Box update turns TV on?

Both I and my son in law had our TVs switch on during the early hours of the morning this week.

I had not used my DN372T box that evening but when I came down the TV had switched to the boxes input and was on.

Was there an update that triggered the box to switch on? Should it do this or update silently?

This is not the first time this has happened but to happen to 2 households this week, and both having 372T boxes seems too much of a coincidence.

Have you and your son-in-law got similar TVs?
Did the phantom switch-ons occur in the early hours of the same morning?
We had a Samsung TV that used to come on by itself. I blamed the boxes attached to the TV by HDMI because I couldn't think of any other possibility.
The TV has now been replaced by a Sony. It has got the same boxes attached by HDMI. It doesn't come on by itself. Perhaps the Samsung TV was to blame?

I've an LG and he a Bush.
I had this early on when the tV was new.
I only spotted it as I got up and saw a light from downstairs. When I checked Blink motion detector it registered when the TV came on and there is a definite picture on the TV. This could only be from the TV tuner as the box would have been in deep sleep
When I went downstairs it has switched to TalkTalk input and showing no signal, so the box was then off.

    It's weird, isn't it?
It it gave us the creeps the first time ours did it. We woke up at about 2am with the sound of voices downstairs. :#

I did experience similar a few years back with a Samsung TV and one of the BT TV Humax boxes. After it occurred  2 or 3  nights I unplugged the HDMI from the Youview box before retiring for the night. After 10 days or so left the HDMI connected overnight and didn’t experience issue again.

I wonder if the problem is something to do with the HDMI connection, rather than with the connected devices?
The reason that I got rid of the Samsung TV was that I couldn't get the third HDMI socket to connect reliably. I tried several HDMI leads and none of their plugs would make a secure connection. They were all a bit loose in the socket. The connection would work for a while, but then strange things would happen. The main issue was random volume changes. In the end I gave the TV to a family member who didn't want to use all three HDMI sockets.

Happened again last night and was going to attach a video but file format is not allowed.

However it is definitely the TalkTalk 372T that is causing the issue as I've been turning the TV off whilst on the TV tuner and this morning the input is set to this box.

Tried the various suggestions but it's happened again so it's either updating or checking for an update, either way I understood these were silent checks and didn't involve the box turning on.

The camera shows the time as 00:43 in case anyone wishes to check the logs

The box probably checks for updates every night.
Have you tried plugging it into a different HDMI socket?

Yes, I'm sure it checks daily, and possibly occurs more often than I catch it. I have swapped HDMI cables and inputs (my T2000 is in the other free non arc socket).

I first reported this to TalkTalk in 2019 and this is a different box to that that was causing the issue then, that box now like a certain parrot. Same model though and the same as my son in laws.
