I have solved this on my box - I've deleted channel 5!
No worries about missing the end of the film. It's not in the EPG so I wont know what I've missed. I'm not seeing any of C5's adverts.
Hi Petkol, I presume it does use the AR system I may be wrong of course but all I know stuff I've recorded from Chennel 5 is OK. Yes it is possible to edit recordings according to the Manual allthough I have not done that yet. I have to say the Manual is a bit brief. The recordings are all done in DR Direct Record format for highest quality and you can set the box to transcode to a lesser quality (a choice of 9) if you want to archive to DVD or Blu-ray. Streaming to my Panny Tv works a treat as the box is connected to my Samsung ES8000 via my Pioneer Amp. BBC HD will not stream to my PC due to content protection but you can convert to HG format and burn to disc. I've burnt the last 2 F1 qualifiers + races to disc, all conversions can be set to happen while the box is in standby. I hope this helps. ps There is the Option to add padding of recordings but not used it yet.

Your welcome petkol I,m always wary of so called "Reviews" often they are merely cobbled together by a cursory glance at the product and marketing hype from the manufacturers. This misinformation then ends up being filtered down into spec sheets used by advertisers/retailers.
"While waiting for the seemingly utopian solution of every broadcaster doing everything they should for every programme they broadcast, the Youview pvr should provide the user with a way to compensate for the broadcasters' inadequacies."
Exactly which is why many of us are asking for the abilitry to pad or manually set the recorder. Padding was one of the first complaints made during the trial period and despite a couple of updates it is still missing.
Their AR signals run strictly by the times show in the EPG and take no heed of late or early running. They sometime even miss out one of those and you end up with a recording containing the following programme as well.

It's not just that their EPG doesn't allow for late or early running; it often doesn't even allow for a time slot sufficient to show the programme in question. To note, the 6pm weekday slot, which runs from 6pm to 6:55 on the EPG, but contains a show generally lasting 57-58 minutes.

I can visualize the Excel spreadsheet that manages the TC LOL
Martin - thanks, and yes you're right - we do talk to all our partners on a regular basis about a number of issues (including this one).
Everyone - this problem does affect a lot of Freeview+ boxes (even those with padding sometimes), as well as YouView boxes but there's not a quick fix that we know of. If anything can be done, we'll let you know here.
Jesse's post may not have explained the situation fully Apologies for the inconvenience.
it does not make sense why YouView do not add padding, the rubbish freetime freesat has it as does virgin and sky and many freeview HD+ boxes apart from this issue most of youview is great to-date
Having just encountered this same problem. Film recording cut short by 5 mins! i have set on a quest for a solution.
Old Humax freeview PVR (much loved) solved this by enabling the user to set an overrun on recordings. Never missed the endings
I am of the opinion that the basic function of a recorder should be to record the complete program. If it does not by design then it is faulty. If no software update addresses this within 30 days of notification to the supplier it is going back.
" We are looking into adding this feature in the future. It will take significant work, so don't expect it immediately, but it's an option we're considering."
Since then there's been no sign that this is coming soon.
If you're seriously looking to return the box i'd suggest doing so in line with your supplier's terms and conditions, and not wait for some arbitrary deadline you've set to pass as you may find you're then out of time.
Is it me or has channel 5 now introduced accurate recording? Over the last couple of days the programmes I have recorded on 5 have started at the beginning of the programme like they do on BBC &ITV.

If they have, we should all go and buy a lottery ticket because it will be a week of miracles I have to admit that I haven't recorded much on 5 recently, but what I did record was OK. Definitely worth us all keeping an eye on it.

We're working closely with Channel 5 at the moment and we're very glad to hear that people have noticed an improvement. We'll post more information as soon as we have it.

Sounds like the naysayers were wrong when they repeatedly insisted YouView wouldn't be able to affect a change at Channel 5 and that padding was the only way forward.

Or has DD sold his Huawei and got a Humax box? David, who made your box? As there does seem to be an issue with Huaweis getting AR wrong when Humaxes don't, quite apart from what Channel 5 do or don't do. Or does that issue only apply to ovine programming? ;-)

'ovine programming'
Very good, I thought your spellchecker had corrected 'online' for a moment.
I came across this thread after googling the same issue with Freesat+. I contacted 5 about recordings and keeping program's within the scheduled times. I've recieved a response and as this issue affects us all I thought you may like to see what they had to say.
Dear Michael
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding PVR recording of programmes on our channels.
We were surprised to read about the problems you have experienced recording programmes on Channel 5 as we already closely match the PVR record times with our predicted transmission times on this channel. As is the case with most channels, we do not currently provide ‘live’ or real time synchronisation of our Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). This can result in programmes being cut short if buffers or extensions of PVR recording times are not added to the recordings. As far as we are aware, the majority of PVRs do offer the facility for additional recording minutes to be set at the start and the end of a planned recording. If possible, we advise viewers to add five minutes to the start and the end of recordings in these instances.
Nevertheless, we have noted your remarks for the attention of our Broadcast Services team who are closely monitoring our schedules and working to improve the accuracy of our EPG information. We will be rolling out changes in the next few months that will hopefully improve the recording experience on 5* and 5 USA.
Channel 5 now has accurate recording, has been working for a couple of weeks now. All programes I have recorded on 5 for that period have started on que. not sure if the same appies to 5 * or 5 usa

No they don't as they have even said they dont use it themselves in the email posted above which is why they recommend users to use padding instead. When they air their program's within the scheduled time then recordings are usually fine, its when they start before or end after the scheduled time is when you'll notice issues.

What has seems to have happened is that they are sticking more closely to their published schedule. Not missed owt on a Five recording here for a while now (very small sample admittedly).

I noticed that The recording of CSI on Channel 5 started about 4 minutes late this week while I was watching something else. Nothing was clipped so it looks like AR is working for me anyway.
