It's just silly as lovefilm box office is already on the box. Cant be that much more effort to add the lovefilm subscriptions too!

Yes love film box office, now TV and talk talk stuff.

Talk talk gave free love film for 12 months out and free you view and hay you cant use it what a cock up.

Now when searching films I get now TV and talk talk stuff before the odd scattering of BBC and very old channel 5. So I wonder if youview gets a bit of the cash from TT and sky. I bet TT will launch love film in Oct as this is when a lot of free love film year subs come to an end and Amazon wants to increase the sub base. If like most cant use the free 12 month sub then its not costing Amazon anything.

Its so annoying that my android phone has more functionality than this box. oh yes we can record on a very small hard drive but not able to network for storage and sharing on other devices puts this 5 years behind the times. I have been looking at HDMI sender so using a netbook or tablet as a big remote and sending anything to the TV.

I do have a use for this box, as a freeview box on a tv in the spare bedroom. But not for long Im replacing my 32inch from the bedroom for a Sony smart TV so wonder what a freeview box does on ebay £4.30?

I recently tried lovefilm on a Sony "smart tv" it required the creation of a Sony account on a computer (even though the tv is connected to the net) then I had to link it up to lovefilm. Where as on an ipad Xbox or ps3 I just enter my email & password.

Then finally after all that you couldn't read the titles because they tried to show about 50 items on the screen at once. Whereas the ps3 is done very nicely.

Anyway what I'm trying to get across is there is a need for a standard for smart tvs. It's all a bit mismashy as its fairly new tech.

This is where youview is pretty good. As they make things look good. My only complaint would be it takes too many steps to reach the on demand page.

Youview would be complete once lovefilm comes to it.

My interface on my smart Sony TV is ok, I dont get as many titles, 6 X 3 but agree that would be better to have less and larger icons, even looking at more info its a bit small,

Even youview is not as good as my sony TV, the EPG is small on a 26 inch. The contrast on the text is no way as good. Its much slower than the TV and I have issues with streaming on the youview box not on the sony tv or PS3

So PS3 is way much better than the youview box. Its a compliment to the smart TV as I can HDMI control it from one remote. Select the PS3 on the tv and it boots up.

Standardsied Smart TV's? Thats never going to happen unfortunately. As they're all scrapping for the same piece of pie.

But the idea of coming up with one 'go to' platform, in a box in the form of YouView is a good idea. Where one can access both free and optional pay-for services for the masses. And it's development should be interesting, as this type of approach has never been tried before.

Why did this topic get so off topic it should just be a question about if Love Film Instant and Netflix Instant will appear on YouView and the answer at present is No as these two companies would have to supply it in a correct formula to work on YouView and they must then also become a YouView content provider, both of which they will not spend money on until they think there is a big enough take up of the platform to make it worth while for them.
Forget silly arguments about Apple having it why not us, as they have a big enough user base for these companies to be interested in supplying there product on it's platform.
Just hope our user base grows fast in the next 6 months and that they will become interested in porting there product to the YouView platform.

It looks like chicken and egg situation. I, for one, am wanting to buy a youview box but NOT until I know it has Lovefilm or equivalent (not Sky's expensive alternative) on board. They will not probably get on board until more people have youview boxes but why spend £300 quid on a box with the ever dangling carrot that it may be coming? If this continues Youview will go the way of other similar box 3view did several years ago. Shame - it was so promising.

YouView isn't going anywhere, not least because two of its backers use it for their paid-for TV product.

Which suggests it could go up a cul de sac on the road to nowhere as the old BT Vision box seems to have done.

Come on YouView, make this happen. I'm sure they only reason Lovefilm is not already on there is due to some deal with sky for NowTV, which is frankly **** and a rip off. I want to be able to stream the very latest movies, not those that are a couple of years old.

    What complete and utter tosh.

YouView is an open platform that anyone can join. And YouView isn't about Sky, its about YouView. YouViews entire concept was designed to fight and stand up to the Premium TV offerings that are out there. And offer a genuine viable alternative too.

