Virgin Media installed today with the new V6 box, beautiful, intuitive software. Goodbye and good riddance **** YouView box. Hope the software is sorted out for everyone else still using it.
At least it has a list view rather than this ridiculous icon view

Bought a Humax FVP-4000T (Freeview Play), great box, can record 4 x channels + watch one and can view content remotely within the house using the Humax Media Player, FTP. Has Netflix and all other OnDemand services that Youview has and more. Sorry Youview, you have lost a customer of 4 years through a badly implemented rollout.

How about Youview changing stuff for the sake of change? to the detriment of the customers experience, making them leave their service because of it? No amount of fan boy slap downs can change that in my book. When you mess up you need to fess up. Youview have their head in the sand with their hard to read picture tiles and messed up record viewing functionality that is still in beta mode, unfortunately the customer is doing the beta testing and not a focus group (Freeview Play have implemented record viewing tiles much better than Youview). The problem Youview has now is there are loads of bugs/loss of previous functionality in the current rollout it will take at least a year to bring it back up to anything usable, by then, customers will have voted with their feet to other platforms.

(Text based lists) Ideal for the people stuck in the past
Options. Choose which is most important. Either:
a, Past/good OR b, Future/bad.
Give me the Past any day if it is better than the future.
Ridiculous arguments to imply 'just because its new/modern it must mean it is better and be accepted'. And especially when *the future* has taken away functionality AND introduced bugs (on top of the awful interface). That's how companies lose customers.

"Freeview Play have implemented record viewing tiles much better than Youview" That's interesting - any chance of a picture?
Customers leaving left, right and centre then. It's an incredibly competitive market between BT, Sky and Virgin. BT must be so mad at the YouView "boffins" right now....

Do you have any figures that show how many of the two and a half million + customers have left as opposed to virgin and sky churn. BT metrics show most of its customer base loves the new interface and as new players are added they will like it even more...

Um, this particular customer "left" for Freeview Play, not Sky, or Virgin.

I'm guessing the YouView 4K box has a much faster CPU etc etc compared to the DTR-T2100, which cannot easily cope with this new software.

Much cleaner and easier to read and can group by Channel, DOW & Recent.

At the end of the day, to REMOVE tons of functionality of any kind of hardware, functions that people like and used, is just plain wrong. You should *never, ever* make something worse than what it was. That's just silly.

Building for the future is also how you add customers, stay static in this business and you die. I understand the new interface was launched early and is not in the greatest place right now BUT it will still prove to be the only real decision YouView could have made. BT had threatened to move away from YouView because it was getting to far behind trying to bring in new abilities in the old interface.

I would be deliriously happy if they did.

Of the official 2.5m user base (its actually near 3), 100,000 have either left or just disconnected their boxes from the internet. I got that from a press release that quoted a user base that was 100,000 less than previous press releases. BTs NextGen platform has generally been well received, with the new HTML5 Player being of particular note. It is superb.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

Is this just BT saying it's brilliant because it is patently not

Point of note - the tile search on My TV is superior to that of the BT Player, as one cannot just press right and just quickly scroll through the rows. It just stops at the end of the top row, so one has to manually press down. The NextGen My TV tile page/menu not only has a left-to-right function but a flick up and down too. So by pressing right it will scroll through all the rows of tiles. What many people don't realise is that this is far quicker than the old list view.

Not a particularly relevant point of note in my opinion as often Bt Player rows are made up of different categories and the end of rows are often filled with a Show All option. A tile search is only superior in my view if the tiles are identifiable , unfortunately currently many of the current MYTV need improvement. That of course is not a release specific issue but rather a data quality issue which no one seems to own, Also many of the BT Player tile pages offer a sort by A-z Or most recent additions. A degree of customisation that is lacking on MyBt.

You are entitled to your opinion. Don't agree with it like, but you are entitled to it. Show me the A to Z.

Thanks for the tip. Youview just lost 3 more customers to fv play.
Now lived with this s/w for a couple of months. I don't know if they have been tinkering with it without updating version numbers but seems to becoming less reliable. Have to keep cold booting. Is there a way I can revert to old version of software?

Afraid not. (If only...!) Its been asked/requested by many but once you've updated you're stuffed and there is no going back. Some of the 'more less helpful defenders/posters will tell you that you just have to go and buy another one that still has the old version of interface and turn off the automatic updates.

Hi Andy,
Can you explain what is happening to your box for it to be less reliable? It'd be helpful to hear some details. Can you also let me know the box model you are using?

Periodically runs so slooowwwly when trying to do functions like info, to a point where I think it has hung and had to power cycle, Also sometime just get black screen come up and have to power cycle. Generally it is slower to respond that last version.

Hi Andy,
Have you tried doing a soft restart (pressing and holding the power button for about 8 seconds) to see if that makes a difference? I'd also suggest trying a Maintenance Mode 4 reset which keep your recordings but requires an internet connection to run.
