It is an Amazon.com subsidiary, and operates the LoveFilm website, as well as providing outsourced website and delivery infrastructure for other British companies.

Don't hold your breath waiting for NetFlix on YV. Netflix uses the Microsoft proprietary silverlight facility which is not available for linux. Neither it is likely to be in the near future. This has been the subject of many complaints to NetFlix. As a NetFlix subscriber, try to watch a NetFlix film on your PC running linux. You won't be able to. My approach is to watch NetFlix via a PS3. We were using the wii but it was rubbish so we bought a PS3 instead to do the same job and got a free blu-ray player into the bargain!

Netflix is on Apple TV and iPhone/iPad. I'd be very surprised if it uses Silverlight on either of those platforms.

Why did this topic get so off topic it should just be a question about if Love Film Instant and Netflix Instant will appear on YouView and the answer at present is No as these two companies would have to supply it in a correct formula to work on YouView and they must then also become a YouView content provider, both of which they will not spend money on until they think there is a big enough take up of the platform to make it worth while for them.
Forget silly arguments about Apple having it why not us, as they have a big enough user base for these companies to be interested in supplying there product on it's platform.
Just hope our user base grows fast in the next 6 months and that they will become interested in porting there product to the YouView platform.

It's a bit like that around here!

Lovefilm were part of YouView's on demand core advisory group:

    https://industry.youview.com/pages/co...

So I wouldn't be too sure that they won't join the platform or that they're unwilling to spend money on developing a Player app.

I dough very much that Netflix will ever be available as an app on You View Box because I read it cost £70m to get Youview up ruining , £10m of which came directly from taxpayers’ money via the TV license fee!

Netflix is American based where Love Film is based in England so we would get the Love flim pay as you go app .

We only got "SKY Now TV app " because YouView is in partnership with BSkyB .

I can get get Sky sports on my TV Plus box as I am with TalkTALK but would have to pay TalkTalk for it.

I think this is where the thread went off into the weeds, it maybe that it took £70m to plan and build the software and services we have in out Humax T1000 boxes. But to develop an additional application, to run on all the boxes we now have, is not going to cost another £70m. Amazon/Netflix and the like already have streaming services, to create a client for our boxes is probably a 6 month task for the right person with the right skills. So just over £100K maybe.

True, though worth pointing out that it's the content provider who builds the Player, not YouView.

Here are the people who designed the 4oD Player:

Hey! Have you seen this new Netflix service? (link courtesy of a DS poster) -

"Streaming 3D and Super HD video comes to Netflix customers whose ISPs will play ball."

The NowTV free trial is definitely worth it lol

I tried it out on my Roku box, and it was generally good but performed strangely at times.

My Roku has never failed me in streaming NetFlix HD movies on my 6Mbps connection. Can't ever remember it buffering.

My experience with NowTV, seemed to be a dynamic altering of the resolution of what I was watching, depending upon, what I can only presume, was demand on their service.

This ranged from crystal clear high-def, right down to seriously fuzzy and blocky picture reception. Often changing during the movie I was watching.

It really spoiled the experience for me. I think i'd have preferred buffering to be honest.

With YouView, NowTV subscription seems better value than Movie Boost. They're both £15/month, and don't hold you to a contract. But NowTV has the advantage of being available to 2 other devices, and all the movies are available on-demand too.

In my experience of these competing services, it seems like there's a lot of deals going on behind the scenes, and users seem to always just get the, "we're talking to potential new providers all the time", story. When the reality is often different.

I bought a Roku box 12 months ago. When they launched here in the UK. It came with a hot-key to NetFlix on the remote. It coincided with the time NetFlix were launching here to. So apparently, Roku were in bed with NetFlix on this one. And probably subsidised every box with a NetFlix button that sold.

Roku, in the UK, are very much in with SKY TV. So almost just after launch of Now TV, their Now TV app was soon to follow.

Roku launched in the UK with lots of talk about LoveFilm, 4OD etc., but I doubt that they'd even allow LoveFilm to launch a channel on it. As their partners have got subscription demand covered, with a cheaper older movie, and a more expensive newer movie service now available.

The priority to providing customers with what they want, seems to come secondary to whatever deals are going on behind closed doors.

Fortunately, last year I got a £70 LG Blu-ray player that has LoveFilm Instant, NetFlix, BlinkBox and AceTrax Movies on it's Smart TV interface. So all the bases I need are covered.

    LoveFilm? An Android app? Where?

Their only official app is one that you can amend your movies by post rental list with. NetFlix has their own official Droid app. But, currently, LoveFilm don't have a player.

Get an AppleTV box is dose all the above including NETFLIX and is only £99 or less.

