Is Youview Coming to an end and winding down.

What is the future for YouView? TalkTalk no longer offers Recording boxes and is now issuing Netgem which does not have any recording feature apart from if you insert a USB pen drive.  The service help video is out of date and many of the functions are slow and the menus are outdated.    There are some online sites saying ITV have invested alongside other until 2024.   However, when speaking with TalkTalk they say the recording boxes will no longer update the full version of ITV HUB.   Does anyone know what TalkTalk and Youview are doing?

YouView has not moved with the times, the remote record app that was very good was discontinued by YouView and shortly afterwards TalkTalk got rid of the Remote record app.  As a TalkTalk customer, they have informed me we can use BT remote record app, whilst this works it shows me all that BT offers but it works with TalkTalk Boxes.

The YouView Website has not been updated in years and is outdated and needs an overhaul, it makes me think that this once great product that worked well is slowly closing down and Youview have lost interest and rely on BT and TalkTalk and TalkTalk and YouView no longer market this service and as a customer, I would like to know what is going on with YouView and TalkTalk,  I ask YouView and only get reception who say everyone is in a meeting, I call TalkTalk and all I get is the South Arfican contact centre who say we have no info on YouView we do have a 4k box from Netgem.

If anyone has any info I would be interested to find out what is going on.

Your box, which I gather from your other thread is a 372T box, should continue to receive ITV hub updates. It's first generation boxes such as the 370T TalkTalk box and Humax T1*** series that can no longer support the Hub.

As for what's going on, future plans are not normally revealed as being commercially sensitive to competitors, who have caught up with similar features that made YouView unique in the first place.

If new products are coming soon with TalkTalk why do talk talk not know about it.   If the service will end in 2024 I doubt much investment will come to YouView I hope it does as it was once a great product but has gone stale last 3 years or so.    Is there a future.for youview, I hope so but don't see it.

I am considering getting a Manhattan freeview play box as this now comes with remote record a UK helpline and the guide look similar to YouView with a mining TV screen in the guide just like YouView had on first release but decided to removed it.  If YouView is going to get some improvements I will stay as I like how it neatly puts the recordings neatly in order and groups series via decent tiles with picture and title and works well.  But rest of box is now clunky and slow.

According to Manhattan there is no remote record option yet, certainly not for the T3R which is the only real choice.

Tim C -   Last time I spoke with Manhattan they were in the process of testing a remote record app and this was 3 - 4 months ago, maybe they scrapped it but I will check with them next week and let you know what they are saying.   The Freeview recorder with Manhattan does look good as does the Humax Freeview Recorder (android TV).  But I like how the YouView neatly organises recording in series links by Tiles with pictures and text which makes it neat looking and easy to find the programs you want to watch.   The rest of the service is a little slow and clunky today and no updates on the website, no new menus and just looks a little tired.  This is only my honest opinion without meaning to be disrespectful, just how I feel.

The Manhattan TR3 has 4k ability, unlike YouView-TalkTalk.   The Guide looks very similar to the YouView but has the mini tv in the corner like YouView had before it was removed which looks better with it.   The remote looks slightly better than TalkTalk Youview one.   It is very similar to YouView and looks like it is based on the same software - maybe someone from YouView has provided software to Manhattan as it looks virtually identical, also with watchlists.  The service is likely to have a remote record soon I will find out more next week.   If improvements are coming to TalkTalk Youview service obviously I do not want to shell out money £for another box, but if no new improvements come to YouView then Manhattan TR3 looks a good option.  I will also check out the Humax Android recorder for Freeview.   Come on TalkTalk and YouView consumers of the service are getting bored of no answers,  what is going on? Manhattan offers technical support whereas YouView has shut theirs and TalkTalk use too many outsourced contact centres that know very little about the product.

    Manhattan's response today:-
I hate to make excuses but because of the chipset shortages that are affecting every industry we've had to integrate our software onto a new chipset and that's taking all of our resources. The silver lining is that the T3-R will be getting an update later this year and remote recording will come too, but it's going to be a while longer.

The T3-R actually does not have the mini TV in the corner of the guide (much to my disappointment); this in fact merely shows a thumbnail from the selected show (as per the recording tiles on YouView). As with YouView, the guide is semi-transparent with the TV visible behind/through it.

I actually feel the T3-R a little more dated and surprisingly find myself missing the tiles of YouView (as much as I hated them to start with). The one thing in its favour is that for now at least it's fast and responds instantly rather than the sluggish mess that YouView has become with recent updates.

No new Youview products with TalkTalk im told by TalkTalk they purchased origin broadband out of administration, took on their NetGem boxes. This was mentioned by a senior CEO staff member. We are a broadband company and focusing on faster fibre and full fibre and moving away from TV, our 4k boxes via Netgem are a token add on I we as told.    We are not offering the YouView boxes to be customers the boxes are slow and we are not investing into new Youview products, we offer 4k box with Netgem as we acquired them from Origin Broadband taking over their services but keeping the name origin, TalkTalk have deals with Now TV as additional basic services to temp people to get Broadband, but the Youview is ending it's service with new customers for their version of YouView i am told.  According to TalkTalk 1.6.22

Youview although still good and the BT Youview boxes have been the best and most reliable boxes I have had. Youview has been starting  to look a little bit outdated in terms of software for a while now. Compared to the likes of Sky Q and the Amazon Firesticks but I have never heard that Youview is coming to an end and winding down.

TIME4TV  You are a troll who WANTS YouView to fail. Though I don't know why and never will.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

Just bought a Manhattan T3-R to replace my TalkTalk Huawei box that was dying. Super impressed really really quick compared to the YouView box. The remote record function will be great if it ever arrives. Just upgraded to 2.04 and no sign of remote record yet. I did use that feature with Youview so if Manhattan add it that will be great.

TalkTalk said they had listened to the customers regarding replacing the Youview box with a 4K streamer. Utter codswollop. The main reason for having a set top box is to pause/rewind and record. Strange that both BT and Virgin still offer these types of box but TalkTalk think they know better. It’s all about cost cutting with TT I guess, as they are £1 billion in debt.

Looked at every alternative for recording tv but the only one that seems to work for me is a BT TV box. It’s a bit slow but once it gets going it’s alright. My main ‘need’ is remote recording and the BT box is fine for that. Every other box seems to be lacking in one respect or another.
if the BT box becomes unusable then I will go back to my 2012 Panasonic recorder. It works OK but you have to turn on the box and go to it to set a recording. A bit of a pain but it’s usable. Failing that the only one left is an expensive Panasonic which I think is a 2016 model, the 850 I think but never updated.
