Hi d3, could you please clarify what you mean by this?

    "On the upside:
The tiles you can browse at the bottom of the screen for channels/programmes and apps are a nice addition that do add attraction to titles and also ease of access."

I agree, but many people hate this feature. Why? I don't know.
When you first turn the box on the Main mini bar is displayed (I believe YV call this the 'Guide Tiles').
But its actually there for a reason. As its YouView 2.0s central engine, from which one can access everything.
But there is one criticism I wholly agree with and that is that it remains on the screen too long, which is currently 60 seconds (I mean really?) which is far too long. However the YouView team appear to have been highly receptive in regard to the feedback on this and appear to be going to reduce it.
Though if they do, and anyone is still unhappy about it, feed it back.
Though I would suggest a new standalone thread be started, as at the moment users are posting comments here, there and everywhere and so can be very hard to track. Or their voice to be heard.

    • A Fix to ensure pause works correctly on internet channels when attempting to fast forward or rewind.
Is there an option in settings to choose 'icon' or 'list' view, as it previously looked?!

My box has just updated and the guide is much harder to see (as I have vision problems) with the program ghosting behind rather than out of the way in the corner.

The recorded program screen is much harder to read due to multiple pictures.

Is there anyway to remove it?

I Vote List View option too! BT, are you reading this? We are your customers!

I think 30 seconds would be better, what say you? :-)

I like it the way it is and there is ways to get it off the screen sooner. I would like the option to list hd channels there instead of legacy definition channels. And maybe allow the customer to pick at least 2 of there favourite channels to go there.

As previous comments. I'm particularly frustrated with the 'MyTv' section - I just want a list to scroll through not lots of little pictures - it makes it so time consuming to find the program you want. I'm not a child, I don't need a 'picture book version', bring back the list, at least as a choice.

"Frustrated" really doesn't cover it for me. Despite Microsoft's deep enthusiasm for reinventing the wheel, Windows 8 was a major update that I was at least given the CHOICE to reject ! For YouView to force this revolutionary "Next Generation" interface change upon me, with no option to hold back the "upgrade", feels like a violation of my consumer rights. I'm a software tester for my sins, and several years ago I was actually invited to apply for a position with YouView by a friend; I'm REALLY regretting not doing this now as this is simply "enthusiasm for reinventing the wheel" gone mad, with all eyes on a young audience brought up on touch devices and little respect for those of us in your current clientele who don't want to have to learn everything from scratch all over again. And it's poorly tested to boot. For example... (1) Apparently if I unhide the channels I don't ever want to see, I won't ever be able to hide them again! (And, for heaven's sake, there's a typo in the message that tells you this.) (2) On pressing the YouView button on the remote, I've always wanted to go straight to my recordings, not Guide, as the remote already has a separate Guide button if that's what you want; previously there was always an annoying extra button press needed, but now it's TWO extra button presses :o( (3) I can now barely tell locked and unlocked programs apart, so heaven help anyone with problematic eyesight. (4) As soon as you highlight a recorded program, you now see its description, whether you want to or not - SPOILERS!! I previously had to press the "i" button to see this information, which I nearly always CHOSE not to do, but choice is apparently not something that YouView believes in. (5) I'm a bit behind watching a SyFy program I record every day - actually, 30 episodes worth... I used to select the program to view, starting at "page 1" of its episode list, then press "previous page" to go immediately to the oldest recordings on the LAST page, be it page 4 or 5 or whatever; but now I have to scroll tediously through 30 tiles! Funnily enough, I don't want to view the episode that recorded most recently but the one that "comes next" in the series, ie the oldest one. (6) After watching an episode, I used to stop it and then press "delete" straight away; but if I do that now, I'm in danger of deleting all 30 episodes of the complete series! (So much for the default action being the "least surprising"...) I have to re-select the same program and tediously scroll through all 30 tiles all over again to find the one to delete. (7) There's more. A lot more. So, in case there's a vacancy in the test department, I AM available for work ;o)

You need to look for a vacancy in the Design department.

The Test department will have entirely satisfactorily have done its work of ensuring that the software works as designed, as evinced by the rarity of crashes and other glitches in this new software.

This is how come you can reliably scroll back through all 30 of those episodes, which I am sure you will manage every time; it is a Design failing that you should have to do it at all.

