Again; I have three Android devices, all beyond 4.1, and not one of them is offering me this update :-(

The team are doing a phased rollout on this one (though on an accelerated timetable compared to when we might usually say "phased rollout") so it may take a little while before it's available to everyone

AAMOI, how do you phase an Android rollout, when you have no idea who has what devices where?

Working backwards through the foodstuffs? :-)

Different again to the phasing strategies for Humax and Huawei, just to keep you on your toes.
I'm told that the iOS version of the same lets you "force" an update if you really want it through the app store (only phasing automatic updates), but no such luck sadly for the Android version.

We did confirm that an initial rollout percentage could see it in the play store before we posted this?

If you mean we should have waited for the end of the phased rollout to post this, then the first subset of people to automatically update would have been surprised/confused?

In fairness the Play Store does show that the YouView app was updated on the 27th September, and if your devices are set to Auto Update you'll get it as soon as it's available to you.

Refreshing what was an empty list of updates for my Nexus this morning, it found an ITV Hub update from three weeks ago this afternoon.

I guess that was a phased rollout; I do hope this YouView rollout will be a bit less phased than that.

Over on Twitter, youview got grilled into saying that the app rollout update is phone device specific.
Anyone got it and on what device.?
For me, Google pixel XL is No
Samsung galaxy tab S2 is NO

Google say "When setting up a staged roll-out, you can't target specific users, device types, OS versions, etc."

This was tweeted by YouView... "Hi, the rollout is being phased out dependant to each device, as a result some devices will receive it sooner than others"

YouView hyped up the announcement.... Me smells a rat

    You might misunderstand....

‘Devices’ here means peoples’ individual phones, not particular makes or models of phone.

Hi Roy, I understand what you're saying, but not what youview are saying. The only unambiguous word they repeat is "device"....
"Hi, I was referring to android devices. This comes down to Google's criteria, and is random as explained earlier by Stephen."

Lets face it, the roll-out is just another example of the piss poor communications, and poor customer service, we've come to expect from Youview with regards to software "Upgrades".

@Stephen Any idea when the Sony Xperia L1 will get the new update??

It's not by device (as per my previous link) so I can't tell you I'm afraid. We have no specific control, we just dial up the percentages and Google does the logistics for us

Thanks for the reply I will be honest I missed what you said the first time around. So it sounds like a bit of patience is what I have to show here. Thanks again.

There was some back and forth as to what a ‘device’ was; all Moto G4s for instance, or my individual G4?

i thought it was pretty clear that it was unit by unit, but not everyone did.

So I am glad @Stephen has made this crystal clear. Again.

And indeed it seems to be user by user. As soon as my personal Google account (which has no YouView association/privileges) got access, the update was also available on my tablet and my old phone, so I wasn't left in a situation where I had it in one place but not others.

Well, that’s a third thing, though I can see Google’s logic there.

So so at least I can now stop checking all three of my devices, forlornly, in the distant hope that I might get this update before Xmas.

AAMOI, what is your chosen release rate, and why dribble it out anyway?

Still no update on either of my android devices. Galaxy S5 and tab S2. This is as slow as my BT Youview hide channels update. lol

We paused it briefly yesterday because we spotted an issue and should be resuming with a new build today. If all goes well, we aim to have the rollout done less than a week from now. We're rolling this one out gradually because it's using new cloud infrastructure for being able to see your box's recordings and we want to monitor that there aren't any glitches. If there were a problem on the backend, having all the Android app users able to hit it would a) potentially make the problem worse and b) affect more users at once.

Stephen it would be fantastic if youview would send the APK of the app to people willing to take the risk of it not working correctly but I somehow don't think youview will do it.

You never know what could arrive in your PMs at the point we release the new build...

    Hi Stephen
As we don't see anyone commenting on the actual usage of the app on this forum, only the lack of access to the app, then your teasing may have a speedier feedback on robustness.
