Can't find subtitle on ITV player

There doesn't seem to be an option for turning on subtitles on ITV Player.  The last post I can find on here regarding this is two years old....  Surely they must be available now?!

What happens when you press the 'SUB' button on the remote while watching the ITV player? Same as two years ago, still?

Sorry for being flippant, Lin, but I see this is your first post - if you were one of the people posting about those sorts of issues 2 years or more ago (like me), then you would have accepted the reality that posting those sorts of questions doesn't mean anyone will take any notice. So we might as well enjoy ourselves with a bit of humour..... Nothing personal - but don't hold your breath - or jump to eminently sensible and logical conclusions. Sense and logic don't go far on this forum.

I guess ITV still haven't provided them yet, then :-(

Are subtitles available on ITV players on other platforms, do we know?

Lol! No... I'm a newbie - just joined this evening. First time I've tried to access subtitles on ITV player on my TV and when I couldn't find them I went on Google to see if there were any clues as to where they were and came across posts on this forum from 2 years ago. I'll try again in 2017! See you then! :-)

And welcome, Lin. It's actually a fun forum, so don't give up on us, but dynamic it ain't. Just didn't want you to get your hopes up. But if you ever have a problem with YV it's a good place to come - loads of REALLY helpful & knowledgeable people, like our Roy for one (who's already clocked your post I see). You'll be welcome to visit any time - and it is a good place to keep up with new developments.

I've checked on my computer, and the 'S' option is actually there to turn subtitles on.  So I don't know why it's not available on my TV/YouView.

Tried the 'del' key on the YV remote - bottom right key - and it switches on subtitles on live ITV HD. But it doesn't seem to work on the on-demand ITV player. Haven't explored it a lot, though. Others who use it more than me may be able to shed further light on this.

ITV just do not seem to care about subtitles...I just do NOT use this service because of that fact....It is not only the hard of hearing that benefit from subtitles...Accents can be very hard to understand at times

Hi there, unfortunately subtitles are not available on itv hub on all platforms sadly. I know it's a pain, as with me being deaf myself and rely on it. You're best to record live shows/films if you have recording box? That's all I can suggest really wish to be more of a help....oh just in case you're not aware of this 5 demand do have some subtitles which was added not long ago. So hopefully itv hub and all 4 catch up next ;)

    Hi Kerry

There is a new post in this Conversation, but it is at the bottom of the thread.

If, when you see 'Last Reply: ' against an item on the Home Page (Conversations) you click or tap the name of that last poster, you will be taken not just into the thread, but actually to that very posting, so you can reply in sequence.

It is particularly useful in a case like this, where I am replying to your comment, and not at the very bottom of the thread.

confusing isn't it?  Ha....I would like to add that I don't have a lot of faith that commercial stations have viewers at the top of their list of importance. As I said in my post, subtitles should be mandatory, even if they only help with accents. My wife is deaf so of course they are essential for her enjoyment of tv...Maybe we should start a campaign

Hi Roy. Nothing at all happened when I pressed 'SUB'!

I can't believe I can't get sub titles on ITV!  I usually watch mostof the BBC dramas on catch up as I can have sub titles on and just assumed I'd be able to on ITV. (Which goes to show how much there is worth watching on ITV since I'veonly just found out - I was going to watch The Secret butI can't hear it :(

Quite frankly I find this continued and stagnant situation unacceptable. The technical needs and requirements for subtitles were/are in the first core draft of YouView specifications and yet four years down the line both OFCOM and the Govt haven't made such accessibility mandatory, even though such is now technically possible. Joke.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

This is indeed a joke. 2017 - NextGen software & still only the BBC provide subtitles on catch up. Why is this? Is it Youview or the individual channel? Whichever it is it needs sorting very quickly. PLEASE,

    Mike - it's the channel.

The Players are built by the channels, I'm sure with some input and guidance from YouView on the interfacing needed, but YouView are not in a position to add the subtitling feature to anybody's Player.

That the BBC iPlayer can provide subtitles demonstrates that there is likewise no obstacle to subtitles in the interface provided by YouView to the Players.

Contact itv and deprecate their lack of subtitles on YouView; one genuinely disgruntled customer is worth a phalanx of representations from YouView to the broadcaster.

Thanks Roy. I will contact all of the channels that purport to offer subtitles but fail.

Hi. I contacted both channel 4 & ITV. 4 replied with the stock answer that they are totally committed to providing this service but it takes time - watch this space. ITV haven't responded in spite of assuring me in the auto response that they would definitely get back to me in 24 hours. That was five days ago so it looks like if I definitely want to watch something with subtitles on any channel other than the BBC that I should record it.
