YouView Statement on box updates

Hi everyone,
There has been a lot of discussion on our forum lately on box updates so we thought it would be useful to put out a statement on this:
We are committed to continuously develop and improve the experience using the advances in technology in order to serve viewers and meet the ambitions of our partners.
Our new Cloud infrastructure helps us achieve this by bringing more flexibility for our partners to tailor their YouView offering according to their needs. As a result devices may vary in functionality, features, Players or Apps.
For updates and news relating to your box or TV it is best to contact your provider. Here is where to go
BT
TalkTalk
Plusnet
And YouView for all Sony and Humax retail queries.
Phil

Is it just me or does that sound like a pre-cursor to these boxes are about to split substantially in what they offer...
I wonder if that will be a timing thing or a definitive not going to happen on xyz box. Only time will tell I suppose.
Personally I just wish a box would give something/anything new
seems like an age since a decent improvement/addition

Interesting to see the mention of different apps across devices, I'd take a plunge that one such app will be Now TV which I still believe will be exclusive to BT boxes.
If you're still around @Steve K I think you've been vindicated in your long held view re the T1000 BT boxes according to the post on the BT Care page.
For BT customers this would be a better link than the one in the OP to keep up to date with developments https://community.bt.com/t5/YouView-Boxes/bd-p/YouView
Obviously a co-ordinated thing as the BT article refers to YouView's statement being correct before anybody has even asked...There is still a question mark to me whether this mean Retail and BT will tread a similar path splitting more from TalkTalk (who have sky anyway) or if it is deeper than that and means BT and Retail will move apart.
They have already moved apart; there is the BT app on these boxes that Retail users can’t get, a whole raft of IP channels likewise, a different update schedule, and probably one or two other things I can’t recall right now.
So what, exactly, is new in the announcement above?
There are no different App/Players on the boxes. The BT app you mention is on your phone/tablet only not the box as you infer. There is no real functionality difference.
to me this quote
'As a result devices may vary in functionality, features, Players or Apps.'
is a key quote. Yet with YouView CEO stating new players will be coming to YouView this year it is hard to see where the difference will be (unless he meant coming to 'some' boxes).
Also BT site states
'we’ll bring new features and updates to BT set top boxes based on our customer feedback rather than generic updates across BT, TalkTalk and PlusNet.'
Yes I agree things are slightly different paced but both BT and Retail 'newer boxes' are currently on 29.36 so yes things are not that apart. It will be interesting to see what the next software releases bring
@Roy Is there a subliminal message in your picture, with the elephant in the room?
Funnily enough my BT box settings page looks EXACTLY the same as your RETAIL settings page
sorry I am a bit thick when it comes to subliminal messages, in fact I may be just a bit thick fullstop
Ah yes....told you I was a bit thick, completely forgot about that lol. Now you mention it the Retail boxes really have been poor compared to what BTTV offer haven't they...
With extra IP channels (I forget how many, must be about 40 now and nearly all available in HD with catch-up in the BT Player), 4K channel with Dolby Atmos, BT Player in the menu, remote channel viewing app and Netflix in 5.1 sound. Probably about time they officially went their own ways in that case...
I think it could possibly be the next phase of updates that may show up the first differences in the directions Youview and BT are going. Only a hunch but if not this next batch of updates it will most definitely be in the following one from what I've picked up elsewhere on my travels.
I could show you a page that looks different, but then I would have to kill you
And the BT statement goes one further by confirming that T1000s have now pretty much reached their technical limit, but they will get the Hide Channels feature they are currently missing.
Its not really a surprise its been publicly announced the platforms may start to diverge further, because they already do.
Have TalkTalk announced anything?
If that were the case then YouView (and partners) would have a main development base around the newer T2xxx and DN372T (and better) boxes. One may hope that would provide the capacity/flexibility to push on with new developments of note and that they are discovered and delivered more quickly. Ideally there would also be capacity to focus some attention on bringing back more of the lost features and fixing various minor glitches, e.g. 'jump to a specific minute in a recording' to name but one feature that is surely not too difficult to restore and would be welcomed by some ;-)
Though I thought the 5000T already was its retail equivalent of YouView?
As far as I'm aware there are no multi-tuner versions of amYouview box.
2 isn’t multi?
