Three bugbears about YouView
Three bugbears about YouView....
No Playbar jump to time. ie skip 50 mins.
No HD default in either the main menu, guide or mini guide. So I find the 'turn on the box' default channels useless, as I don't watch SD.
And finally, only the BBC iPlayer is in HD, so its about time the commercial PSBs dragged their backsides and their Players into the 21st century to offer it.

I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.

If not, it’s a little unfair to call this a YouView bugbear, don’t you think?
But my candidate would be the unwished-for ISP branding you get if BT or TalkTalk are your ISP, even when you don’t subscribe to their offerings.
The worst thing about YouView by a country mile.
The only channels that I feel certain will record in their entirety are, ironically, the only ones with HD catchup.
Second is the quality of the hardware. My signal strength is relatively low (despite SS & SQ = 100%), yet all youview recordings (I've had 5 boxes) on the main HD mux show a little breakup. No other receivers show breakup at all.
It does feel daft to see duplicate channels (HD & SD). The viewer only needs one listing with a transparent option along the lines of:
"Press {green} to switch HD/SD
*warning this will clear the live TV buffer*".
Your ‘green toggle’ is ingenious - though like all toggles, it suffers from the weakness that you have to know the current toggle state to be sure that you are changing to what you want, rather than being there already - but I think you would have to put this to Freeview rather than YouView, as separate (not duplicate) SD and HD channels is rather baked into the standards at present.
You would also have to think about how you would handle searching, recording, and so on, under such a regime.
1. Mytv Series folders needs to provide season/series shortcuts
2. Mytv recording information could be displayed with more clarity. The episode title always feels a bit lost not distinguished from the main body of text. The ondemand search in Youview provides greater clarity in this respect ( it also has series/season shortcuts see point 1 above)
3.Netlfix app has a couple of well documented issues that have remained unresolved. a) frame rate conversion issue that can result in annoying repetative judder on panning shots, in very rare cases it can make some material unwatchable. b) Netflix on Youview uses a filter to enhance/sharpen the picture. The problem arises once you have used Netflix, the sharpening filter is applied to all Youview content (well certainly DTT tv), where it should be limited to just the Netflix app. The only way to return to the default unsharpened viewing experience is to turn Youview off from the mains, or alternatively a software update.
What your talking about there (pressing 'i') is called Action Panel and there are a few different versions of it knocking around atm. It is currently in the throes of development. For instance, on one of my boxes, I can just press play for content. On my other, I can't yet. But these are only first or second versions, with more development to come. I don't know what is to come, but honestly can't see a 'Record' feature being missed out on some future release.
2. See 1.
3. Software updates that destroy functionality of my box, NextGen being the obvious example but the last one being the live pause functionality corruption.
2. When a recording clashes, a suggestion of an alternate date/time to save searching again
3. All the other functions that were present in the old software.(lol)
4. Thank you.
