In the announcement there's a list of features that are not yet available.
    This includes "Action Panel".
    What is this?

@Sanj the BT release states the software version :-

The software variant will be : 27.46.0

    Who is correct?

@jimb I could be wrong but I believe the 'Action Panel' is where it let you choose a HD option etc when you were asking to do recordings etc.

Action Panel means the list of actions in the half-screen panel that comes up when you press (i), which is currently only an Info Panel. Equivalent to the list of buttons down the left-hand side of the info panel in the first-gen UI.

Much better than my garbled explanation :-)

Nice one, and the first wave should have it by now.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

Thanks Stephen that is really excellent news.
I've been stressing about this for some time  :-)
And I would have lost my bet.

One of my boxes has been updated.

For some reason it wasn't updating properly, so I did a maintenance reset and it all happened.
This of course then went through the full setup process.
Interestingly when it gets to the channel tuning stage it plays a BT promo video to stop you getting bored.
(I think it's the one featured here: Get ready for your brand-new BT TV experience  )

Another example of how Next-Gen can be customised by the isp.

Hey jimb, that's right, with Next Gen when you go through the initial setup you'll see a welcome video. This is available on TalkTalk, BT and Retail YouView boxes.

Strange that you had to do a Maintenance mode reset. When you say it wasn't updating properly, what were you experiencing?

It appeared to have found that the update was available, but kept saying something like "Download failed please try later."

With this new Next-Gen zapper software I think there's a small change with the progress bar.
The part of the bar to the left of the current programme position - the bit that shows how much is in the buffer - is pink.
    I've not seen that before.
Is this the same with other versions of Next-Gen?

    I think it's a significant improvement.

(I can't believe this. I've been saying nice things about Next-Gen today. I'll try and resume normal service tomorrow.)

Thanks for confirming you've got it, jimb. I don't think this version of YouView is going to get anywhere near the level of attention or forum complaints as its cousin, the T2000s.

What about the pink? I don't think you'll be hauled over the coals for breaking your NDA if you comment on this small detail.

Most versions of next gen are out in the wild now so are you saying talk talk and retail aren't pink ;-)

Hi jimb, I've just checked my retail release T2000 version and yes, the time bars pink too.

    What I'm asking is this.
Do other types of box (with Next-Gen software) have the pink line?

It certainly stands out, but I haven't really thought about it to be honest. Though I'll like it even better when the time jump feature is re-introduced. Thats my number 1 most used feature on a YouView box, as I don't in the main watch live. I record everything to watch at a time of my choosing.
And... whisper this quietly, I can find them all in the tiles too! lol. :)

I tested next gen out today on my old DTR t 2000. I haven't used this box since a got my ultra HD box it was full of dust. I can't understand why people are so critical of it. I suppose people are entitled to there opinion which I accept. I don't have 100 percent perfect vision but during my test I had no problem using it. Next gen is fantastic and in my opinion easier to use then youview classic. I was really sad I had to go back to my ultra HD box but if I didn't I would obviously lose BT sport 4k channel. It really has wet my appetite though. I had zero issues with it and am really looking forward to it coming to my ultra HD box. While I can appreciate some people may not like it for what ever reason I loved it.

Just checking my retail box now, that is not on a BT or TalkTalk line, and the indication of the duration of the live TV buffer on the time/progress bar is YouView blue for me.

Could this be a subtle part of the ISP specific branding such that when on a BT line the default blue here is replaced by pink?

I don't know but that sounds unlikely, as BTs main default color is blue. Is it bright blue so it that it stands out?

No, they did express a fondness for a magenta as a sparsely-used accent colour in their skin. Not there in retail/TT skins, as has been noted.