I got a £70 LG BluRay player that plays LoveFilm, NetFlix, BlinkBox, AceTrax, and more AND plays BluRay and DVDs.

Why would anyone buy Apple TV only on that justification?

Most LoveFilm branding is accompanied with their Amazon credentials.

Amazon used to have a streaming rental service called Amazon Instant. I'm unsure as to the timing, but they may have bought LoveFilm and then bolted their instant service to it, or LoveFilm developed their service then Amazon bought it.

    Either way, LoveFilm is Amazon.

On Andrews' point about MS Silverlight. I have an LG BluRay player, with LoveFilm on it. Not sure if the player is Linux based but a lot of them are. It's certainly not running any MS platform.

Anyway, it does seem that they are ways round it. Perhaps there is a non-Silverlight LoveFilm server for other devices perhaps.

Now TV is worth it for the free trail but TBH it's not very impressive. Tried it on the Xbox version and got free MS points at the same time - old films, clunky interface (although that could be because of the design limitations imposed on all Xbox dashboard apps), fuzzy playback that became clear after 5-10 secs and pricey for what they want to charge every month.

Yes, basically the stuff they show on the movie channels (not box office) is included in the subscription. Newly released movies which have just come out on DVD were part of their 'Pay and Play' I.e. pay per view, which is the only bit I was interested in, and the bit that they pulled. SO glad I found the link to sign up *without* the subscription which they seemed to take great pains to hide when it first came out.

Who is this Margaret person - can she be removed from the Forum membership? I can just sense typical Forum arguments coming from someone like this.

Clearly not someone from the original helpful bunch of people!

I think she is simply somebody who had a misunderstanding of the various uses of the term 'partner', and held on to it when others stated the opposite with slightly too much zeal, as we can all be tempted to do. I feel the whole exchange could have been much shorter & more amicable if whoever involved had rather than butting horns, instead come alongside her and explained politely that while she may see the term 'partner' mentioned on several websites, in context this means a different thing to a full company partner. I agree with what was said, by the regular posters.. (and I don't mean to single any one person out) but sometimes it's not what is said, but how it is said.

I agree. I've currently got BT Vision which is good but the selection of films is very poor. I'd love to ditch the BT box and switch to YouView but I need Netflix or LoveFilm before I do. Come on YouView!!

Just got You view after being with Free sat and Sky, found it to be great, Netflix and Love film would sit nicely on this platform and give even more choice and bring customer's. I currently watch both on Xbox as an addition to Youview it makes for a powerful combination.

Regarding your query, as of the moment, we do not have plans to incorporate blinkbox to YouView platform. We have plan to add more devices in the future but unfortunately, we are not able to provide specific information about the availability of our services on these devices. For a list of supported devices, Kindly refer to this link http://www.blinkbox.com/Devices

Thank you for your interest in our Watch on TV service. At the moment the service is only available on a limited number of devices but we are working to extend this as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the service is not currently available via 'YouView'. We will, of course, let you know when the situation changes.

In the meantime, if you are interested in other ways to enjoy our LOVEFiLM Instant service please visit http://www.lovefilm.com/micro/getconn... which will tell you how you can connect your pc directly to your existing TV.

We hope this information is useful.

    Dear Nick,

Thank you for your email regarding your queries of our service. Please accept my apologies if we were unable to provide as much information as you were hoping for.

Whilst it would be of benefit to us and our customers to be able to provide the additional services you described in your initial email, we would not wish to provide you with this expectation without good reason. Unfortunately we are not currently aware of any plans to make these changes, which is why the information you have received is admittedly vague.

I appreciate that the information is not particularly helpful. I sincerely hope that we are able to make some changes in the future, that will allow you to make full use of our service.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Phoned their 24/7 helpline on 0800-0966379. As they are an American company they were not aware of the Youview platform according to the guy I talked to.
They were really appreciated of the heads up about the platform and will forward it onto their new development team. It's anyone's guess when it will come onto Youview but I got a favourable response - more than the other two...

Those responses mean nothing. Lovefilm could be ready to launch tomorrow and they would not have told you this unless they were ready to properly announce it.

Just to be clear, I am not saying Lovefilm will launch tomorrow :)

I know, basically we should just take what they say with a pinch of salt bud - just thought I'd test the water and see what they all said.

I have just bought a Sony blu ray that has Netflix/Lovefilm/Youtube, works well alongside my Youview box,....... but it would send the platform through the roof if it had those three, Blink box which is very good and the big one BT SPORTS !!!!!!! when it launches, and if so please also give it to your customer's who have normal broadband and not just infinity.
