Just discovered that this upgrade means that Android versions before 4.5 will no longer work  the app - how ridiculous

That’s still at least two generations further back than Google’s own support for Android goes....

You could take a chance downloading a older APK file it not guaranteed to work and you view certainly wouldn't support it but if it does work there is no way of knowing how long it would work but it's up to you if you want to give it a try.

iOS devices 5yrs old are supported by the latest software.
Android is such a fragmented platform.
You are in a lottery with Android unless you upgrade every couple of yrs.

To be fair most people upgrade every two years anyway on contract. I find android more user friendly I recently got rid of a iPad pro because I couldn't get away with it. It is without a doubt the last apple product I will buy. Each to there own I suppose but apple products in my opinion are not user friendly. I don't like the air drop feature on it I like full Bluetooth access.

@roy when I had mine the Bluetooth menu would only pair to certain Bluetooth devices and I couldn't pair to another device and browse the files like I can on Android I can except things could have changed since I owned a iPad but that was how it was then. But it wasn't too long ago to be honest.

You probably notice some of the similarities in philosophy between YouView and Apple iOS, in that both of them adopt some fairly regimented attitudes to keeping it simple and consistent, and you safe.

So while both prevent you from shooting yourself in the foot, Android lets you machine-gun off all your toes, either if you so desire (their target audience) or because you don’t know what the hell you are doing (everybody else).

YouView, and iOS, are aimed at that ‘everybody else’. And there may be something in that, except for the Linux mavens who don’t need or want to be nannied, of which I would guess you are one  :p

@Roy pretty much spot on. I like the simplicity of youview but in regards to my phone, tablet and laptop I like to be left alone without the nannying.
