BT Pro HD Upgrade

Greeatings all,

Is there any knowledge or experience of what the maximum size HD or 2.5 SSD upgrade might be possible with this box and what specific drives might be suitable replacements?

    The Pro boxes remain the property of BT.
    I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

    Thanks - this is from ebay.  Anyone with either feedback from either first hand knowledge or read elseswhere appreciated.

    To update. Bought two of these on ebay to pigggyback together to replace the two UHD's I currently use which will be relegated to another home.  I'm going to hold off replacing the drives for a while!

    I have also bought one off ebay why do you want to replace the hard drive?

    Did you get proper title to it, or has someone sold you BT’s property, which they may want to recover? 😱

    Wouldn't BT more likely  take the easy option and charge the ex-BT-TV customer £115?

    Yes, they well might. But note that the £115 is a non-return penalty, and not the proceeds of a sale. BT does not relinquish ownership thereby.

    §36(c) of BT TV T&Cs says:

    Payment of the non-return equipment charge does not transfer ownership, you must still return the loaned equipment.

    In all fairness this is not a revelation...BT have always pulled this one often in the past resorting to bare faced lies to get people to return equipment. 
    They should take a leaf out of Sky's book.

    Sky actually remotely disable the functionality of any Sky box outside of subscription. 
    So why don't BT do this rendering the box unless. 

    Well....

    The truth is the pro box just like the T4000 is a free to all freeview (aka youview PVR)
    It's a freeview service and that's why they can't emulate Sky and disable the boxes remotely.  
    Also £115 is a bloody good price for a cutting edge PVR so win win.
    Talking of win/win really couldn't sit through another plenty shoot out.

    @kodikid, you will need another theory. Here’s the BT Vision box, the one they used to supply before they adopted (some would say co-opted) YouView:-

    As you will see, that offered Freeview channels, but this did not prevent BT from disabling it if you moved away from BT broadband. I had a silver one with BT, but when I moved to Sky Broadband, I can personally attest that the BT Vision box stopped working.

    So BT could certainly disable their Pro boxes remotely if they wanted, at least as far as any Freeview consideration goes. 

    Maybe it’s a condition of using YouView that providers mustn’t do this?

    As per the postings above yours, £115 doesn’t buy you a Pro box from BT, so please don’t be faux naïf about it.

    To increase the storage. I still haven't read of anyone upgrading the drive yet.
