Oh my goodness I really hate the new tiles for the recordings.

I have got a lot of recordings and trying to navigate round the tiles is driving me nuts already. I found the previous list function easy to navigate and use. If some people like the tiles and some people hate them, why can we not have a list function kept as an option?
With a recording in the list function it was possible to take the recording forward in chunks so for example if I had a sports recording and I knew kick off wouldn't be for about 30 minutes from the start of the programme I could take it forward that far in a second. Now I have to go into the actual recording and move it forward on screen. So that's one function I miss.
I am finding programmes hard to find in the recordings and the lack of a delete function at the end of playing a recording is a very poor oversight, requiring the user to have to go back into the tiles and locate the programme again.
The blue guide screen I find difficult and uncomfortable to use due to the colour and the transparency (and I really miss the little TV on the top right, that was a great feature in the previous versions).
I just went to record a programme this evening but it tells me I will have to cancel a recording as there will be too many recording at the same time. . So back I went into those darned tiles, find the 2 programmes recording, but the information for programmes actively recording doesn't tell me the time period that the recording of each programme will go on for. It just states the start time (the previous version mentioned the start and end time). This is very unhelpful and I now have to go back into the guide to find out the time and work out what is overlapping when. While I am doing this it is uncomfortable because of the blue/teal background.

Trying to find something positive - the 14 days of the guide is good. When clicking on 'guide' it comes up with what is 'on now' for  10 of the main free channels.

Please, someone tell me how go back to the previous version. BT/You View please provide an additional list function for recording/scheduled recordings.

No worries haha. I've always found the inconsistencies odd in how programme info is displayed, surprised this still continues.

My box has just updated and the guide is much harder to see (as I have vision problems) with the program ghosting behind rather than out of the way in the corner.

The recorded program screen is much harder to read due to multiple pictures.

Is there anyway to remove it?

It out should be able to choose tiles or list, we don't all view the world the same way!

    Hi Daniel

Think of ways in which you might be wrong there.....

    Hi Roy.

Obviously BT are a partner/shareholder. Maybe they could have asked to delay rollout. But that's it as far as I can see I'm happy to be corrected however.

I would be complaining if rollout was delayed I will admit. However in the grand scheme of things I am just one customer.

I'm certain BT would not exactly admit or take any blame for next gen however.

You can remove it by going into settings and whilst you can't immediately see it, there is a box further down which is "appearance" - you can then change it so you don't see the ghost behind.  The rest of the new system is HORRENDOUS.

I'm afraid I'm not at all impressed with the update. The inclusion of pictures makes the "My TV" recordings and schedule harder to read than the previous text based model and in my opinion adds nothing to the layout at all. After watching a recorded program (one that is part of a group of recordings) I press stop but I no longer get the option to delete, I have to go back into the group and scroll back to the program just watched in order to delete it. As you press stop you are immediately thrown back to the most recent program in the group which I fear may mean the wrong item could be deleted. As far as I can tell the option to record a program or edit the recording from the info screen has also been removed, I found that function very useful as I use a none standard one for all remote.

The only good thing I've found so far is the extension to the guide now being 14 days instead of 7 but I'm afraid with what I consider to be the drawbacks this update gets an overall thumbs down I'm afraid.

I couldn't agree more.  I have written several emails asking for the old way to be reinstated.

    Hi Manfred,

The information you see in the guide is delivered to you through the internet. It's known as 'Enhanced metadata'. If you were not connected to the internet you would see 'DTT metadata' which is the programme information displayed to your through your aerial.

At the moment we don't store enhanced metadata in your recordings, we simply store the DTT metadata. Some more work is required for us to save the enhanced metadata in your recordings. This is something that we are planning for the future.

Was referring more to the how the programme info changes in different areas, e.g. in the guide as opposed to MyTv as described earlier but useful info :-)

This is my first experience of NextGen having had my T1000 updated a few hours ago.

I can't comment on the good/bad UI as I haven't had enough usage of it yet, but I would like to make one major comment.

Since the update, whenever I attempt to load any online player, such as BBC iPlayer or the BT Player, I get the "Loading" screen for about 1-2 seconds, then it goes back to the live TV channel I was previously watching.

I have done the usual resets - router reboot (it's Ethernet-connected) and box 8-second reboot.

Please how do you do the Maintenance Mode 4 reset? Like most people all players work apart from iplayer an itv. We only updated our box last night.

Very disappointed in this update. I've been given YouView for a year by PlusNet; suffice to say I won't be keeping it if I have to pay. This has to be the worst usability update I've ever seen - and I've used Windows Vista!

Windows 8...::.? Wasn't that the the infantile picture based OS that replaced the perfectly acceptable and well liked Windows 7? Wasn't it loved by the under five 'emperor clothes' brigade that think anything new and funky is cool, hated by 80% of normal users? I'm sensing a theme here....

I still recall MS managing to do a really good impersonation of a man with his fingers in his ears going 'la, la, la' for the first year. They insisted nobody wanted the Start Menu back, while behind the scenes working on bringing it back...

Which was a massive shame as Windows 8 was good. Just people got to used to having a start menu since windows 95. You don't see sky customers on there forum complaining they don't like the new fresh image based look of sky q and asking for the out of date look back. I was considering dumping youview because it looked like a antique that belongs in the Smithsonian museum. Thankfully next generation kept things new kept things fresh kept things up to date. I am no longer considering dumping youview.

Why do people keep comparing this BT TV update to windows 8? As its a box for watching TV and on demand on? They have all gone this way. And if one just casually scans the internet, YouView isn't the worst at it, either. There are far worse boxes out there. But at least YV have said they are going to address all the issues complained about on here.

And if one just casually scans the internet, YouView isn't the worst at it, either. There are far worse boxes out there. But at least YV have said they are going to address all the issues complained about on here.

Exactly just look at Freeview play thanks but no thanks. I would have to be severely drunk to buy one of those so thankfully im teatotal.

Why do people keep comparing this BT TV update to windows 8? As its a box for watching TV and on demand on? They have all gone this way. It's the tiles, hence the comparison to windows 8. A perfectly decent computer GUI which has been revised and improved upon for decades was thrown out of the window for the stupid idea of having a unified GUI over different devices.
There is a reason that *nix, Mac, Windows all have a similar GUI, it's functional and works, and there's also a reason why Windows reverted.
Had tiles been implemented without all the missing features and the terrible 'journeys' through content, there would have been less of a fuss.
It seems to me that this was a rush job that was imposed on the design team by management which is why it's ended up in such a mess.

NextGen is like Windows 8 because, in the name of keeping up with the Joneses (to attract NEW customers), its genius, cutting-edge innovators regarded their CURRENT customers who had paid good money to buy their previous product because they liked it just the way it was (but, crucially, weren't about to spend any more money any time soon) as silly dinosaurs who needed dragging into the modern world.

And the only way existing customers will be spending more money will be replacing Youview boxes they find frustrating to use.
