New Freeview Play box

Humax have released a new Freeview Play box, the FVP-5000T .

It does seem to me that anyone looking for a box who doesn't do a great deal of research would quickly be persuaded to choose this rather than YouView just on the basis that it can record 4 programmes whilst watching a 5th.
(Unless they want Ultra HD.)

Personally I like the look of the Live TV app which apparently lets you stream both live TV and recordings from the box to your smart device. Nice.
Still, it's better than YouView in that respect.
It's a shame YouView can't offer record 3 accross a max of 2 muxes.
Edit:
I see that the recording options are the same as the previous FVP-4000T box.
A few more buttons including one that goes straight to recordings (there's a novelty).
But still no "i" button which I find astonishing.

I hope YouView will take note of that.
Does Youview currently offer any of this ?
Now, Now, jimb. :-) Don't mention the lack of an 'info button', as you'll give a certain administrator on the My Humax Forum a heart attack with such Heresy. And said always responds with 'You just press the OK button.' But apparently I'm not allowed to comment on anything FVP. So lets see what the Humax troops on the ground think -

"YouTube , Record 4 watch a 5th , live TV and recordings streamed to smart devices , 2TB version.
Does Youview currently offer any of this ?"
You pays your money, you makes your choice.
"Nothing has yet been confirmed in terms of a possible software upgrade to the FVP 4000T, if and when that changes I’ll update you all soonest."

With the original and first ever FVP, the Freeview Play 4000T only being 2 years old I personally can't see it.
"Use the mini guide:
For example.....
Watch live TV e.g. BBC 1 HD
Press Down Arrow (below OK button)
Press OK (Brings up information about the current program on BBC 2 HD without changing to it)"Press Down Arrow again (On my screen I now have info about BBC 2 HD)
Press Right Arrow (That then shows a list of programs for BBC 2 HD.

FVP 4000Ts and the upcoming 5000T are heavily laden feature rich boxes such as -
3 Tuners
Manual tune
Manual Timer
Series Folders
WiFi - 802.11n Wi-Fi
DLNA Server/Client
Multiroom support (additonal kit required)
2 USB ports
Scart socket (4000T only)
Series record
Pause live TV
Auto Delete
Archive to USB - (when it works properly)
No Scart connection on 5000T
RF Loop thru'
Netflix
Youtube
Search IP and guide for programmes.
Now and Next TV Guide
Option of recordings Grid or Lists (with many preferring its Grid layout)
Whereas much of the above was never YouViews goal. Simplicity, accessibility and speed and ease of use were always at the forefront of its development and still are.
You won't be missed.
Stop trolling.

So why do you think that they have introduced a recordings list option with the new box?
"So, as of today would you guys buy a new fvp-4000t? Have recent firmware updates made this box viable? I'm deciding between a Humax YouView box and this one - I'm basically interested in recording TV and occasional catch-up. Not bothered about DLNA because I have that covered with other devices and I don't need anything other than the main four on-demand services (BBC, ITV, C4 and C5). I use an XBox One as a media hub for everything else."
"Either might do the job. All the Youview boxes have just had a radical new user interface; I haven't used it much but it seems OK to me. Don't buy one of the DTR T1xxx series Youview boxes as they appear to have serious reliability issues; the DTR T2xxx boxes don't have the same level of complaint. The FVP-4000T is a marmite box; some people love it, some hate it. I think Humax have fixed the most serious bugs in the software but the most common complaint is about the users interface; I suggest you go into a retailer and play with the user interface and see if it seems workable to you."
