Huawei DN360T will not update

IanHIanH Member Posts: 6
Hi everybody, I've got a TalkTalk DN360T that is still on its original firmware, but it will not update at all, I've tried in the settings, and it gets to 50% say its has encountered an error, please try later.
But trying later just goes back to the error message, i have also tried resetting the box to default in the menu, and tried resetting to default in maintenance mode.
Is there anyway i can download the firmware to a usb stick and update it manually, there is the option to do this in maintenance mode, but i can't find a download link.
I am on virgin media, but the device is on the network and has ip and dns addresses.
Many thanks for your time.
Ian

There is no option to update via usb, even though it may say so, as software is not available this way.

Providing you are connected to the internet, doing a full factory reset will search for and download the latest available update.

If that is failing then there is, I believe, nothing that can be done to force this.

Is the box malfunctioning in some way? If not probably best to continue using the box as is and hope it updates overnight when the next update appears.

These boxes are now no longer provided by TalkTalk, but as you are now with Virgin, they would be unable to provide support.

Hi, thanks for the comments. The box is brand new still completely original even has the sticky plastic still on the remote! None of the players work as i think there too old and it cant find any of the original servers.
It'll be such a shame to have to skip it and add to more ewaste just because it wont update, seems totally crazy the firmware isn't available to download an update manually.
    Thanks again.

    https://support.youview.com/youview-box/box-and-remote/

Not everything there applies, as it is for a later box where YouView is more of an app, but much of it is still relevant to your DN360T.

However, though technically never superseded, this is a very old box, with, according to Which? a terrible reliability record, and it can’t record, like the DN372T can; so I hope you found it somewhere, rather than having recently bought it.

Does anybody know why the firmware isn't available? It just seems daft  for it to not be. I guessing its just going to be more e-waste and such a shame to bin a good unit.
Do you think Huwei would be able to help?

The firmware has never been available as the boxes are designed to be updated overnight.
Boxes are updated in phases, so if you are looking at the latest firmware available, it may be that the rollout has yet to reach your box.

    What firmware are you running?

I’m wondering what you are hoping to achieve with this box?

It can’t record, and the apps on it will be slow and limited compared with those on a Smart TV, not to mention those on a Roku or Firestick streamer.

Pause and Rewind live TV? Pick programmes on the 7-day backward EPG? Use the integrated Search?

But I’m not sure what the box will and won’t do now? The apps are out of date, sure, and I take it you have tried an app update, a separate option from the system update?

Which, as the box attempts the latter, must mean the box has detected an available update, and is trying to download and install it, but is failing.

Which probably means that even if you did have access to a USB update (something really only used in development, and not customer-facing), you might well get the same issue anyway.

As @Stevef_fr8ys says, if you can’t get it through a Factory Reset/Maintenance Mode Option 5, then it’s bricked, and won’t work again.

When you can pick up a working and more recent recording YouView box from CeX for £40/£50, there’s not much point in flogging this dead horse.

Though if you have your heart set on a DN-360T, CeX will do you a working one for £12 😛

I was just trying to save it form going in the bin and trying to not have more e-waste, and it doesn't use much power, so would be cheaper to run the streaming things with my pc.
Just seems a shame to bin things when it only a software issue, especially when your supposed to have the right to repair things an stuff.
In the bin it goes, thanks for replys.
    Cheers

It probably won’t make you feel any better about it, but I doubt if it was a software issue - I think it was hardware.

one last ditch effort, dont suppose anybody knows what port they are using for data or streaming, was thinking of opening the ports see if anything happened, with me now been on virgin they may be blocking I've had a search but there seems to be very little information about them.
Your probably right it could well be a hardware issue! But its something to play with!

    Thanks again

If you suspect this is a Virgin problem - though you have to ask yourself if so, why there aren’t many more reports of this? - find a friend or family member on an ISP that isn’t Virgin, tote the box round there and try it.