These are distinctions that seem to be lost on the understandably annoyed; but like those people blaming Humax, the innocent makers of the hardware for the sins of YouView, perpetrators of the software, it is wrong to point the finger at anyone other than the true culprits.

Quite right - I actually quite like the new look, and it certainly has potential. But as you say, there are a few design glitches that make it irritating to actually use. Particularly when you've just watched the oldest show in a 20-show series, and you have to go back into the show and scroll through all 20 again in order to delete it.

It would be much better if a series in MyTV was displayed in the same way as an on-demand series (oldest episode first). Maybe it will eventually. image

Thanks Martin :o) ...but, re the new look, truncating the titles of recordings because there isn't room in the tile is a backward step for my old-school mentality... When searching for a particular recording, the first thing that comes to my mind is "how long ago did I record this?" (lists are helpful, but grids of tiles are not) and sometimes I'd have to sort them A-Z, which is no longer possible! But Roy, you're right, I suppose most companies don't give testers a free hand to comment on usability, analyse "user errors", play devil's advocate, suggest alternatives, influence designs and copy-edit the on-screen text, the way my last employers did for me. I guess I was pretty lucky there, and you've reminded me that I really need to update my job title :o)

Anybody touches my design, and it's theirs to support for ever more :-)

Anybody feeds back on my design, from their own perspective, or from user feedback, I will gravely consider what the feedback is, and perhaps modify the next release accordingly.

But not the one currently in testing; unless the testers show that it actually breaks the functionality, the design stands.

So you may well have been lucky in your last job, but I would have politely declined to be a software designer there :-)

I saw a suggestion on here earlier that (I thought) made an awful lot of sense, afraid I don't know the name of the person who originally suggested it. But - how about when viewing a series link recording, having the GUI present the shows in reverse date order? This would save an awful of scrolling since obviously most series links will be viewed oldest first so it makes sense to present the oldest show first to the users, instead of last.

    Martin

How about the episodes in the series stay in chronological order - thus continuing to exhibit the same presentation logic as the Recordings screen itself - but that the focus when you enter a Series Tile shifts to the oldest (I.e. first) episode present?

That, to me, would be the ideal - and I would have thought, fairly simple to implement - fix here.

OK I've got a really crazy idea... just roll with me on this one...

On a thread thats 3 pages long and with multiple comments on it, if anyone wants to see their comments heard, how about posting on the last page of the thread? And, get this, which is even more crazy, actually post at the bottom of the last page on the thread and not in the middle of it?
I know that seems really radical but hey, just call me crazy.
    Almost like NextGen.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

Skiller - I never saw that one, and never saw it reported. I take it the gaps represent Scheduled programmes whose tile is not being displayed, rather than just arbitrary, but empty, gaps between populated tiles?

But I would class these as a bug, not as a design failure; it is to me extremely unlikely that it would have been designed to look like this.

(But then so are several of the things that it has been designed to look like, so what do I know?)

I have, though, seen blank tiles, albeit with text shown, when a series recording is set from the iOS or Android app; this harks back to the pair of schedule entries you used to initially get for a Series on CurrentGen. This is now eliminated on CurrentGen for series recordings set from the box, but not, it seems, from app-set ones.

This is the sort of thing that would be deemed to be breaking the design intent though not the functionality, and left to be fixed in the next release,

First off I note at the top of the page "Note: This update doesn't have any new features but has a few minor bug fixes included." yet was the is the one with the new interface? If it is, sorry but I really don't like it.  There is a time and a place for tiles and in this case I'd say not for my recordings, it's ok to just have a listgrid view sometimes - I just can't see what this new format brings to the party.  Its just a bit noisy on screen to take in all the info I need re: programme names, dates, watched, etc.  As with some other comments I totally agree about the deleting after watching issue.

This is my first post and hope my last, but it's really frustrated me - sorry.

Hi Claire don't be a stranger all are welcome here except spammers. I'm a user of this equipment such as yourself. I like next generation software but i do think a few minor tweaks are needed with the recording journey. Unfortunately your not the first person to complain and youview continued the rollout which makes it obvious next generation is staying hopefully in future some parts of next generation are changed to make it more to everyone's liking but it looks like the tiles are here to stay.
