I honestly don't understand these negative comments, as BTs new services on this new platform are world class, ground breaking and multi-award winning. Deservedly so too.
And they haven't even finished yet!

Thought this was about the YouView mess of a user interface rather than any additional BT services?

That the CurrentGen technology had had its day, and it was time for a change, so NextGen had to be a ground-up rewrite on new technology.

That it is more than a few storeys short of the heights that CurrentGen reached is regrettable, as is that you can go in through a door, turn round and go out again and find yourself in a different part of the building; and that none of the doors have names on them, just pictures of the occupants, and so on.

But the new building at least has solid foundations, whereas the old one was on decidedly shaky ground.

    Etc.

Oh, and the only reason B roads are fun is because most traffic is now taking the motorway; imagine if the motorway wasn't there to take it.....

That is in the wrong thread visionman. This one is nothing to do with BT. Better not upset Daniel.

Paul and Sydney, you would do well to note the title of this thread.

Nothing to do with BT, you reckon?

Roy. Visionman's comments were not to do with the BT update but about the award winning. Nothing to do with the poor update being discussed here. Please read the complete title of the thread.

what a load of old TOSH. We are not luddites, far from it. All we are asking is to be able to navigate in this "NextGen" in a sensible way, is it asking too much to be able to scroll BOTH directions and choose how to view the interface, in consideration as you do on a PC, laptop etc, folders with icon or list view. Far from the complaiuners not seeing it YOUR way, I believe it is you that is short sighted for not considering the alternatives.

A question for you Roy. how long have you had a Hewmax (youview). We are on our 4th generation

Tony, many of users current issues with the latest BT update will be addressed with the release with the newest YV 27.50 update and it really is a big improvement.

I did. It has 'BT TV 'in it. BT TV just won an award. I find that relevant.

It may be that the title of the thread should more properly refer to the YouView update, but it looks like BT's rather nasty habit of trying to claim all the credit for YouView has worked with the OP, and then backfired on BT.

But we have to play them as they lie, and the 'real' BT TV, the subset of the YouView update actually provided by BT, thus becomes the legitimate topic of discussion here.

Have they decided when we'll get it then VM? The new software is shortening my life considerably since it arrived it's so slow and clunky.

    Yes they have -
"I am amazed!   I posted a formal complaint with BT via their website just after I posted my original message in this forum this morning.  They just rang me to say they are very much aware of the problems and that YouView have committed to a new release within two weeks which they hope will resolve them.   He wasn't able to be specific about which problems so we shall see ...   The proof of the pudding, etc."

Well done. I posted on here and tried to get some sense out of Youview (having bought my box from John Lewis as a broadcast receiver,) and having had only platitudes back, assumed that they were going to try to bluff it out. It is such a pain to use , I have been driven to  dig out my old Humax box and watch in SD  !

Gosh what a mess. Just registered to see what is going on. It looks like the developer has made a right mess of this.

Can't be sure, but I think YouView employed more than just one to write NextGen.

Roy was being humorously sarcastic, Matthew. With a touch of irony thrown in, just for good measure. :)

Been seeing many similar posts. Was any sort of focus group or beta testing done? I know we live in an age of icons and thumbnails over text, but text has ,many advantages. This update has gone for form over function. Pictures versus text menus should be optional

I just came home to this updated recordings format and I'm completely lost and not in a good way. I just want my plain and simple list of recordings back. I genuinely can't navigate the new format or indeed even see it on my 'normal size' T.V. which sits in the corner of the room. I can't see this working for me and I'm not going to pay for something that is just going to be a source of constant irritation.

Interesting to note the defenders of YV have massive number of posts on here, whereas most of the complainers, myself included are new and driven to join to try and get some sense put back into the interface.

Perhaps these posts should be tiled rather than a list with emojis as backgrounds to help us navigate across then down, and how about making one post appear massive just to be cool. I'm sure this would help modernise this forum.

So, having used the interface for a while now, I still hate mytv so much I want to dump the box and

Why can't I search for programmes with only the channels I have? Look for a film and wade through tonnes of channels and services I don't have or want.

    I want to hide channels....

I could go on and on, but still no speedy updates.

What is the point of an update when a lot of the good features that people use and like are dropped?

    Like:

No little picture in top right of screen, picture in the background that you can't see is useless.

No alphabetical search although it says you can in the new manual.

No alliterative time suggested if you can't record at the selected time.

Every time you stop a catchup program it goes back too far and you have to start all over again.

These are just the four things that annoy me the most and I live in hope that they will be put back in soon?

A little research on this forum will explain to you what is happening. Come back when you have read up on NextGen a little, and if you have any residual questions, we can go from there!

BT G4 - I've just accessed BBC Radio 1, not my demographic I know, but there you go.

For the first ten seconds it gives a blank screen and then switches to BBC TEXT mode, listing the name of the track, artist, programme info, & start & end times (graphics are SD only, which look awful on a 4K TV).
From there, pressing Red will reproduce the beloved and fondly remembered decades old BBC TEXT service. Or pressing Green will result in a blank screen whilst listening to ones chosen radio choice with a line of text flicking from point to TV point stating 'Press GREEN or 0 to return'.

agreed.. by far the worst menu I've had the miss fortune too use, totally non intuitive.. to make matters worse, the remote control is the worst thing I've used in over a decade.. very amateurish.. hard too believe these elements passed any 3rd party testing at all
