Open letter to YouView management

One of the functions of running a project is to manage the expectations of the customers. Setting up a forum implies a desire to provide the customers with a voice.

Whilst the customers have been doing their part in voicing their views, YouView don't seem to have reciprocated by managing expectations.

Over the past few months there seems to have been a "perfect storm" building on this forum, which seems to be moving towards breaking point.

Do YouView management intend to address this issue, or is it not viewed by them as an issue which needs addressing?

Agreed. Lack of progress can be explained; there may be valid reasons, lack of communication cannot.

Agreed, in the last year progress has been minimal. Dave is the only new on demand player, which has minimal content. Still can't download on demand, still can't record Sky channels.

I was hoping that Youview would enable me to be Sky free, but sadly this appears to be a dream.

Hi guys, we listen to the feedback on the forum and look to implement ideas suggested. It is difficult to confirm planned features and roadmap progress as the delivery times can change with development.

The forums are not just designed as a method of us to deliver product updates, they are mainly here to allow the community to help each other with issues, and discuss the product. We value the support you provide for customers and look to provide feedback on developments where we can.

    Thanks for your answer, Phil.

I take it that's a "no" then - no change ...... or have I misunderstood?

I'd like to know if the sudden appearance of new accessibility features relates in anyway to the conditions that the BBC Trust created regarding the BBCs involvement in the project. As far as I understand it certain measures of "success" for the YV project would be re-evaluated a year after the launch of the service to the public. We are kind of at that point aren't we?

Whilst broadly related to the original question, Geraint - i.e. communication - I think you have asked a different question here, which needs a specific answer related to the "success measures".

Yes you are probably right. Maybe I need a new thread

Keeps things clean, and also you have a valid question to ask, that stands on its own merits.

The truth is, this forum, as indeed are all user forums, are primarily designed to be a pier to pier communication device. For help, advice and information both from and for user to user participation and interaction. Though YouView admin do read the threads, they may not necessarily respond to them.

    And after saying that....

    ITYM 'Piers to Piers' :-)

Certainly, I don't think the amount of time I've been spending on here is merited any longer, and I am now so frustrated by the lack of progress from YouView, and the lack of any forward plan by which to measure that lack of progress, that I could spit.

So I shall take the advice of those who suggest we should enjoy YouView for what it is instead of what it might be, and just watch the damn thing, instead of indulging in endless and fruitless speculation on here, interspersed with trotting out largely the same answers to largely the same questions, for want of a decent sticky FAQ facility in this wholly dysfunctional forum software.

I did have a cunning plan for perhaps getting round this, but I shan't bother now.....

Uh. My bad. I was thinking about Piers, not peers. Like I said, my bad.

I think we all accept that YouView find it "...difficult to confirm planned features and roadmap progress as the delivery times can change with development."

But this does not mean they can't tell us anything.

In the past we've had occasional hints or indications from Piers as to how things are going or what may be planned. These seem to have dried up.
But just a small amount of this kind of information would go a long way towards keeping us involved.

Hi gwatuk, we will always try and give a bit of information where we can on anything planned, it is not always possible to do so however. In future where it is possible to provide more information on upcoming releases and features we will endeavor to though.

    Thanks.

    That's encouraging, Phil.
I suggest that you act on this as soon as possible.
It seems that the forum may have just lost two of its most active contributors - Roy and sam.
