Universal One for All Remote MACRO command useful for accessing MYTV quicker!
Hi everyone,
Recently I experimented with one of my One for All Universal remote controls. I still find accessing the recordings page an even longer process since the revamped Homepage has slowed menus down. I
knew that you could do Macro commands, but never got round to it until
recently.
If anyone is interested in overcoming the Slooooooow process of accessing
Recordings page since Youview introduced the updated Homepage or as before
there is no quick access, unless you have certain Talk Talk remote control with
dedicated button here is your answer!
This may vary depending on model you own, but I guess this may be standard across all of their products.
Press "Magic" button, type 995, press device button, then select a button you want to use on your own universal remote i.e. "fav", then you simply key in a sequence of macro commands: Youview Button, press arrow down twice (may need to do this 3 times depending on your remote - I tested this on a few different remotes I have & one of them was twice & the other needed 3 presses of arrow down key) then hit "ok" & press "Magic" key once again.
It is a easy process, but does take a bit of experimentation. But well worth the effort. Hey presto, when you press your nominated button i.e. "fav" it should take you directly to "My Tv page". It could take you to Apps if you are somewhere else within menus, but to me this is "slight" progress in making Youview MyTv menu more user-friendly. Has anyone else tried this? Be interested to know what you think. John L

It has one marked ‘Setup’, though. Will that do?
I have tried it on 2 of the One for All remotes and they use the Magic key. Yes Roy, I think you need to use Setup key instead:
How can I set up a macro on my Contour remote? (oneforall.com)
Might be worth looking on their website if you need more help. Worth a try. Enjoy! John L
There is not a sniff of this macro capability in the instructions for the Contour itself, though the Help you link to explains how it is done, and I would not have known the remote could do this without your useful post.
But alas, via a key called, rather ordinarily, Setup.
(no macros needed)
Can you explain how this works? The one for all remotes have either 4 or 5 number codes for the main device code for entire functions or you can programme keys by the learning mode. Does 00249 act as a learning mode so that when you press a button learnt by remote, it then takes you directly to my TV? Which remote are you using? John L
The macro creates a shortcut button to save keying in several keystrokes each time to navigate to my TV, unless there is another method? Correct me if I am wrong? John L
Hold Magic key til it blinks once and then twice
Enter the code 994 the light blinks twice
Enter the code 00249
Press the key you wish to assign to MyTv
The light blinks twice
The key should now work
Which model of remote are you using? The 994 code from my instructions for Urc-7556 & urc-8350 (uses 995 instead) is for adding missing keys to remote, it doesn't provide shortcut to take you directly to my TV menu. I know the newer current remote models have mode button + also have watch mode on them. Also have a urc-7140 and not sure if this will also work? But this certainly doesn't do a macro on 2 of my remotes. Just tried to see if this worked and it didn't! John L
It doesn’t work if you have already used 995 to assign a macro to the button.
Delete that and try again, or try @robin0800 ’s recipe with a different button on the remote.
So you choose whatever you have assigned to be the button for YouView, and then you do the described 994 sequence, culminating in 00249.
In effect, you are adding a missing key, the MyTV button that your YouView remote doesn’t have, but to which your YouView box will respond, using the EFC (Extended Function Code) 00249, which the OFA remote maps onto the MyTV function.
You have to know the EFCs for your device though, as OFA don’t publish them, and won’t let anyone else publish them.
But you can glean a few from the web, e.g:-

Yes, indeed it does work! Only just retested on one of the remotes. The method I first tried with macro you need to plan your keystrokes, it then takes you through the menu stages, so slight lag, but using @robin0800 's suggestion is immediate response directly to my TV page. Even better! Have to see if this works on other remotes.
Well, never thought using an universal remote was going to be even more useful! Thank you to you both. Hopefully any other users seeing this topic + any previous will benefit. John L

Yes you are quite correct. I already knew this, but was experimenting with the macros on universal remotes had found something useful. Thought is was a good idea to share rather than anyone purchasing an extra remote. But ever better! @robin0800 had a even better suggestion with direct code. It's amazing! Thank you again.
Why didn't Youview supply code for everyone with universal/macro compatible remotes to overcome the long-winded home menu? Now that's an even, even better solution! John L
