Yes Martin does have a YouView box which I believe he purchased when they were first released.

That explains it. There was a miscalculation in the Thorium levels in the first boxes.

Keith, you are like the forum "daddy." One of the things we do know about Martin is that he has a YouView box. So why did you feel obliged to make that comment? Genuine question, please don't take it any other way.

But do we know or do we only have his word for it? It's been noted before that he never has any of the problems with it that we have.

I think he's the same guy that used to frequent the Reciva forums = multiple IDs; quite well informed; rude; fun to bait when you got the hang of it.

I was responding to Keith's comments, not yours. I think it is past your attention span.

Hi redchiz - I was simply answering the question by majones (to which my reply was a comment) that asks if Martin has a YouView box. I of course know the regulars here know Martin has a YouView box but not everyone will know that ;-)

Can I suggest that nothing useful will be achieved by continuing this thread, and we should all consider it closed. Sorry to say this, but it is just 'deja vue' happening all over again. No doubt it will be reviewed by YouView when they are back in on Monday, and action will or won't be taken as they see fit.

I am confident Martin has a box (although could not prove it with say a copy of his receipt :) ). Should it really matter though who has a box and who does not, e.g. Visionman does not have a YouView box (as far as I know) yet is very well informed and has brought much useful information to the forum (and will hopefully do so again in the future as I hope he will rejoin the forum in due course).

    Martin

After you were so complimentary to me above, this is hard to write.

But I can't overlook the fact that you monstered Aisha off the forum, and the fallout is causing other people to give up on being here also.

If you trust my judgement at all, please accept that you did this; if you think you didn't, that will do nothing but emphasise my next point.

That you are so sensitive to criticism - often merely imagined by you, and having no objective reality at all - and so insensitive to the feelings of others when you reply angrily to such imagined slights, that you can often have no idea what hurt you are causing.

Visionman - now also gone - posted to the effect that you don't 'get' this forum thingy. And he's right alas - you don't get it, though you might think you do.

Not to go over old ground, except that it is so indicative, is when we were all wincing at the way you were going on in the 'recording adult channels' thread, you were so bemused by this reaction that you asked YouView to adjudicate.

Their verdict should have told you that you can't trust your own judgement, and that hasn't altered since.

I am, as you say, a fairly robust guy, and don't mind crossing swords with the person whose paradoxical nature means that he was both the first person to help me on this forum, and the first to abuse me (that's you by the way, in case you don't recognise yourself).

But not everyone is; and I certainly haven't had - and nor would I stand for - the drubbing you gave Aisha.

So, for the good of the forum, would you please consider giving it a rest for a bit - assuming you aren't anyway asked to leave by YouView, which is or ought to be a real possibility at the moment?

And if and when you feel ready to return, to refrain completely from anything but being endlessly helpful? As when you feel attacked, it is usually illusory; and when you respond, it is almost always overkill. And if you confine yourself to pure helpfulness, no such opportunity for misunderstanding will arise.

    Yours in regret

    Roy

I am fairly confident Visionman was a triallist ..... he made over 500 posts I believe. Most of them courteous, helpful, well thought through and informative. He is a great loss to the forum - sad to see him go.

I have stopped posting on here because of all the backbiting that goes on, and the 'tit for tat' attitude that prevails. It's become a sort of battle about who can get the last word in, or who can bait better than the other, and its childish and unwarranted and more importantly, of little use to any YouView user coming on here to get some help or assistance with a problem.

I still follow all posts, but get tired of the personal arguments that tend to take place. It's a shame that we have lost some really good and helpful posters because of this, and this forum is all the worse for it.

It's about time that YouView did something about it in my opinion.

There was a qman at the trials phase who was very helpful but left around the time the public forum launched, either way though it does not really matter whether a person has a box or not, purely that they obtain the help and support they need or contribute positively to the forum community discussions and reputation. If only Visionman were here he would no doubt confirm when he joined and whether he has a YouView box (not that it is of particular importance) :)

Certainly, Visionman did not have a YouView box not very long ago, even if he got one since, which I don't think he did. He did, though, have a BT Vision box, I believe. He was waiting for YouView to mature before committing to it.

I think you will find they may only return if others disappear - for good.
That's going to be my stance - on Tuesday if nothing positive happens here.

The thing is it can't just be a single case of clamping down. This forum needs to be policed more rigorously.
The statement from Youview that they want to take a hands off approach here I really see as a cost avoidance exercise.
If they want to take that approach its only tolerable if they have nominated Mods with the right powers and in sufficient numbers to police this site.
All we have here is Keith, bless him, who does his best but he is on his own, and no doubt doesn't have those powers anyway.

I await to see what happens, if anything, in the next few days.

Yes, got there. Just looking when you posted.
    Jumped before he was pushed.
Well, there's nothing stopping him setting up another account.
Without proper policing here we will be back to square one again.
    Needs proper policing as below.
I will still leave on Tuesday unless I see something positive on this front.
Its not about one person going.

Maybe now would be a good time to let this thread rest. I will be sure to communicate directly again with YouView tomorrow about lessons learnt and any (further) actions they should/could take.

As picked up on by Simon above forum moderation is something that does need further consideration. I have no strong desire to personally moderate the forum (can you imagine the potential commenting had I taken decisive action in the last week or past (note I am not saying what action I would have taken or when as that would just rake over what is now in the past) where some would no doubt agree with what I would have done whilst others would not and yet I am technically only another customer no different from anyone else). That said even as far back as the trials process people have proposed that I be given moderation rights which is perhaps more an indication of the fact that there is insufficient forum oversight and curation. The forum has had its difficulties in terms of behaviour which I would hope will be less so going forward yet I would still see a need for more curation and at times some moderation but how that is delivered is something for discussion (I would suggest though not now and not on this topic).

On doing a bit of research I agree with you - leaves me somewhat confused as I know there was a "Visionman" who had a trial box .... I wrongly assumed they were one and the same.
Anyway, Keith, my "qman" was a genuine question - I really don't know what "qman" means, and a Google search left me none the wiser. Perhaps you could expand ...?

qman was the nickname used on the trials forum by one of the trialists and just sprang to mind as a possible confusion between someone called qman and visionman. I think qman closed their Get Satisfaction account after the trials were formally over but before the public forum launched. Without looking in too much detail the last reference I can find to qman is from 29/8/2012.

Thanks, Keith. My mistake. Realise now that you are right and I have mistaken Visionman for another forum member (nothing to gain by saying who..) Apologies for any confusion caused by my confusion, leading to further confusion. Is that all clear now?
