ITVX live stream

I have a Sony TV which includes Youview.  On this set ITVX is provided through Youview but the ITVX homescreen does not allow me to live stream ITV programmes.  This functionality works if viewed via other platforms such as Sky Q.  When will full functionality be available?

This is down to ITV as the app provider. Different platforms have different functions and live stream is often one that is missing.

You would be best asking ITV the question as your TV is only the delivery method used to provide their app.

    @KevinJH

Greetings, and welcome to the Community!

In general, apps on devices that can livestream over the air tend not to include live over the internet - I have this same omission on my 3 LG TVs.

Though the two Samsungs we own that could be upgraded to have itvX do have Live. So, one exception among the big three manufacturers.

The other two (2015 and earlier) don’t even have itv any more, though this is true of other apps, so both sport a RokuStick or Firestick, both of which have itvX, and with Live.

Accordingly, I don’t think your TV is waiting to get Live on itvX - I think you have all that’s coming. itvX is still rolling out to Sony TVs though, and it looks like it’s coming to all the Android sets now:-

    (Expand Supported and Unsupported).

Initially, it looked like whole ranges of Sony sets weren’t going to get it, including some quite recent ones, as at January 2023. But now it’s rolling out across all of them, I think, back as far as 2015 when Android TVs started. Note that the link above still says some Android sets aren’t supported, but hopefully they are, as of a couple of days ago.

Though whether the first announcement was just bad PR, or Sony decided they didn’t want to be crucified again and did some hasty behind-the-scenes foot-shuffling, I don’t know 😛

But YouView have said they don’t have any jurisdiction over what itvX supply, and Sony may say the same. So if you want Live on the itvX on your Sony TV, you need to lobby itv for it.

I’m a bit sceptical of this, though 😢

I am still awaiting the  expected live  and Fast channels on the ITV app  on the BT TV Pro box.  Would be good if ITV or Youview would update on progress .

May be an ITVX delivery issue but if Youview negotiates with them I am sure that they will deliver.  A contract issue that needs to be resolved for the benefit of Youview/BT customers.

Said it before and I'll say it again..it's a mistake to rely on any youview box for streaming.
I have two pro boxes but roku is my go to for streaming.
Incidentally itv x has worked perfectly (including live streams) from day one on the Roku.
Having said that now having the luxury of bathing in glorious FTTP ( average speed over WiFi 420 mbps) I now find myself using my pro box as a pvr declining.
If as forecast roku offer all freeview content over WiFi I can see myself switching entirely to a dedicated streamer.

Its probably also a question of the spec of the various devices that can deliver ITVX for ITV.

Given the number of complaints ITV got regarding the Hub failures, they are probably playing is cautiously and delivering what they know will work rather than overloading devices and having failures.

We've already seen ITV stating they can't deliver the app to older models of boxes and TV (much in the same way as BBC, Now and Prime have done) so getting something that works as opposed to a full blown app is probably the right thing to do.

And if you are thinking that YouView or Sony need to amend their spec to accommodate the App, then we have also seen that older YouView boxes now receive no updates as they cannot run the latest software on later boxes.

As @Roy has said, my TV which has the new App does not have live TV. Nor does TalkTalk 's 4k box.

If you want the live channels then I agree with @kodikid a Roku or Firestick is probably your best bet.

Damn, I just spent £140 running an aerial cable into the utility room because we got fed up of waiting for something like that 😢

Have you got a link or links to where this is being talked about?

For people who live within the reception range of a Freeview transmitter, what is the advantage of watching live Freeview channels via an app on a TV or Freeview receiver, rather than watching using an aerial and the receiver's tuner?

edit - @kodikid and @Roy have mentioned one reason.
    Any more?

Obviously the main reason  is accessing 4K content but
also convenience, my backroom tv dosnt have an ariel so to watch live TV I have to access each app individually (I player for BBC All 4 for channel 4/film 4 etc).
Be great to have the same set up as the pro box subscribers, namely all the channels in one place.

The convenience of WiFi is important.
Freeview channels in 4K can't be far off. Possibly on broadcast TV as well as online:
