Keith, is it not possible to manually edit the title name in Next Gen then, so you could get rid of the 'NEW:'? That would be useful. I never tried it in the version before tiles because I didn't need to. I had a quick look in 27.50.0 but I couldn't see anything obvious.
Just to add, I have a current series record where the channel has decided to rebroadcast the series from the beginning using the same series link ID. In this case, I find the 'New' tag useful to enable me to quickly identify and delete the old/repeat episodes.
If YouView were to consider removing this tag from the programme title, then maybe they could add it to programme information instead. Just a thought

Ah, that is an interesting issue the broadcaster has presented. I suspect if you were a keeper of watched episodes then the box would not record a second copy but of course that is not the way you should have to work in this scenario. All in all another example of the many corner and use cases that crop up, and that whilst one could perhaps devise options and behaviours to account for it it could quite quickly get complicated for reduced gain.

I thought there already was a metadata tag for "repeat". There certainly used to be - in the old days when "series record" meant the recorder matched the program name, and it asked if you want "new only, or new and repeats". So, isn't "New" in the program title not redundant?

Hmm, Keith has raised some interesting ideas, and given me food for thought.
The program title is, essentially, an arbitrary text string, and as a developer, I would be very reluctant to hard-code interpretation of such arbitrary data (i.e. looking for "New:" at the beginning of the string).
However, as a text string, it could include line-breaks as hints to the receiver regarding layout. In this way, multi-line friendly display formats like the tiles could show multi-line titles in the way the content provider suggests:
New: [LB] Sherlock Holmes [LB] - the lost list option
And for single-line formats (EPG, lists, etc), the line-breaks can be ignored:
New: Sherlock Holmes - the lost list option
I suspect most existing text renderers which have not been explicitly coded for multiline would ignore non-printable characters anyway, so such change in content titles might well be backwards-compatible.
(Note for programmers: [LB] is an abstract notion; whether the implementation is CR, LF, CRLF, HTML <BR> or whatever the actual character is).

I've looked for the 'repeat' identifier before and have just rechecked. Unfortunately it doesn't appear on any of the episodes I've checked, of which I know many to be repeats.

If a series is defined as programmes that have the same series CRID then it is down to the recording box to remember episodes that have been recorded already. It is this memory of what has been recorded for the series CRID that is used to identify a repeat and to ignore it. Some boxes do this better than others. For me youview, including new gen, has always worked very well in remembering what has been fully recorded already for the series in the schedule, even if those recordings have since been deleted.
With youview recorders one way to cancel this functionality is to delete the series schedule and then recreate it. After doing that its memory of what not to record will have been cleared and it will then try to record the old episodes again if they have the same series CRID.
Wayne, it would be good if you would post which series are double recording. There are a few of us on this forum who can look at feeview's epg metadata which the youview box uses for programmes that are received via the aerial.

YV seem to have prioritised style over usability & deleted some useful functions for no apparent reason. Give us the option of lists or tiles. Revamp the recordings so that when you have watched & want to delete one you do not have to wade through to find it. Allow deletion of one scheduled recording in a series via EPG. Bring back the small picture of current channel in EPG & recordings
R1c1 means you have to concentrate and count where the tile is. Then you've two keys to find and press, and those are in a different grid than the one on your screen. Pressing down and right to get to the right tile is similarly complex. Pressing down alone in a list view is far easier. Only one button to press.

@Scott Leslie I don't like the tiles, but they work exactly as coded. They seem to work exactly as specified. There don't appear to be any bugs. The issue is that a lot of us don't like how they've been specified. They've been built for the providers not for the users. I'm just thankful that the systems analysts didn't specify tiles for the programme guide! Clearly they realised that a list is better.

I have noticed if you disconnect from the internet the box navigation is more responsive. so this is a bug/performance issue.
My Plan B while Youview sort out the new platform is SKY HD service (not SKYQ) and i have also sourced a humax retail box which has the pre-tiles update (will use this for back room -disconnected from Internet so it cannot update); I use my amazon stick for streaming and Netflix.
I will follow the Youview progress and I genuinely hope the platform improves for all it user base.

The funny thing about the EPG is that it is two-dimensional (channel and time) and so more like the tiles than anything else in CurrentGen ever was.
But nobody ever complained about having to go along and down, instead of just down.
Strange that - but I guess when there is really only one way to present certain information, it seems both natural and unavoidable.
Whereas when it is used to present Recordings and Schedules, all hell breaks loose.
The presentation of the tiles in 27.50.0 is certainly better than it was previously in NextGen, and I daresay there are improvements to come.
But with 27.50.0 out there, it may be time for the 'bring back lists' brigade to stop and think if that is really, unavoidably, what they need, or if there aren't just a few more tweaks that will make the tiles a perfectly acceptable alternative presentation?

"more like the tiles than anything else in CurrentGen ever was." BUT, it does not include the useless image showing a random picture that may or may not be recognised for the program it relates to. Maybe, if a tiled layout is compulsory, larger tiles with only writing in would be more acceptable. I don't see what is wrong with a list though.

For many people lists is by far and away the better solution, for those who get on with tiles they already have a solution and I hope they would support those who don't have a good solution

I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.
27.50.0 is in no way a substitute for lists. I appreciate that in 27.50.0 they attempted to make the tiles more like a list, but why even try and make tiles like a list, why not JUST HAVE A LIST! Everyone has had tiles for a while now, and the vast majority of feedback is still to return to the functionality that was purchased; so the calling for lists is not a prejucdicial one. If I had wanted a clunky infantile interface, I would have bought one - the product I now have is not the product I bought. I want my purchase product returned to me.
As if 27.50.0 was not bad enough in terms of an interface, when attempting to naviagte the tiles (for the first minute of the tiles page being up) the delay between a button push and the cursor moving can be as long as 8 seconds - typically 3 seconds. Yes, I have tried resets, checking the internet connection / speed etc etc. The only way I can now make my box usable is to unplug it from the internet - I only wish I had done this before YouView stole my original software. And that's what it is - theft. It is absolutely unforgivable that this appauling buggy retrograde interface has been rolled out when we once enjoyed probably the best interface that the market offered.

It's a Humax T2000 with internet speed of 6Mb/s. The day before the update the navigation speed was normal, as soon as the update happened, the navigation became virtually unusable. I notice that if you select the tiles page and then wait for 1 minute, the speed of navigation after the minute has elapsed is acceptable.

5 should be (and is) more than enough... For test purposes, try the BBC red button service. Access should be near instantaneous.

I made some rough idea suggestions here for the MyTV page (I suggest doing away with the tiles for that section of the menu altogether).
Samsung tried that tiled interface in 2013-4 on their Freeview PVR/Blu-ray Player and everyone hated it!
I also think consideration should be made to what happens to blank tiles when a programme recorded no longer has internet thumbnails available or the box is not connected to the Internet, as it leaves old recordings showing a blank thumbnail, which is why I suggested an interface where a blank tile would no longer be an issue, because it wouldn't have to show a tile (much like the old YouView recordings library approach to thumbnails).
