Update 27.46 came in without me saying yay/nay which seems a bit off since it's a major change. I miss the box upper left with the channel preview but my major gripe is reserved for the recordings list with those little confusing images and incomplete text. Can I *please* have a simple text list of my recordings. If I had the option I'd revert to the old software simply on this issue. But I don't have the option - see above for installation/imposition without permission. I do like the other features I've seen though - clearer settings options & much better contrast of text to background in listings spring to mind . One difficulty I'm having is that BT player doesn't seem to be working at all - simply "loading..." followed by a blank screen when it's selected. I have BT as ISP but I don't have a subscription to BT tv, which might be the problem. Please keep the updates coming!

Exactly. Different (key) strokes for different folks.

But if YouView sold brassieres, they would all be 36C, and the fastenings would be strange.... :-)
This might at last be getting back to the YouView that I knew.  :|

@Roy - What are you trying to say about the people that fit in with YouView boxes ;-)

That their support options are limited? :-)

Yes nick, all boxes are going to be updated. It looks new and fresh and you'll find the box response times significantly improved as well.

That certainly is one way to avoid it if you don't want it. But you will lose all access to the catch up players. And if you sub to talk talk TV you will lose talk talk player and any boost channels you subscribe to. Another way is to block your boxes access to the internet at certain times though the night and be vigilant during startup as the box will perform a weekly check. But if you do unplug the box your are 100 percent guaranteed it won't get the update by accident. Obviously the choice is yours. Up to you which way you want to proceed.

Hey Nick, have a look at this help article which covers the options for both old and new software versions:  https://support.youview.com/youview-box/channels/hide-unhide-adult-channels

For what it's worth I was surprised that I found Nextgen not as awful as I thought it would be. Not sure why, maybe it's because it is a little faster and there's finally a repeat function on the navigation keys? But it should not have been released until it could match the old code in terms of functionality.

nick - "...so do i disconnect from the internet..."

    Have a look through this:
    https://community.youview.com/youview/topics/how-to-prevent-your-box-updating-to-next-generation

Best and cheapest option is to use the parental controls on your router to "disconnect" the box from the internet overnight.

the thing is yes i fully understand where people are coming from on the new update some for the update but im getting the instinct feeling that there is more against it and its up to the individual i know but if I dont update will i miss certain things in the future which i should not but you nether know with companies these days but the biggest thing i was worried about was answered by redchiz which im very grateful for like all these answers to my post and i thank you and really appreciate

    Hey, you're very welcome.  :-)

And in my humble opinion the problems are over-stated. Yes, there are some annoying niggles presently, mostly with managing recordings in MyTV. But these are clearly flagged for attention along with other tweaks. I still feel this will be a good product going forward.

Maybe it was because you were kind-of pre-prepped, with you already having Sky Q, which uses the same lay out?

? Think you must be confusing me with someone else. I've been Youview since the public trial and have never considered Sky

i miss the discovery section and getting inspiration for shows by genre - has that totally disappeared, or am i missing something!

Hi Sophie - the discover feature is indeed currently absent from the next gen software. YouView have however confirmed it will be making a return once they start pushing out feature updates. It would appear that the next gen roll out will be complete in June so one might hope to see the return of channel hiding, discover and action panels some time after that. A top priority to address will also be the poor journeys in and out of MyTV but that may take longer for them to deliver.

ok,  I never use catchup TV (the fact that you can't skip ads is really annoying) so my plan is to unplug from the internet and wait for the fix update to this new recorded programs view.  - I can probably live with the other 'enhancements' but that sounds like it will really ruin my life.  :-(

Yes, seen it. Not sure what your point is there? I'm simply unplugging my broadband cable from the unit.

If you mean permanently that's fine.
But if you plan on doing this every night then you might forget just once and there will be no going back.

Yes, I understand that. I will levae it off the net permanently, until we get a fix for the program view mess.

There's a thread on avoiding the update: https://community.youview.com/youview...

I don't think the update has rolled out to Plusnet customers yet so I'm not able to guarantee that this will work.

Mine's a BT box. No sign of the update yet. Meanwhile, I will just leave it off the net, period.

I'm still not satisfied with this update. All over the place.  As well as all the issues stated, and of course that when a programme is highlighted on the guide, you can't see the title of the next one. My older recordings don't even have a picture, just an empty box. I still prefer the list view.

Then, on using my mobile app to set a recording yesterday, discovering that it had been disconnected from the box after the update. So the I had to reconnect my device to the box.

This update is a disaster. I did not buy my Humax box to be inundated with BT branding. As others have already said the new recorded program list is almost unusable. We should be given the option to revert back.
