We were all begging YouView to reduce the functionality even further, to make the back journeys ever more long and obscure, and to have even smaller tiles by truncating the titles more. Also to have extra keypresses everywhere, and black bars to hide the screen for longer. And some of us found we could still read the EPG despite the shadowy programme playing in the background, and so wanted its prominence increased until you couldn't read the EPG.

Had my car serviced today. It went in as a Volvo and came out as a Volvo, not a bicycle. The software in one of the control modules was updated (I think there are about 7 computers on board but I may be wrong) and it all still works. I wonder what that says for the selection of the processor and the design of the software? Maybe I'm being cynical.
I've worked in software since the early '70s, Concorde, Eurofighter and Airbus A380 to name but a few. I also did some time as a software quality controller in Rolls-Royce. Don't see why lists should be so difficult to provide as an option.

Update 27.46 came in without me saying yay/nay which seems a bit off since it's a major change. I miss the box upper left with the channel preview but my major gripe is reserved for the recordings list with those little confusing images and incomplete text. Can I *please* have a simple text list of my recordings. If I had the option I'd revert to the old software simply on this issue. But I don't have the option - see above for installation/imposition without permission. I do like the other features I've seen though - clearer settings options & much better contrast of text to background in listings spring to mind . One difficulty I'm having is that BT player doesn't seem to be working at all - simply "loading..." followed by a blank screen when it's selected. I have BT as ISP but I don't have a subscription to BT tv, which might be the problem. Please keep the updates coming!

If I have a single program and I press OK, the program starts - which I find annoying as I press OK expecting more information, and now I have a screen full of 'part watched' programs which aren't. So I am trying to train myself to press the i button instead. However, after pressing the i button, the program won't start. I have to go back to the main screen and press OK or the play button to get it to play. If I have a series record, the i button or the OK button both expand the series episodes and I can play an episode by pressing OK or play. Pressing the i button in the expanded series view takes me back to the main screen.
So pleased to hear we will soon be getting some relief with the series record problems, and hoping it will look better - but still would prefer the option of a list.

When the actions come back in the info panel then the default one there will be "Play recording" so soon pressing OK will play the recording.
In Next Gen, OK is set up to play the focused tile wherever possible - but obviously for a series recording it's ambiguous so we launch the fullscreen info view (which itself contains more episode tiles) for you to select one. (i) always brings up (or dismisses) information, OK plays tiles. That's the logic - trying to make things more consistent across the UI (in first gen, the recording list opened to show info on OK, but you could also press (i), but everywhere else in the UI, pressing OK on a piece of content would play it)

Thank you for your very prompt reply - I guess I'd got into the habit of of pressing OK for more information.... so I'm trying to remember to press i, but still don't always manage it.
It's very disappointing that no-one from YouView is responding to all these comments. Presumably you set up this thread because you intended to read what people have to say about the software change (I don't think we should call this an "upgrade"). It really should be clear to you by now that:
- The change has been a disaster. Customer response is overwhelmingly negative. To the extent you did any consultation/research before implementing this change then it was sadly inadequate. If a small bunch of people told you this was a "good idea" then the likelihood is they were secretly working for Sky.
- The customers are not simply a bunch of conservative philistines resistant to any sort of change. We like change if it is an improvement, but people don't like this because it is materially worse than what went before. The comparison to Windows 8 is spot on.
- It's so bad that it will threaten the ongoing popularity of YouView. I chose it after careful thought because it was the best platform. This is no longer the case. You can't afford to behave like this when others are upping their game.
Please could someone from YouView respond to all these comments and confirm when and how we can reverse this change and get back the platform which had virtually nothing wrong with it?
I would like to add my voice to the calls to have the option of a text based list in my recordings. Not everyone prefers pictures or finds them easier, no matter what the pre-rollout survey said.
I have one other "annoyance" in the new software. * If I had a part recording or a failed recording, there was an option where you click "play this recording" called "play this recording on demand". Perfect. That function is gone. * Also when looking at the same menu is at the option of playing other episodes on demand. Perfect. Great navigation. Thats gone. *Where is the clock on the info bar when watching a tv show or recording? Im starting to think that if we were to make a list of the functions we had before the update vs what we have now then we would have a case for Trading Standards. Its like someone sold me a pair of jeans and 6 months later having a mandatory recall because they want to cut them up & only want us to wear shorts. The new software should have been rolled out of new boxes only where the customers knew no different. We are left with a box that only functions half as well as it used to. Please give us the option to roll back the update.

We were all begging YouView to reduce the functionality even further, to make the back journeys ever more long and obscure, and to have even smaller tiles by truncating the titles more. Also to have extra keypresses everywhere, and black bars to hide the screen for longer. And some of us found we could still read the EPG despite the shadowy programme playing in the background, and so wanted its prominence increased until you couldn't read the EPG.

Had my car serviced today. It went in as a Volvo and came out as a Volvo, not a bicycle. The software in one of the control modules was updated (I think there are about 7 computers on board but I may be wrong) and it all still works. I wonder what that says for the selection of the processor and the design of the software? Maybe I'm being cynical.
I've worked in software since the early '70s, Concorde, Eurofighter and Airbus A380 to name but a few. I also did some time as a software quality controller in Rolls-Royce. Don't see why lists should be so difficult to provide as an option.
Make of that what you will, but at least they are now moving in the right direction with the release of .50.
Roys actually said it all already, in what for he, are quite lengthy posts. But it appears no one has has actually taken the time to fully read them. Or the particular irony with which they have been written.
So pleased to hear we will soon be getting some relief with the series record problems, and hoping it will look better - but still would prefer the option of a list.
When the actions come back in the info panel then the default one there will be "Play recording" so soon pressing OK will play the recording.
In Next Gen, OK is set up to play the focused tile wherever possible - but obviously for a series recording it's ambiguous so we launch the fullscreen info view (which itself contains more episode tiles) for you to select one. (i) always brings up (or dismisses) information, OK plays tiles. That's the logic - trying to make things more consistent across the UI (in first gen, the recording list opened to show info on OK, but you could also press (i), but everywhere else in the UI, pressing OK on a piece of content would play it)
