    Hey you guise, I actually found something I like! I was pleased to see I can now delete whole collections of recordings en-masse, in the previous (far superior) software version, I had to delete each episode one-by-one.

    But enough for you to post back?

    Yes.

    redchiz merely a statement of fact that I could do something on Freeview Play that Youview can't. I also didn't say Freeview Play was superior, you said that.

    Which FVP machines allow copying of SD programmes?

    Be a bugger to watch though, wouldn't they? You would really have to crane your neck :-)

    @youwhat Exceptional diversionary tactics for a newbie well done. Including misrepresentation, where you claim that saying the grass is greener is not suggesting superiority, apologies for any misunderstanding.

    I will though ask directly for the third time how Freeview Play lets you accomplish what you claim, put up or shut up.

    @redchiz no misrepresentation intended.

    FVP-4000T allows download via Media Server capability that presents a MPEG2 downloaded file or via the much slower method by USB that can be copied direct from the Recordings screen to a USB stick (FAT32 formatted), can also batch copy/archive series to USB. Only works with SD content though.

    When it works... as you'll find. Good luck with it though.

    SD to watch lol, I can remember thinking that was good about 10 years ago on my archos player. These days I go with catch up players with HD as minimum but prefer UHD with Dolby atoms. Let me know when free view play do that.

    Works fine over the network, USB is too slow though, I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. Download via the network is very quick and reliable, earlier versions were buggy apparently.
    @Visionman do you have a FVP-4000T?

    Its difficult to explain. I'm fully conversant with all Freeview models (and good luck with your purchase btw) but you won't find the grass greener. Like the tiles?

    @Visionman I don't have anything against tiles, I do against truncating names on tiles though, FVP has the programme name under the tile which gives the best of both worlds.
    Glad you can read my mind from there though.

    @youwhat Thank you for stating which box you have. I can see that this has media playing capabilities which are quite handy if you don't have such a device already. But I still don't see how you can export off-air recordings? Which of your other devices have you managed to do that to and how? Genuinely curious now.

    The 4000T is known as a pause and play box. You press, it pauses, and 1.9 seconds later it does it. And its EPG doesn't even have an info button. Don't believe me? Go look for it.
    It will take you a search and then 5 button presses get into it and then 5 out (back out journey).

    It is vastly inferior to a YouView. They all are.

    @scott, ah, so you can watch HD recordings on an external offline device downloaded from Youview? excellent stuff. (scratches head)

    I can watch catchup HD if I want but if going any distance I can take stuff with me, Youview does not allow me to do that (except record remotely, as does FVP).
    Catchup is great unless you are a few weeks late and you miss the first few episodes or don't have access to wifi, I have already found myself in both these positions.

    @Visionman I am aware of the pause delay which is no biggy in my book. The EPG info is accessed via the OK button a different process, again, no biggy.

    Saying they all are vastly inferior to Youview is your opinion and as someone who has been on Youview for the past four years I now prefer the FVP UI over Youview, if they had left it the way it was my opinion may be different, so we will agree to differ on that one. I have gained more features by going to FVP, so I am happy.

    Oh you'd be amazed how long I've had YouView. Then got two. Believe me, it ain't that long... :)

    "But I still don't see how you can export off-air recordings? Which of your other devices have you managed to do that to and how? Genuinely curious now."

    It's easier on Windows 8.1 (Copy/Paste from a Digital Media Server windows explorer view) but possible on Win10 by copying the WMP/DLNA properties stream into Chrome and the MPEG download starts, very straightforward. 1.1GB (1 hour recording) download takes about 5 minutes over my wifi, maybe quicker on CAT5e though. Then dump them to Phone/Tablet. Not tried any apps on android yet.

    Fat 32 I hear it's something extremely rare that the museums are actually employing people to complete a world wide search because they are so desperate to get hold of it. Unfortunately they are drawing a blank at present as everything there coming into contact with has been formated in ntfs. The museum in New York has put a million dollar reward to the person who finds it first.

    FAT(32) chance...

    Visionman is being faux-naïf though, isn't he, as he could perfectly well look up FAT32 on Google if he wanted to (or at least, I hope he could).

    It's just that he heard one of those warning bells that rang to say this was not exactly a press and play option the average punter would be comfy with :-)

    You can also use the DMS (DLNA) option in Network Location, but that's way too easy and no fun. Simple copy/paste. I wouldn't use the USB option as it's way too slow (takes as long as watching it to copy, so must be real-time transcoding going on).

    Thanks for that further explanation. You say "very straightforward" but it is far from it for the majority of YouView users I suspect. What device(s) have you subsequently viewed these on and with what apps?

    @redchiz On Windows 10 shows under 'This PC' in Network locations and has folder with all the Recordings in it. Simple copy/paste the MPEG to the desktop/phone/tablet.
    There are other ways to access it as I explained before but this is the easy option for folk.

    Any DLNA enabled client should be able to play the recordings ok over the network, I have so far on Ubuntu/Windows 10 & Android using VLC and also playing the videos offline.

    I hope these boxes don't use SMB V1 considering the known vulnerability demonstrated during the recenty problems caused by the Wannacrypt ransomware cyberattack

    @Stephen, in what fashion are you guys rolling out these updates? I'm asking as I received this infamous 'downgrade' almost a year after the initial roll out date and it would be terrible if I was to receive these menial updates after such a long time.
