REMOTE ISSUES

I am new to BT Vision and I am already hacked off with the stupid remote. It is clearly designed for young people with slim fingers. For those over, say 50, it is a nightmare. If anything is going to bet me back to Sky it is this. Is there anything on the offing about an upgrade to this?

    @astonman, why are you complaining on a Youview forum? Unless you mean the remotes from the BT Youview boxes for 2100 & 4000 models. I would then complain directly to BT who supplied your box if under subscription, or return box to retailer (if purchased directly) for a refund if not happy. BT Vision is nothing actually to do with the current Youview hardware.

    If it is the remote control for the current BT Youview 2100 & 4000 models, yes the buttons are small, but very manageable for a 50+ year old to use, depends how big your fingers are. Can't help you with this, but can only suggest you could always swap the remote for a universal remote instead? Hopefully problem solved.

    All the boxes seem to have small buttons on remotes these days inc the Sky Q boxes. Maybe look for one of the older Sky boxes that have the chunky buttons. At the end of the day, the choice is yours. John L

    Can't wait for the day when Youview get rid of the dreaded darkened banner when using fast forward/rewind recordings.

    Hi @astonman I'm assuming that you have a BT YouView box.
    If so I guess the problem you have is with the central group of buttons around the OK button.
    One alternative is to use a remote which is intended for a Humax YouView box (this is compatible with the BT YouView box).
    It looks like this:

    You can get these at very low cost here:

    And it's much less fiddly!  :)

    @astonman @jimb

    I agree about the BT remotes; we use the old curvy remote with our T4000, and we both prefer it.

    But @jimb, have you actually bought and used one of those knock-off remotes, as described in your link? I have one, and it’s awful, the buttons don’t click properly, and it misses about one press in four. It’s at the back of a drawer now, and we are using a proper Humax remote, not a third-party clone.

    The very early BT youview remotes had larger, more spaced out, buttons, but are now only available second hand.  Including postage the ones I've seen for sale varied from about £8 to £20.
    If you decide to buy one make sure that the remote has a blue button labelled "youview" as there is a very similar pre-youview BT Vision remote.  Confusingly both the youview and the BT Vision remote have a button marked "BT Vision".
    This is an image of the youview version, with the blue youview button near the top left.

    The remote for the BT TV Box Pro is different so  you might  consider updating to that box when it is fully launched.

    I'm not convinced about that @Roy.
    The feedback for this item is pretty good - only 1 negative in 206 comments.

    @astonman - it's worth noting that Roy (and Mrs Roy) prefer the "curvy" Humax remote to control a BT box.

    @jimb

    Well, I didn’t get it from them, so maybe there is more than one source of cloned Humax remotes.

    And the negative feedback wasn’t about the item itself, it was about it not arriving.

    So maybe this is a good clone; but I would still prefer the real thing.