Indeed, it would be more of a surprise if both Netflix and Lovefilm DIDN'T appear on the platform.

well to be honest guys this was asked for during the test stage, as I was part of it, and we are still no further forward...

there is no deal between sky and youview, because if there was we'd get a full service and not half the one we currently get for £15 a month, which its just not worth

I dont think that there will be any action on this anytime soon....so perhaps we had all better just buy a smart bluray player or soemthing if thats what you want, because its dragged on for so long that to be honest, ive lost all hope that it will ever appear....a bit like dnla access to stream from your own pc/media server...aint gonna happen

Michael, I don't think that YouView is aimed at users like yourself particularly from what you have said. There are already lots of alternative ways to catch every conceivable service if you are savvy enough, so go ahead and do so if you wish. My take on YouView is that it is trying to address a much broader church and that when - not if - additional services arrive on the platform, then there will be many, many people hitherto oblivious to much of this who will be delighted at the options available.

Hi Michael, Its as churchwarden warden stated here -

    http://community.youview.com/youview/...

And all these new developments will happen this year. And some of them are only a few short months away.

I have talk talk you view pox (yes pox not box)

I have love film box office so no reason why love film instant is not possible.

Now TV and talk talk fill up my search for films and all are pay pay pay.

Talk talk gave free 1 year love film instant and a free you view box and guess what you cant get it.

On streaming side we must complain to trading standards, catch up TV, what a load of ****.
You try to go back to find something but unless its dribble mind numbing daytime rubbish or x factor / corrie there is nothing much else. search films and its full of pay pay pay stuff. Infact +1 or itv2 will show the same **** so this box is so way old my old VHS has more use.

My smart tv is much better at least I can use it for lovefilm instant.

My advice forget this silly box and get a smart tv or PS3. who ever uses it to record and watch channels on. 500GB is pants and it can not be used to stream on other devices.

My advice would be to concentrate on streaming abilities, dump the tuner and hard disc recording if it can not be used on other devices, and minimum of 2000GB. A smaller HDMI device that focuses on streaming is the way forward, including UPNP from other networked devices with its great interface then we will have a winner, which has apps such as love film instant.

I don't know about dumping the tuner, but as regards the suggestion following that, you can't record the adult channels anyway.

lol spat beer over keyboard. I meant disk not dick, did not know you could not record other channels.

I dont think this device is for most people. A scratty netbook sub 100 or even an old HTC desire can do more than this box.

But 2 terabyte? Really? As hard dick drives were never meant or intended to be permanent storage devices.

Agreed, this has been dragging on a while now, it probably will come......at some undisclosed time in the future....maybe. I stopped holding my breath ages ago, especially since I can now watch both on the wii. It would be great if it was on youview and it will be a string to its bow if it does appear

Surely a option to include now tv and (when / if online) Netflix/LF In the search field in settings is a logical step? Unless $ky have paid for their overpriced service to come up?

I'm currently subbed to now tv - they just had a now expired offer of 6months for £15! £2.50 is well worth it - £15, no way! Now tv is rubbish / unwatchable on a ipad/iPhone, but pretty decent on youview - but not as good as Netflix on ps3 in terms of technical quality. In order of technical quality:

    1.Netflix
    2. Lovefilm and now tv (haven tried LF on ipad/iPhone)

I think you guys might be asking in the wrong place; I doubt it's the case that either LoveFilm or Netflix have asked to be on YouView and yet aren't here purely because YV are dragging their heels about it.

Why don't you write to both companies and ask why they aren't on YouView, telling them you would love them to be and that you would subscribe if only they were?

If there is some dark secret as to why they aren't on here, perhaps they will tell you.

Oh, I thought Piers had cleared this up (may have been on the IPTV thread). YouView are first concentrating on getting the live IP channels like BT and Sky Sports into the EPG to make them full trickplay/recordable and then they will be introducing new app services afterwards. I don't know when that will be though.

I didn't say that - or at least I didn't mean to imply that :)

Internet linear channels and On Demand players are 2 completely separate parts of the YouView world. The timescales for adding new TV channels in the TV Guide, and for adding new On Demand players aren't really connected. You'll see new players coming for all boxes this summer - regardless of how long it takes to get internet unicast linear TV channels working for the other ISPs.

    Does this help?
