retail box. Other box I got of BT in early 2018 after the BT T1000 packed in. You can change packages once a month but the Entertainment package you have to have for 2 years and now includes a lone of a Youview box.

Despite avoiding the tender mercies of BT TV, I’m tied into two years’ Broadband with them, so a contract with BT is unavoidable for me, in this area at least.
Looking at what BT have done with Now, it’s very smart. They aren’t really interested in users dipping in and out of monthly packages, so they have mainly fixed Now offerings, and have in fact turned themselves into an internet reseller of Sky. They have addressed two of the main failings of Now, the execrable help service and the clunky way it approaches linear programming, by doing their own Now help for BT TV Now subscribers, and providing the linear channels via their BT TV channels on the YouView boxes, where you can also record.
All of which makes Now via BT TV much more like Sky than Now direct is. The quid pro quo for this, though, is that another way in which this is more like Sky is that you don’t get the flexibility of Now to dip in and out; and I suspect that BT think a lot of people don’t want this flexibility, or don’t care enough about saving the odd few quid to worry about losing it, and will sign up for the duration.
Myself, and you after February 2022, on the other hand, don’t care about the seamless linear channels, but do care about the flexibility of Now, and the constant retention discounts we can get by starting to cancel; I just got 3 months of Boost at £1/mo instead of the advertised £5/mo by doing this.
But BT won’t care overmuch about losing us, as long as the punters keep rolling up for BT’s not-quite-Sky.
Do you get to keep your 2018 BT YouView box, do you know? The penalties for hanging on to a box they want back seem quite draconian; even after you have paid a non-return fee, they retain ownership of the box. Which seems like an unfair contract term to me, and thereby unenforceable, but you might not want to be the person on whom this is tested in a court of law…

@Roy I sort of had a feeling I could keep my 2018 Youview box. I agree with you about BT don’t seem to care about the flexibility for the Now TV packages and want you tied in to a 2 year contract. That’s good that you got 3 months of Boost for £1. Also BT don’t seem to offer any discounts for current Now subscribers and only now and again offer Now discounts for new customers.
It was not a decision but a suggestion, and one I gave my reason for suggesting earlier. A suggestion you seem unwilling to consider, so I will leave it at that.

Proves my point exactly. What must currently be done cautiously and affectionately, you are declaring open season on.
I suggest we consider this thread Closed.
Yet again, that isn't your decision.
